HF wasn't a TV series, it was a route in a VN. It's just I kinda got a feeling in several parts where there were distinct starting and stopping points, where if this was a TV series, you'd have credits rolling between.

Copypasting my own post on another thread:
Overall enjoyed it a lot, more than I thought I would, but still have some major criticisms for stuff left out that's important for characterisation/build up.
Illya scenes being cut out, yes, it's Sakura's route but the ending of the route (you know they're going True End) was easily one of the most powerful scenes in the VN and I don't see it hitting anywhere near as hard if they neglect building up the Shirou/Illya sibling bond (both die lorelai and big park choice scene were cut to almost insignificance) which also links to the theme of the route of doing things for the people you love rather than for everybody.
Knife scene. Was done well - up to the point Shirou just walked away without showing Sakura was awake and her crying that she's destroying Shirou. Again, one of my favourite scenes in the VN and vital for Sakura's characterisation and showing that she's aware of what she's doing to him and how Shirou is aware too but doesn't care.
Those are the two big ones, but also lack of scenes showing Shirou dealing with his arm to give it some weight as in the VN it feels like a major thing and (continuing into the third film) shows how much of himself he's sacrificing for Sakura, and also a lack of Shirou/Kotomine interaction because everyone knows that's the best relationship in this route.
Yes, they only have so much time, but other scenes could easily have been cut (Sakura talking to Taiga comes to mind as meh filler).
Also pacing was weird in the middle to last third, but idk if that's just as a sourcefag.

Yeah, that's one of the important things about these adaptations. Filling in narrative gaps since the VN is mostly Shurou's first-person pov.
The only "filler" that let me down was not seeing Gil get completely consumed. Instead we just cut to shadows sperging out all over Shinto.

I've harped about it a few times, but I'm just not a fan of Yuki Kajiura's scores for these movies. I really wish they brought back Hideyuki Fukasawa.

Fukasawa's score for UBW was lovely. I've been a fan of him ever since I heard the music to Mahoyo. UBW's score had original music for almost every scene, with each character getting themes and variations of them, while also featuring a lot of VN music. Even Kajiura's theme from Fate/Zero was reprised. It's about what I'd consider the top in terms of composing music for an adaptation. Respect what came before it, while giving your all to add something new.

Kajiura's music for HF feels phoned in. She discards every identity Fukasawa established in UBW, while introducing only a handful of themes. There's no VN music, even two films in, and there's just this notion to me that she doesn't particularly care. Like in the DIe Lorelei scene, she had underscore playing right as Illya was (silently) singing, but she couldn't have featured the melody of the song? It's literally what the character is articulating.

I just think it's a shame.

Do most theaters do reserved seating? For the 1st movie's showing, and every other movie I've been to, it was just first come first serve, though it is a different theater that's showing it this time around.

Fukasawa's worked with Nasu directly before anything with Ufotable. He was the lead composer for Mahoyo, which has the best soundtrack out of any of his VN's. It's absolutely beautiful.

The only time my crowd really laughed was the scene when Shirou and Sakura are acting like husband/wife at breakfast only for the screen to reveal Rider sitting across from them. There was a chuckle when Shinji got killed, and an "aw" during the sex scene. No laughing when Archer threw Shirou on the ground, no laughing when Shirou gave Rider the fork and knife, no giggling when Rin gets all blushy with Sakura etc

HF already veers the closest to being like some cheesy hentai as it is, and actually seeing some of the stuff animated in it is funny. Just got back from seeing it. Was a good movie on par with the first. I wouldn't say it was better like some reviews have, but it was at minimum only barely worse. They essentially took the worst part of the VN and made it enjoyable. The action scenes weren't super impressive beyond the visuals and the archer fight, but the imagery they used during Sakura's dream, Shirou slightly removing the seal, and at the end was amazing.

I'm disappointed that Shirou and Ilya and Kirei and Gilgamesh didn't have more scenes to expand upon them, and the music wasn't as memorable, but they really did a good job with everything else. I would love to see it again.

My theater is pretty packed. But my theater fucked up and showed the english dub movie part I and a lot of people walked out to complain. Fifteen minutes later they finally aired part II.

Overall pretty good, they cut down the cooking scenes and the part where Sakura goes into a fairy-tale land and which transitions later into her stomping Gil was well done and a nice twist to that scene.

And Heracles going through his Nine Lives was neato.

Broly wasn't a special event, and the mainstream interest was widespread enough for it to actually decent business compared to all the other movies playing alongside it (at least the first week). It's up to the distributors to decide. GKids for example used to show everything on the indie/specialty circuit, meaning stuff would only play in art theatres in a handful of cities. The last couple years they've done the Fathom Events thing two or three showings during a given week.

It's still a compromise because I guess they're not confident enough these movies would make enough money to justify how much it costs to put them in every megaplex for a month. There's probably more that goes into it, but since you asked.

tl;dr - to get more showtimes an anime movie would have to have serious normie appeal to compete with whatever marvel movie is next door every night of the week

The forest scene is only infamous because of the anime version, where most of it was cut except for the dragon which looked like it was done by a drunk intern pulling an all nighter.
Rin's scene is practically the same in both versions. Feels thoroughly awkward and unromantic.
HF is the only route where the RN version is obviously worse.
