I read the manga way before anime anouncement, and, plainly - its shit. Its not well written or interesting to begin with.
The anime is outstanding, but exclusively through talented direction - the story is still shit. its ok to praise the show for good direction and choice of visuals - but its nowhere near 10/10 or even above 5.

It has little going for it besides shock value, and that wears off after the friend dies. It's like every other "psychological" anime, just a meandering mess where every single character is insane for no reason, but those exact people you think it scares off love it because "it shows how crazy anime is". But it wasn't even good at that with how little screentime they gave the aunt. Just the same boring monologue about sweet and bitter over and over again. Visual direction was outstanding but there's only so much that can do for the source material.
That's not the kind of OP you make if you don't want people challenging your opinion.
