It felt really forced to me, like some exec decided there needed to be more epic twists like Madoka. I think it would've been enough of a surprise that Banana was actually the strongest, there wasn't any need to make her a crazy villain. It's also really weird that nobody apparently cared that she trapped them all in a time loop for however many years. RE:CREATE is best revue though.
