Is this supposed to be the final battle of the arc? I feel like it came out of nowhere right in the middle of everything else. We haven't even seen what Licht, Nozel, Yami, Rades, Valtos, Gueldre and Revchi are doing and we also don't know where Charla and the wisdom apostle are. There's also a bunch of fights that we haven't seen the conclusions of yet. I get that Tabata might be looking to finish the arc since it's been such a long one but things still feel incomplete to me.

I don't think it works like that. Now that we know the demon was responsible for resurrecting the elves we can also assume the curse that makes the elves hate humans and causes them to go apeshit when losing is also the work of the demon. And since placing the final stone was a trap it means the elves don't know how to get rid of the curse. The only way to do so, which is to use Asta's sword, also removes the reincarnation spell, meaning the elf in question will go back to being dead. So the elves are faced with a choice between going berserk or dying. At best the ones with brand new bodies might survive and maybe Rhya and Ronne as well.

The demon saying "die" is probably going to be the climax of the fight. The demon did say he loves to play with humans and elves. Furthermore, he's smiling in the last page. While he's surprised by Asta's and Yuno's tenacity, he's not intimidated by them as all their efforts only resulted in the sword attack being counter.
He can easily take out Asta and Yuno, but he won't because he'd rather play with them. I can see this fight going two ways.

The chapter 22 panel actually seems somewhat contradictory to me, since that text appeared when the grimoire absorbed Licht's 2nd sword. Anti-magic is demonic in nature, but Licht's sword should not be, unless the elves and demons share a common language which is different from whatever they speak in Clover.

The sword Asta got was already blackened though, didn't the swords become white when Licht grabbed them?

I'd argue that as a 5th leaf grimoire, it's already been changed so that any swords returned to it become demon magic or anti magic in this case. Had it been before, it might have been different or normal symbols?

What exactly is the relationship between the elves and the demons? Patri used demon magic to resurrect the Third Eye, Vetto combined demon magic with his own and Fana talked about the demons enhancing the elves' magic or something, all of which implies some sort of cooperation or perhaps even worship. However, Licht's swords have names like demon-slayer and demon-destroyer, which suggests that they considered the demons their enemies, which is also supported by the demon mentioning how Licht opposed him in the past. It doesn't really make sense to me.

Unnecessary. The only reason the powerlevels have risen is because all of Clover's captains are involved in the fight so the enemies have to be strong as well. It's highly unlikely that all the captains are going to travel with Asta to Diamond or Heart so the enemies there just have to be Bull level instead of captain level. Remember that Asta needed help from 2 or 3 of his buddies against both Luck and Droite, didn't even manage to get close to Rila even though the fight was 2v1 and now is only doing okay against the demon because Yuno's powers complement Asta's and they have flawless teamwork. 1v1 even Mars and Ladros level enemies are still a threat to Asta, not to mention the rest of the gang. Diamond's generals are going to be weaker than the captains and the elf apostles.

I'm guessing Tabata had to provide Pierrot with some sort of a summary regarding whatever arcs are going to happen after the elf arc and approximately how long they're going to be so that they know what they're doing now that the anime is about to enter the same arc that the manga is in. Either that or there's going to be a filler arc after the elves.

There has to be a decent amount of breathing room between the manga and the anime in order for the studio to be able to figure out the pacing, the release schedule for the BDs and also to account for manga breaks or production issues. That's why you occasionally see the directors tweeting about things weeks or months in advance. A few weeks ago someone mentioned how Pierrot had already listed the contents of something like 3 upcoming BD-boxes, which means Pierrot is planning things at least 30 episodes ahead. With a pacing of between 1.5-2 chapters per episode that's 45-60 chapters. For comparison the anime is currently about 80 chapters behind, so they're already going to be out of their comfort zone in a matter of months. Your calculations are off by at least a year or two.

Im catching up with BC right now and finished the tournament arc. Was someone else disappointed that Zora who was introduced as a rebel with a deep grudge against nobels, in the end joined the system he hated so much?

The anime has covered 115 chapters in 74 episodes. Add one more and multiply by two and that's roughly 235 chapters. This arc has already lasted over 50 chapters and you think there's more than 40 chapters to go? And that's not even taking into account the fact that Pierrot went out of their way to stretch the short ~10 episode arcs to fit them into their BD box-sets and that the elf arc is very fight heavy which is both faster and more expensive to animate. Based on the Witches' Forest being 28 chapters in 15 episodes(which also included some LN stuff):
>10 episodes for the royal knights (112-132)
>12 for the base raid (133-157)
>12 for all the stuff up until the Bulls arrive at the capital (157-181 or 182)
>9-12 for the Apostles and whatever the demon is going to do (181/182 - 205 or so if the pattern holds)
And the arc will either end there if most of the elf fights get interrupted or, the more likely option, there's going to be another 20 chapters or 10 episodes spent on all of them as well as Yami, Rades, Gueldre, etc. So the elf arc would end somewhere between episodes 115-130, at which point the manga would be somewhere between chapters 240-260 which is 20-35 chapters ahead of the anime. The issue is that filler arcs in long running shounen anime tend to be less popular than canon arcs, so Pierrot may not be too enthusiastic about going on long tangents like that. It's what originally killed the Bleach anime even though the manga at the time was selling around twice that of BC's current numbers, although admittedly the market in 2012 might have been a bit different. In a way this might be supported by the fact that they're still animating Boruto even though it's mostly filler, but then again it's the sequel to one of the most popular manga series ever so it's a bit of a special case.

Now, in this most recent chapter, it seems that devil is reacting to this devil and pumping more power to Asta to fuck him up. Dunno if he's just jealous or if it's a natural reaction to being near another devil, but the form clearly went up another step this chapter.

I don't recall any shounen where the protagonist has an evil power and just keeps it tied down the whole series.

The reason people say those series peaked at those points is because they did (or at least many people think they did). It's not very surprising that a long series would have that one arc that many people consider their favorite, which makes the other arcs seem less interesting in comparison. The elf reveal was very cool and there's been a lot of interesting stuff being revealed and some long-awaited development for characters like Noelle, so it wouldn't surprise me if people end up considering this arc their favorite once it's done. I can't imagine the Diamond arc living up to this arc, but I guess we'll see.

Okay, I'll admit it makes more sense that the devil is in the grimoire rather than the sword itself. But the whole idea of it still remains. The demon started by one-shotting Rhya and then catching Patri off-guard and casually blocking Yuno's attack. Now Asta and Yuno are already figuring out how to counter the word magic and even managed to land a hit on the demon while only taking minor damage themselves. It's not looking too bad for them so far. Of course the demon could power up somehow but considering that Patri can't even touch him I think that would lead to absolutely ridiculous powercreep.

Patri is under total despair right now. Cut him some slack. Maybe word magic only works if the recipient believes in it.

Asta is just drawing the power into the vacuum that is his manaless body and the devil is probably letting him because either it's some sort of submission thing being bound to the grimoire or, more likely, the devil doesn't want Asta to die before he can take his body.

The full details of how Asta's devil works aren't clear yet, but he's certainly the one that makes anti-magic and that's why Asta just got stronger during this fight when his devil reacted to Word Devil

I just realized that the elves/humans turning evil is a reference to the 666 mark that represents both humans and the beast.
It might be that the demons are beings who got corrupted or despaired since demons are defined as corrupted spirits, this can mean that devils are not necessarily evil since devils are fallen angels or jinn.
Not many people use these distinctions though which is why everything is classified as a demon and devils are just one being, satan which clearly isn't the case here.
The ram horns on asta also fit the 7 trumpets which are actually ram horns that the supposed astaroth devil in asta
has.
Bulls are a sarcificial animal in most myths and rleigions so it weird that it was chosen for the main character unless the black bulls will be sacrificiced in some politic move or tabata goes the hinduism route.
There's also a minotaur which has a bull head and lives in a dungeon which could an arc and powerup for asta, maybe even some godly trails like hercules had.

I'm pretty sure the Diamond Kingdom got more quirky magic that can be on par or greater than the captains. The only thing that can defeat them is the lack of experience against the people of the same powers as theirs or Asta.

To be fair, Gintama's author admits and regularly jokes that he makes the story up as he goes and not to expect anything deep from him. He's done entire episodes just wasting time saying he doesn't have any story planned, like the one where they're all under the Kot.

Yeah, just like how Gueldre countered everyone with his permeation magic. Took the captains only a few seconds to figure out that they could still attack him by flinging non-magical objects at him. Ladros is a complete pussy too if you get past his absorption. He almost started crying when Asta managed to stab him with the tip of his sword and barely managed to pull it out. He would lose to Yami, Mereoleona, Nozel, Jack, Charlotte, possibly Rill and most likely Fuego as well since it was stated that he had trouble absorbing spirit level magic. Dorothy might lose depending on whether she can transport Ladros into her world at all. William and Kaiser are probably the only captains he could defeat, at least based on what little we've seen of them so far.

Licht wasn't possessed by either the demon that caused him to despair or the thing that appeared in Licht/Asta's grimoire. The despair either summoned the giant demon or turned Licht into it, which left Licht's body behind. So I suppose Patri's soul will turn into another giant demon for Fuego to defeat while William gets his body back. He'd better not turn before he gets to interact with Rades, Valtos and Yami a little bit though.

A lot of people are saying that now that the demon has appeared the elves are no longer relevant as bad guys, but I don't think that's true. We didn't get meaningful conclusions to any of the Apostle fights except for maybe Rila's, we don't know what Nozel and Yami are doing in the Shadow Palace, we haven't seen what became of Gueldre&Revchi's stealth adventure and we also haven't seen Rades confronting Patri yet and whether the madman actually dug up Julius' corpse or not. In addition to that there's the last remaining Apostle who is a complete mystery so far and also Charla who disappeared after fighting Yami which was quite a while ago. I think we'll reach some sort of a halfway point in the demon fight and then go back to the elves to wrap up everything related to them.

So, seems like way back when this all went down, Wevil was trying to be brought into the human world in flesh, but Licht and first Magic Emperor got in the way. Not sure if Amvil even was around at this point. Then the huge elf erradication shit happened, though I don't know if we've seen whether that was done by Wevil or Amvil, and while Patri was fucking dying Wevil saw him and was like "Yeh, okay, that one".
Wevil resurrected Patri into a body like Licht's and gave him the 4 leaf grimoire somehow. From there, everything Patri did was actually Wevil's plan and he just twisted Patri's mind. Now he's corrupting Patri and seems like he's going to take his body and grimoire or something like that?

Meanwhile, Licht's grimoire somehow wound up wiht Amvil in it. And the demon that the first Magic Emperor defeated may or may not be another devil, but presumably it is since Amvil and Wevil look nothing like the depictions of that demon.

Not only would it be creatively bankrupt to have two invasions back to back, but Diamond was already established as an arc about Mars attempting to change the kingdom from within back when Asta promised to go help him if he's ever in trouble. Hell, it's debatable whether Diamond even has the forces to seriously challenge Clover considering how poorly they've performed so far. Chances are they don't even know what's going on since Clover has some kind of counter-intelligence going on based on Golden Dawn busting Spade spies.

Diamond is going to be about Asta receiving some kind of a message from Mars where he asks for help, so Asta takes the Bulls to Diamond in their brand new mobile base. The focus is going to be on Mars' coup, with the Bulls having to lay low while they free Mars' allies from prison, sabotage Morris' research facilities and sneak into the castle at night to gather information. The end of the arc will then culminate in a civil war during which we learn Morris was trying to use the magic stones to enhance Diamond's knights and grimoires so that a demon that he's working with would be able to create more despair grimoires. This ties the arc into the larger conflict with the demons while giving the kingdom itself the focus it deserves and without being too similar to the elf invasion.
