How do you feel about Ranma 1/2 anime? Do you think it's an anime of the 80s or 90s?

I'm rewatching it right now and I felt like it lost steam halfways through. Its really charming at the start, but goes to shit once they start adding all the conclusive episodes that are more miss than hit, like the first 30 or so episodes were the peak of the series.
>How do you feel about Ranma 1/2 anime?
I feel I'd like to bone Nabiki real hard raw style.
I wonder how much would that cost
prob not cheap, but worth it
First few episodes are great, after that there is an occasional 1 or 2 good episodes every 10.
It went to shit because rumiko would rather introduce more and more characters than develop the ones we already had.
There was just no development, just standalone episodes.
Turned kuno and ryoga into an morons,
Introduced ukyo when we already had 3 girls for ranma at that point.
Every martial arts {insert any activity here} episodes were shit.
Completely take out the rivals for ranma and make them one note characters.
Reuse the same jokes (kuno grabs ranma, ranma kicks him into the sun).
Its like she was forced to write more and more episodes because it was popular at that time.
10/10
How about a mix of both? It's literally in the weird shifting phase, like a bunch of 90s bands that started in the 80s. I feel the animation and the fightings are above average for this kind of series, lots of cool stuf. The anime is too filler heavy, but there's some watchable ones in there. Anyway, I think it's a fun classic.
>like a bunch of 90s bands that started in the 80s
Umm, something like Nirvana, right?
Yep.
Sort of in between. That period where the 80's after-taste is still in effect, yet the 90's is getting ready to unleash its signature style.
As a child I always thought that Ranma was a newer anime than Sailor Moon or Dragon Ball Z because the animation and colors looked better.
Both
CoCo and Ribbon, two of the biggest 80s idol groups, sang the OPs and EDs, giving it a real 80s Japan feel to it. The color palette is also definitely 80s
But Viz released the English dub over several years in the mid 90s, and it was pretty much became every English speaker's first exposure to anime. So it also has a sense of 90s nostalgia for me as well
>The color palette is also definitely 80s
Really? OVAs felt more like 80s. The TV series had bright colors, it looked like mid or late 90s anime.
Good until happosai becomes a part of every episode.
Funny you say that -- the OVAs were actually produced from 1993-1996, which was just after the TV anime ended. But that's interesting - I guess everybody experiences it differently.
Viz chose to dub the OVAs first, I think to test the market out, or secure funding. Thats probably why most English audiences think the OVAs were created first.
The anime scene was so much smaller and different back then.
"Defenders of the True Fiance webring"
I also remember a contest where you could win a lunch date with both Venus Terzo (girl-Ranma) and Myriam Sirois (Akane).
Anyone scope out fan fiction back in the 1990s?
It was 90% Ranma.
What's with all the Ranma 1/2 threads lately?
I'm intrigued. I only got into fanfic and zines recently, but there are some brilliant ones. I expected it to be bad but there are some talented fans out there.
Where are the Nabiki's nipples?
In those days they made the animation and colors of the movies and OVAs darker than the series themselves, I guess to give them more seriousness.
The very best Ranma fanfiction I've ever read is ""Ranma 1/2: The Princess Bride", a Fusion by Josh Green
akasha.freeshell.org
It's written as an episode script, everyone stays in character 100%, and it is hilarious.
Another one I've enjoyed is "That's 1/2 My Goddess".

Neat.
>there's a world of literature out there lost to time that you'll never read
Thanks for sharing this user. How the hell did you even find the link for this- I tried to go back just the homepage but there's no navigation to other fanfics the author's written (if any).
Hearts of Ice.
Yeah, season 4 was pretty shit and I almost dropped it at that point during my most recent rewatch, but it does get better. Fifth and sixth seasons both have some solid material in there, and if you decide to watch the OVAs afterward, a few of them are pretty great.
