Character doesn't go through with suicide because "mom would be sad"

I will be the first to admit that this anime hits close to home at times, but the way it handles some of the issues at the core of its premise is shallow at best and dangerous at worst

Also the whole mmorpg arc and pyramid scheme arc were pointless and the show would be much better without them

yeah, pretty much
on top of that, it wasn't particularly well made in any aspect other than soundtrack (which had some of its tracks repeated ad nauseum anyway) and the only reasons I can think of for why people like it is some misguided attempt to show that they care about Hikis or something

*reason

Well that's about the only reason I don't kill myself and one of the few reasons I leave my house. I have to go grocery shopping today and I'm really dreading that.

other NEETs are always bitching about this show not relating to THEIR particular NEET experience but i found it super relatable since my parents cut off my money and i was forced to get a job at a grocery store to continue living on my own

Problem is a lot of neets couldn't simply get a job, or they would crash and burn within a month, because unlike what some people seem to think neets are not just too lazy to get one.

If it was just supposed to be a quirky romantic comedy with some dark undertones about a relatioship between two seriously disfunctional young adults that would have been fine, but I got the feeling that it was aiming for something more, and I feel like it done goofed, and I doubt a psychiatrist would recommend to takle these issues in such a way.
I like it fine and I actually relate quite a bit, but I still have mixed feelings about it.

>character doesn't go through with suicide because "mom would be sad"
this is literally why i didn't kill myself bro

people like because it's a masterpiece with gorgeous art, deep mature plot and unique theme. there is no other anime similiar to welcome to nhk.

welcome to nhk is a kino and not your typical genre anime.

None of those things are true

>gorgeous art
Gotta call bullshit on that one chief. It is of very inconsistent quality, and pretty cheap overall.
>deep mature plot
Again as addressed it arguably takles its themes in a shallow way
>there is no anime similar to it
Tatamy galaxy delved into similar themes in a much more tasteful and arguably effective way

All it did was reveal to you what a useless cunt you are. It's not because of your interest in otaku culture, but because you refuse to change for the better while wallowing in self-pity.

You're never going to fix your situation and a lonely death is in store for people like you.

If anything it was way too uplifting

I'm sorry to say this dude, but i think he got you on the hook.

^^^^ fuckin' THIS

the world cant stomach weaklings like you, this is a world where only the strongest survive. desu i can't wait for WW3 to wipe you useless niggers off this planet

Guess I was gullible, but I've seen worse stuff being defended earnestly on this board

>character stops being a shut-in recluse with crippling social anxiety because "lol you gotta eat someway"
I mean, I also want to kill myself daily for being a disgusting being
But I find it hard to care about social anxiety when I work for food, we are all equally ugly here on SA so I guess it helps somehow

ah yes, the great insight all of us have heard at least a dozen times

Says the Yea Forumsnon without any hint of self awareness

Yeah, you can't be sure nowadays

You are fool if you believe a nuke will be shot before year 3000
We live in times where civils fight each other, not nations or politicians

The MMO arc was extremely relevant. Think of it this way, the MC became a NEET by just watching TV all day. MMO's were a step worse in terms of how addicting they can be, and you don't need to wait for a specific time to play them.

>character stops being a shut-in recluse with crippling social anxiety because "lol you gotta eat someway"
This was one of the best messages of the show though. If you're a neet, it's because some retard is letting you wallow in your disease.

I liked it a lot. I have never been a shut in however. Would have maybe been more believable if the main character wasn't basically attractive and just happened to have some broken teenage girl obsessed with him.

I thought the MMO and pyramid arc were cool. I liked that the series explored different shit that attracts losers, loners and desperate people.

I think the anime is perfect but the manga is flawed

I don't like the fact that the mc does drugs, actual neets don't do drugs because you have to go outside to get them

That's the difference between neets and disgusting druggie hippies

>because "lol you gotta eat someway"

You're an idiot if that was the message being conveyed to you. It was about enabling behaviour. A parent or sibling who put up with and so reinforced the hikkis bad habits - letting them wallow in their decrepid existence because they know they will be provided for. A monthly cheque or bank transfer to cover rent so you don't need to work, food being delivered to your bedroom door so you don't have to go outside etc. They do nothing to advance the cause of rehabilitating the NEET-hikki mindset and get them out of the rut they are in.

Perhaps, but it just takes a couple of episodes and then he's completely out of it and everything resumes like nothing ever happened.
Not to mention that this wacky scenario took place right after he nearly killed himself. You'd think going through such an experience would bear some lasting consequences but nope.
Maybe I would have enjoyed them more if they happened at different times in the narrative. As they are they feel like pointless diversions that do not affect the protagonist in the slightest.
Exploring different shit should not come at the expense of the pacing, and for me that was definitely the case since I was just waiting for them to end and go back to something that actually mattered.

I was a hard shut in for like 3 years and ironically the 2 other neet friends who I kept in contact with were both legit really handsome
It's the thing that surprised me the most

For some strange reason people who are reclusive care a lot about their appearance because the paranoia of being judged for the one time a month that you have to go out into the real world fucks with you
Even me for example would shampoo my hair and take a bath twice a day despite the fact that I'm not going anywhere
And the only thing that stopped me from looking like every other average day citizen were the deep bags under my eyes

>mc does drugs, actual neets don't do drugs because you have to go outside to get them
He orders them online speed reader

Where do you get drugs online?
Silkroad?
But the mc was shown as a computer retard

You realize the author himself is a hiki and struggles to escape it to this day, right? Kinda hard to write a proper conclusion when you're out of answers yourself

mom would be sad is an actual thing

Like I can honestly say if my mom died I would have no fucking anchor to this world

The social anxiety thing is so bullshit but that's anime for you

Getting a job doesn't mean you overcame your social anxiety. MC also conveniently chooses a job with minimal training/communication in a construction area as opposed to something that actually would've tested him like retail.

>"it doesn't resolve my problems, and I keep being a retarded NEET, so it's shit!"
You're fucking pathetic, lmao

I was talking about the videogame guy who becomes a delivery man and everything implies that he has become a well adjusted individual in the span of like a week.
The MC finding a job and maybe starting to lead a more normal life was incredibly rushed though, since we had to skip right to the ending. Something that could have been avoided by cutting the more meaningless arcs.

I know that's a thing, and something that anyone who at a certain point has had suicidal thought can relate to.
I'm just saying that it is dangerous to imply that suicidal people should anchor themselves to their beloved ones instead of trying to create meaning for their lives.
Again, I'm no psychiatrist or anything, but this can't be a helpful advice.

>well adjusted individual
He was a tubby nerd who started riding a bicycle for money. I don't think he's living the dream just yet

>character stops being a shut-in recluse with crippling social anxiety because "lol you gotta eat someway"
There's a hierarchy of needs user, and wanting to eat is above not wanting to go outside. I doubt that there are neets in third world countries, where the parents can't just feed a person who does nothing all day

I assumed so by the way it was framed and the things the patron said about him.
Of course he's not going to start a family any day soon, but just a few days prior he was a complete husk of a human being who would shrivel down in fear as soon as he had concact with another human being, who was able to confront other people only through videogame chats, and who almost let himself die of starvation.
I'm not saying it's impossible to get out of such a condition, but it sure is takled in a very light and almost disinterested way. Makes me wonder why we even needed that character.

He killed Polnareff's sister!

>>character doesn't go through with suicide because "mom would be sad"
Is this really so weird?

Fuck I just noticed!
Ok this just went from a 2/5 to a 1/5

You guys think Misaki wouldn't just ditch Satou after she got a bit older with some more life experience?

I'm seriously hoping everyone is well aware of that and that their takeaway from the series is not
>tfw no Misaki gf

>>character doesn't go through with suicide because "mom would be sad"

That's exactly what stopped my suicide.
