Supposedly it gets interesting in the next arcs and less edgy as well with Snow White actually being a cool protagonist. Seems a shame there's no S2 greenlit since the first season being an edgy battle royal mess is just a plain waste.
Speaking of wastes, La Pucelle really could've been better used as a character, ideally in a lighter-hearted series. At least there's stuff like OreHero instead.

Snow White went from being someone I couldn't care less about to one of my favorite characters in anime. The characters in general become so consistently good that's not as much of a waste when most die, and the deaths feel less arbitrary. I don't know about less edgy, if anything it gets more violent, but the conflicts are more natural instead of happening for shock value. The setting gets built upon massively and the battle royale concept is ditched after the second arc.
