Personally I found the Yen Press translations to have a really awkward prose so I haven't gotten far into the LN yet. I'm sure the anime skipped over a lot of details im a lot of people will tell you that the LN is better.

I would still recommend watching the anime even if the whole being X is handled a lot differently. Choreography and music was nice. Voice actor for the MC was delicious.

LNs are killing a while generation of Japanese writers, specially when it comes to erotica. I'm read better smut in fucking Fanfiction.net. Short, non-descriptive language doesn't work when you want to be lewd.

I think you're supposed to imagine more than with a normal novel. I've always seen LN writing style as kind of an outline. High concepts with little detail, so the reader's supposed to pause and fill in the blanks.

I just got a strange idea for a homebrew. Image a reverse-isekai, but with the "twist" that it happens in a similar fashion as in Isekai Tensei Soudouki, i.e. in this case someone from western parts of the modern earth gets "possessed" by three individuals who all are forced to share a body with the MC that has no idea why these three suddenly appeard "within" himself.
Then he soon realizes another big problem, because he is an avid reader of various eastern novels through the website "Novelupgrades", or short "nUP" (this is a work of fiction, all resemblences to actual names are coincidences~), so he has an omnious feeling, because he realized that the three are a generic nip isekai protag, generic chink cultivation protag and generic gook survival with video-game-like mechanics protag respectively.
This story is (or rather would be if someone wrote it) about the MC dealing with all this shit and escpcially dealing with the immense Japan-hate by the chink and the "moderate" hate for both others by the gook.
As a silverlining it turns out though that the MC somehow can learn each side's power systems - and since they are different from each other in nature and therefore don't seem to have any direct intereference with each other, so he can learn all three power systems at the same time.

honestly the better approach would be to go to RR forums/discord and ask them for criticism since it's the same crowd that actually reads stuff on RR, which gives you the opportunity to craft your style to that specific audience

Fodder is one of my favorites of the bunch. It hurt when I caught up to the latest chapter. I also feel bad that I basically gloss over the flashback sections because I want to get back to the goblins doing goblin things. I actually felt awful when First died like he did and Teeth had to be put down as a result.
I would recommend against engaging with the RR community in particular.

I really like Fodder too and I find the flashbacks interesting, though some of them were kind of confusing.
Reading it made me re-evaluate my own shit. I'm writing a story with an amoral criminal as MC too but mine feels way too Gary Stuish and cold compared to Scratch.

Synopsis:
Sayaka already won at life. She was pretty, not dumb and athletic; high-school was easy mode for her. She got Bs with little effort, made lots friends and even captured the heart of a boy or two. Her older brother was the exact opposite. A lazy neet that struggled to graduate from high-school, never left his room and spent every day reading and writing nerdy web novels for otaku. It would have been fine if his web novels were making money, but they barely got any views online. Sayaka found his work terrible, all his stories were trope-filled wish-fulfillment fantasies about bland, nondescript guys getting attractive women to fall for them. There was little plot and lots of almost-sex. Eventually, he actually manged to write something of moderate popularity. Not a big hit or anything of the sort, but good enough to get it published as a light novel. Sayaka shrugged, thinking that it was fine if his brother had found a way to make a living. Then she actually read it. The novel's main heroine was a "princess knight", cute and sexy like every light novel heroine; however, something about her felt genuine and familiar and Sayaka found herself surprised that she actually liked a character in his brother's stories. It was hard to not feel sorry for her as she ended up raped and slaved by the egocentric and, in Sayaka's opinion, downright evil anti-hero. Did she really deserve it just for being cold and distant with him? Well, whatever. All of these stories are like this, right? It's no big deal. Or so she thought until she happened to read certain paragraph. It was a brief yet lewd description's of the princess knight's legs. There was a mole right on her, in her brother's writing, "soft, fleshy inner thigh". She had a mole just like that! It hit her there that the princess knight was based on herself. In fact, she was even named Yakasa! Angry, Sayaka heads towards her brother's room to confront it about it. (cont.)

Yeah, it's not exactly organic but it lets people that want to know get their lore and the people that don't care can just skip it.

(cont.) Right as a she opens the door, the whole house explodes. A gas leak. 2 casualties, Sayaka and her brother, they died instantly. A tragic end to Sayaka's happy story. Or perhaps not. A maid wakes up immediately afterwards. Did she always have a maid? She is sleeping in a large, cozy bed in a luxurious bedroom completely unlike her own. It doesn't take too long for her to realize that she has become the Yakasa from her brother's novel and that if she doesn't do anything she is going to end up as that dumb, unlikable's hero sex slave.
