The strongest part of HxH is the diverse cast of characters that reside in its world. These characters can perfectly complement each other, or at other times perfectly contrast each other. The essence of life itself has been breathed into each and every individual as if they are real people that could inhabit the tangible world. Each character has their own unique personality and perception of the world around them, which contributes to their personal philosophy, ultimately deciding the role they assume within the world.
Moral ambiguity is a huge part of the world of HxH. There is no good vs. evil within the narrative. There are only subjective goods versus subjective evils. You will find yourself cheering for Gon wholeheartedly at the beginning, perceiving him as the quintessence of good, whereas in reality, he is a selfish young boy who is completely ignorant to the world around him. Instead of adapting to the harsh world around him like the other members of the cast, he shrouds himself in his own innocence and sanguine nature. The collapse of this results in the climax of a phenomenal coming of age story, and possibly the greatest scene in anime history.
Despite Gon receiving incredibly character development and depth, I could say the same for every member of the main cast. Five characters in particular (Meruem, Hisoka, Chrollo, Kurapika, Killua) receive even more insight into their characters than the protagonist and are arguably more interesting. Despite each character having a defined personality, the motives and philosophies of each character are dynamic rather than stagnant. Round characters compose the world of HxH, with very few flat individuals in sight.

Another thing people also do a lot is to let their impressions on the fanbase influence their opinion of the work itself.
Bar Nanika and Kite coming back, I have no complaints about HxH. Release schedule has no correlation to a manga's quality, nor it's fanbase on Yea Forums. The art is also pretty spetacular: I agree it's inconsistent, but doesn't that add a nice charm of experimentation to the whole thing? I'm almost done with YuYu Hakusho. I can see where Togashi got inspiration from certain characters to create other characters, and it seems like he has always liked the idea of young children being really fucking powerful (the guy that stole techniques, yo yo kid, Sensui's subordinate). I have some nitpicks, but overall in these last few episodes, especially Hiei's flashbacks with the Ice Maidens, some of them have at least been addressed. Still, I think Togashi kinda wrote himself into a corner with Kaito; that dude's ability is beyond fucking broken.

The only good arc was York New City. Actually interesting characters; not a bunch of bullshit muh king trash that went on well longer than it needed. Greed Island arc was shit, the author even said he just wanted to do it because he thought a card game would be fun, but realized it's too complicated and tried to rush through it. The gay shit got way to heavy handed with just about everyone. Also over 60% of all female characters ever shown have been killed, compered to 23% of all male characters ever shown. Gon's quest to meet his dad is too simplistic. There's nothing that indicates why Gon would even care to meet him other than blood ties, as his father was never around to care for or teach him anything. This highly goes against what Gon has believed with friendship being more important. Gon's faggy death glare at cat slut wasn't badass or scary, no idea why everyone hypes it up as to how awesome his character is. It's just a contrast to his normal happy fag persona lets all be friends bullshit. Him going this far over Kite as well is retarded. All the guy did was tell them about bugs, and he knew Gons dad. I doubt Gon would even act that autistic if Leorio or Kurapika were killed. The series isn't complete trash, but holy fuck the hype it gets makes it's flaws even more glaring.

Nice buzz words; HXH is shounenshit. It's only subversion of expectations is that I expected it to be the masterpiece people hyped it up as. Instead it's a mess of dead end storylines with no idea where it's focus should be, and becomes fatigued with it's own narrative; dragging towards each anticlimax after anticlimax.

It created a sense of sacrifice, showed meruem's true capacity, set up for a proper ending to the arc, set up the election arc, and gave a reason for Beyond's introduction and for the Hunter associations sudden involvement in the dark continent expedition

You learn all of this in the first arc of the manga and twenty years later that's still as deep as his character goes. First off netero wouldn't value the admiration of an insect. Second Netero went heroshima and stopped his own heart in a last ditch play. How is that a deserving death? Netero was never content or happy with the way that fight played out. He even voiced regret that he had to come to his trumpcard.

It's a false sacrifice that wasn't necessary. It's like in TTGL when everyone started to go Kamikaze for no real reason as it did nothing to the enemy, and Simon pleaded them to not do that. Just because you feel something for someones sacrifice doesn't mean that the sacrifice was necessary. It's clear that they just didn't know how to end the arc and needed to ass pull a fucking nuke to kill off a big bad that wasn't needed in the first place. Ergo making the election arc also superfluous. The ant arc may have been saved if it were 30 episodes shorter than it is, maybe 40 if you cut out a lot of the jobber ant fights.

I don't know how many times we heard the same shit about the kings guards, or the kings power level, or having to find x, or the count down to the sorting, or people explaining their powers over and over and over again. I don't need reminded how Knuckles power works god damit!
