The Slime LN deviates a lot from the WN version. It was even implied that it might have a different "final boss" this time around. The problem is that English TL is far behind because no one bothered TLing the LN version and was licensed fairly late - and by YewPress on top of that.
Also it seems to go rather slow with a lot of additional content, as pic related shows that the LN is only now reaching the "Pseudo Dragon Upgrade" arc at LN vol. 14... meanwhile JewPress will only release LN vol. 5 in late April, so the nips are just simply further in the story and the manga ended up becoming a sensational adaptation (perhaps most successful manga adaptation of an LN of the decade).

Now everyone, literally everyone, is going to shit on this title even at its best, saying that it's generic and derivative and power fantasy.
And that's if the adaptation is somehow PERFECT. If it gets any kind of QUALITY, the shitposting is going to be intolerable.

Personally, I think Slime is better than MT and many people seem to be wearing "nostalgia glasses" for MT because it was the "first" syousetsu isekai WN that was being translated and the first to being translated to completion as well (finished a month before Shieldhero WN TL was complete). That's just my opinion though and I do give credit for MT being an early worm in terms of going "all the way" with the harem concept, i.e. having a True Harem. Unfortunately it fizzeled out in the later parts of the story and had an ending that IMO was rather disappointing.

But the numbers speak for themselves. Mushoku Tensei only sold measely 7k+ copies per volume with its 19th volume, while Slime LN before the anime sold around 40k-60k before the anime, while after the anime boost, Slime even reached the 70k range with its 13th volume (about 10x the amount of MT). And as if that wasn't enough, the Slime manga is actually even more commercially successful than its LN counterpart unlike pretty much every other LN adaptation.

I think it's inevitable that with something with such a low barrier to entry like the self-published isekai would have later titles more successful and better written. MT is historically significant, but if you wanted to trigger modern audiences, something like Re:Monster or Shield Hero have the gimmicks to distinguish themselves.
It's the opposite of the VN scene where something like Muv-Luv Alternative has only been watered down by age's own spinoffs. Nobody had the financial self-sacrifice or autism required to meet that level of production value, so it's still as good as it was when it came out in 2006.

Sorry, anime does not have seasons. They have series. A series is a single run of the anime from beginning to end. Usually, when a series ends a second series takes its place. Think Dragonball, Dragonball Z, or Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny.
Anime series used to be 26 episode standard. Saying it's 2 cour when I know the anime was 26 episodes made me think that it was renewed for a second series.

I wonder how far exactly into it it will go, this particular WN is designed for a long-term story and would feel incomplete without the entire thing being adapted. Not to mention, a good amount of the character of Rudy is built up and hinges upon his inner monologue, I'm kind of worried about them either toning down his inner monologue and thoughts or removing them entirely, that seems to be a common attribute of adapted WN/LN/VN.

Basically Rudeus just became the support character of Orsted in his "little" conflict with Hitogami, but Rudeus', and that one girl's whose name I forgot, involvement in the matter never got truly clarified, only the stuff AFTER the reincarnation/transmigration did.

The fact MT ended when it did is one of its strong points in my opinion. A lot of WNs fall into a pit of meaningless meandering and adventures without creating any proper arcs or development for their characters. MT is Rudeus's story and it ended when Rudeus's story ends. While he created a world with myriads of characters with their own stories, the focus was always Rudy in the end. It's also why a lot of people say MT falls flat with the wives after a point, but I will always respect MT for its ending. Rudy's goal was not to beat some overarching evil, change the world, or build a harem, though he was quite involved in such actions. It was to not live life as a failure as he did before. The ending represented that fact very well.

End it when rudeus being killed by orsted.

That means no story after that point, since everything after would be an endless recursion of time.

Honestly I'm scratching my head here. It's probably way too late for MT to be adapted, there has been a shitload of anime isekai already. Even Re:Zero did the hetare protagonist like years ago.
It also takes a long time to get good, and I don't see the adaptation going in for the long haul since the story ends with a wet fart (I know a lot of fans loved the ending but I felt like it wasted a lot of my time).

I thought the journey arc was pretty good. There's enough going on there to keep people entertained.
The problem is that, realistically, the anime will be at most 2 cours, and end right before the ED timeskip. Which is a weird place to end a story, and anime studios are basically never sure about whether or not they're going to make a Season 2 until the last minute.
Ending a "coming of age"-type story right in the middle, not to mention while Rudy's mother is still missing, would just leave more questions than answers.

The really odd thing here is adapting series like Hachinan and Kenja no Mago. MT still has some popularity on narou and just in general it also gots Roxy manga spinoff so maybe you could squeeze something out of it since the LNs are still being published as well.

Admittedly he doesn't really have that much spells at hand, since his favorites, Rock Bullet, Quagmire and Electric are just that useful allaround.
The Laplace factor just game him a big mana tank, his fine tune control over magic was something he developed on his own due to how kids are supposedly have better sensitivity of their body's mana flow, something that he and Roxy will later implement in Ranoa's magic school.

And the only way a magician can stand up to the sword is by creating a fucking power armor. Laplace was a magician and they all had to gang up on him to defeat him. How did he do it? If the trend of higher rank - > longer casting time - > wider area of effect is true of god tier magic as well, then god spells are useless in a 1 vs many fights.

If that ever gets one, I expect significant disappointment, from both using the LN instead of manga designs and from trying to force too many volumes of content into too few episodes.

The LN probably aren't doing as bad as Oricon suggests.

The series has 2.1 million copies in print. Assuming the manga (10 volumes) accounts for half, that comes out to about 50k print runs per LN (20 volumes).

The LN also retails for around twice as much as more popular bunkobon (ie Index).

You got it backwards. It's the other modern Isekai series that tried to imitate this one since its inception.
