I'm not an expert on JJBA by any means, but I've watched the anime through this last 4/5 months, and I'm finally up to the airing episodes. For me, it probably goes:

I can't judge 5 yet as I haven't finished it yet, but I'm enjoying it so far. I love Mista, and I like Narancia's totally stupid looking stand. I enjoy the stand names a lot, even if they are a bit on the nose. King Crimson being the best example so far.

I think Joseph in P2 is the best Jojo, and Speedwagon in P1 is the best JoBro. I think P1 tells a really interesting, self contained story and I liked seeing the origins of Dio. It also has the best ED in Roundabout. P2 has Joseph, and the Gods are fucking fantastic, with Kars having the best death scene in any anime ever. I will admit, I feel P2 is a little forgettable, at least compared to the other parts.

P3 was where I thought I'd hate it, but I ended up liking it more than any other part. I liked the unique and interesing stands, and how, outside of The World, there wasn't really a power ranking, it was just unusual ways of approaching the enemy stands. D'Arby stands out as a really well thought out one. Plus, I think DIO in P3 is probably the most menacing villain in any anime I've ever seen. The tease every few episodes really kept me going.

P4 was okay. I liked how, for the most part, it was just normal guys doing normal things, but with stands. I think Killer Queen is my favourite stand design, even if its third ability was a little difficult to understand

Like I said, I'm still pretty new to Jojo, but that's how I feel so far!

Everybody has their most and least favourite parts, and we're in Yea Forums, where you don't say "I don't like this", you say "this is utter irredeemable shit".

I appreciate Jojo for what it was when it was released.
People hate part 1 or 2 for their cookie-cut characters, or hate part 3 for boring stands.
But in reality, if you read/watch them from start to end, you appreciate every part for what it represents.
In part 1, the conflict between Dio and Jonathan, the contrast between them, and the pure heartedness of Jojo.
In part 2, the cleverness of Joseph, the buildup of the relationship between him and Ceasar, interesting, unique villains, each with different, vivid character.
In part 3, the introduction of stands, the final conflict between Dio and Joestars, Polnareff, and some antagonists.
Etc etc
Each part, when it was made, was top-notch. Now, you might think part 1 is boring, but if you cast aside that bias, you'll realize they're all great for different reasons.

While I have my most and least liked parts, I appreciate that the contrast between each part and the next makes reading JoJo really refreshing.

I'd read a whole part of drama and comedy like Jonathan and Dio's childhoods and adulthood.

The point is not that JoJo is cool because it's whacky, it's what it does with the whacky concepts it has to create real intrigue, tension, character growth, etc. 8 and 4 are literally the best parts but let's take part 3 and see what actually makes it a great classic

You can look at the flaws in the story (and there are many) that counteract the pillars of what made Stardust Crusaders good, but they're still the foundation of the enjoyment nonetheless. Like, the story does have a lot of Stand fights, but it's all about what revolves around those fights, not just "woah whacky powers and fighting!".

Basically you have to always look at things in the way of, what are the foundations of this story, what are the pillars? "Bizarre" is not a pillar, and imo 4 and 8 have the pillars I value the most, the tension and intrigue is fucking sky high, as mystery is one of its main pillars.

Honestly I like the drama portions of Jojo more. That's initially why I disliked when it just turned into a series of stand battles with pieces of narrative intertwined. Give me some Dio being a bratty kid. Give me more of Gio navigating the underworld. Give me some Okuyasu trying out for the basketball team idk

I don't know if you mean memes specifically but I also feel like the comedy and relationships are often a strong pillar for JoJo, specifically parts 2 and 4. It's one of the things that makes JoJo special for me, that I'm literally grinning ear to ear every time I see Joseph and Shiiza square off or when Josuke comes up with a new way to make money.

I agree though that there's this portion of JoJo fans that are just fucking plebs.

Araki's autism of stopping the plot just to show/explain something he finds interesting to the reader is almost Tarantinesque
Like how he interrupted the fight with Otoishi to show how his guitar is made with huge details, Rai teaching how to make that dessert, and more.

I wonder what's his reasoning between stuff like that. Is he doing it intentionally to be quirky? Is he really trying to show some cool stuff for the readers? Is it filler?

I think Araki just reads things and wants to put that stuff in his manga. He stopped somewhat with doing the landmark explanations but has replaced those with little pieces of trivia.

I just finished reading Part 8. To be clear, the fight where Josuke is being chased by the "zombies" is meant to be a mirror to the Highway Star fight in Part 4, right? They even both feature a baby carriage, with the only difference being that in one Josuke saves the baby in a super cool manner and in the other one the baby fucking dies and infects him.

the main villain was revealed pretty early and was underwhelming.
there were few deaths and overall not very violent.
no real stakes for a high schooler like josuke, unlike gappy who literally has to deal with being born a few weeks ago, dealing with a dying mother, and simultaneously fighting rock niggers with only a psychotic family, and a suicidal girl backing him up.

jojolion has real tension and raises your curiosity to the max, something araki maybe couldn't pull off with part 4

Sometimes it is Tarantino-esque which I find very phony, but most times I think it's to add flavor to the story and create a sense of a real, living world that he's created- like yeah, Bruno and the gang really ARE in real-life Italy, Norisuke-san really does passionately run a gourmet fruit business and he's figured out how to create new lines of products with the conditions of the fruit, liking making parfaits, and so on. When it's better integrated you don't notice it, that's why it can seem phony like Tarantino when you do, but overall I still think it's a good feature of the series.

It's literally the best one along with 4. I can see if someone says "oh, I like 4 better" or "oh, I don't know, 8 isn't over yet and I really like the anime adaptation of 2 and 3 a lot", but for someone to HAVE read 8 and decided that it's below 7 and 2, that takes a special kind of pleb.

Let me tell you, 7 is a very good read down the middle when the art is great and the arcs are great, (volumes 9 to 18), but to say SBR, finished, with 24 volumes, is the best JoJo part, and better than 8, is simply fucking reddit incarnate.

Gappy is still genetically half Kira and more importantly needs something to emotionally ground him. He was super upset when he found out he has no history, so it makes sense for him to call her his mom

Took me a 2nd go through of part 4 to understand it is one of the best parts of JoJo. Part 1-2 were good, and kept me interested for sure. They are both pretty bad though compared to the other parts in all honesty. The only good things were the memes and making the foundation for better story telling in later arcs.

I see it more as he has Josefumi's tenderness, which allows him to be aloof and get along with people and be liked, and Kira's alpha sociopathy, which allows him to tell Norisuke, who kindly lets him live with his family, "listen bitch your grandkid is a little shit and imma fuck him up, now you wit me or nah?"

He is CHAD and to me the most interesting JoJo next to part 4 Josuke

I have. It's one of my favorite parts. One of the best Jojos, one of the best (the best imo) villain, and the stands go off the deep end in being bizarre, which some people hate but I love. It falters at times but so does every other Jojo part.

Part 6 and 7 have actual character development and plot. They're heartwrenching in a way jojo's hasnt been before. The villains are at their most powerful and worse, most relatable/righteous in their motivations. part 7 also starts having most of the stands no longer be punchghosts so you can more easily attribute the actions being done to the character and not the gimp suit robot standing next to them

Very intensely triggered I hear, but that was their fault for shipping Chad Gappy with Red Flag Red Wrist Yasuho to begin with. I actually enjoy when Araki gives people a sexual history to make them actually like real people and not weirdo fictional virgins- because if you live in real-life you probably realize Norisuke's eldest daughter is probably having casual sex with people she doesn't know for long, and even Yasuho has probably done some stuff with a bunch of guys that were willing to give her attention too- that's literally one of her defining traits that makes her interesting, albeit not desirable. Now if he had written more of this for the male characters it would be even better.

IMO if the fights at the middle of the part weren't as shitty part 6 would be an easy contender for the best part, it's one of araki's best works and the ending is incredible.
I have hopes that when part 6 gets animated davidpro will improve the shitty parts of the series and make it so the part finally gets the praise it deserves

I'm relatively new to JoJo. I started watching the 2012 series, I think, a month ago, and watched the entirety of it in less than two weeks. I loved it. I absolutely adored it, especially Battle Tendency, with the young, charismatic, and extremely funny, yet super badass at the same time Joseph. Generally, I don't like anime that much, but it made such an impression on me, I couldn't wait to watch Stardust Crusaders - the most iconic JoJo, the JoJo everyone knew, the JoJo that gave birth to all the autistic memes from years ago I didn't get because I didn't know what exactly JoJo was. Basically, the instant I got a chance to watch it in all of its uncensored glory, I jumped right in and didn't think twice.

Now that I'm finished with both of the seasons, I think I'm going to pass on watching Diamond is Unbreakable. Why? Because the introduction of the concept of Stands almost instantly turned JoJo for me from the most awesome action anime in the universe to the most mediocre, boring slog I had to get through.

"What are you talking about? Stands are basically what JoJo is about! How can you hate it?" some of you may think. Well, I can and I do. And allow me explain why.

When I watched Part 1 and Part 2 of JoJo, of which the first season of the anime consisted, I got a clear impression of what it was trying to be: an action series focused on battles, that starts out extremely over the top right off the bat, and manages to raise the bar higher and higher with every episode, by introducing more and more ludicrous concepts to the mix. What's so special about it? That despite being so over the top, it always remained perfectly logical.

Stardust Crusaders, on the other hand, introduced Stands - spiritual beings that basically did the fight for the characters, while all they did was standing and watching it unfold. The thing with Stands is, that due to them having an uncertain amount of superpowers that's never revealed at once, it often leads to characters pulling a convenient new power out of their asses whenever the situation requires it, or deus ex machina situations, that initially may seem like the "impossible to win situations solved by a clever plan" gimmick from Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency, but when you think deeper about it, there's almost never any logic behind it, and the whole reason it even worked was straight up magic and nothing else. Not once and not twice you're introduced to situations where the enemy clearly has an advantage, only to find out that another character's Stand (Hierophant Green most of the time) was already doing something to tip the scales in their favor. Whenever something like this is revealed, it appears more of an insult to the viewer than something awesome, even more when it straight up contradicts what was shown to you literally a minute earlier. Examples:

1. The Lovers fight, when the Stand flew into a little girl's ear. At first it appeared as if Jotaro had to either make a difficult moral choice as to whether kill the user and make the girl suffer unbearable pain, or to lose. But wait! Plot twist! Hierophant Green had its tentacle tied to The Lovers' leg all along and managed to pull it out of the girl's ear in time! You know what's the problem here? You're shown tons and tons of footage where you can clearly see there isn't anything tied to the Stand's leg.

2. The Wheel of Fortune fight. When Jotaro is set on fire you can see him as a whole, burning for good 30 seconds. But wait! Plot twist! Actually it was only Jotaro's coat, that suspiciously looked like Jotaro's whole body, that was burning, while Jotaro himself got unharmed because Star Platinum dug a tunnel in the ground, where Jotaro could hide. Silently. Even though every other time Star Platinum uses his fists, it sounds like a thousand nukes going off at the same time. Not to mention screaming "Ora! Ora! Ora! Ora!" at the top of his lungs. But nope, he lived through it without a scratch.

3. D'Arby the Player "fight". You can clearly only see Jotaro's hands on the controller. But wait! Plot Twist! Hermit Purple was on the controller as well! What? You couldn't see him? Fuck you, he was there!

Another thing is the pacing. Oh dear God, that pacing. The first season could be unfolded in probably five episodes, and the second one in eight to ten episodes. There was so much pointless fighting inbetween it's inconceivable! And why was there so much pointless fighting? Because literally everybody and their mother had to have a Stand...

Having an established villain for the protagonist to fight all the time is much better in case of JoJo because it leaves tons of room for character development. You begin to despise the villains more and like the protagonists more, while also seeing that neither of them is perfect. You begin to get attached to them and understand their reasoning. That makes the emotional scenes hit even harder. I nearly cried when Ceasar got killed in Battle Tendency because it was an awesome character and it was really sad to see him die. Stardust Crusaders on the other hand, had literally no character development because it focused on constant, but ultimately pointless, action instead. I couldn't give two shits about any of the characters in SC because they were a bunch of nothings - their "personality" could be defined solely by the one liners they kept spouting at random.

Now that I mentioned how horribly paced the series is, I'd like to return for a bit to the logic part because the complaint about SC not being logical doesn't end here.

You see, in Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency when you are introduced to Hamon, you more or less know how it works right off the bat. There are some new techniques Jonathan and Joseph gain over time, but it's still a logical progression. You also know how to defeat every enemy - either expose them to the sun, or hit them hard enough with a Hamon-imbued strike to the head in order to disintegrate their brain. In SC, even after finishing both the seasons I still don't know how exactly Stands work. At first, it appears that you're introduced to every Stand's abilities right off the bat, just like you were with Hamon. Except it's not the case at all because, as I mentioned before, characters can suddenly gain new abilities, or force their Stand to do things they weren't able to do before just because it's convenient.

Another illogicality is how to kill a Stand, and that so far's been puzzling me the most because of its sheer inconsistency. Sometimes the characters have to kill the user for their Stand to die, while sometimes they only have to beat them up. Hell, sometimes they don't even have to fight him - his Stand just outright dies the moment they surrender. How in the fuck does it work?! Make up your mind, anime!

And last, but not least, the humor. Oh boy, how I despise the humor in Stardust Crusaders. In both Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency the humor is a combination of Evil Dead/Braindead/[insert your horror-comedy here] style of "so ridiculously violent it's just funny" fights and Monty Python-esque mix of absurdity and wit. In Stardust Crusaders? Shit jokes, fart jokes, shit-eating jokes, pissing jokes... Not to mention, in Part 1 and Part 2 the balance between humorous and completely serious scenes was more than masterful - the transition was smooth and fluid. Stardust Crusaders doesn't fluently go from one to another. Instead it just jumps from shit so dark and serious it could fit in Berserk to jokes about literal shit. It's really jarring, to say the least.

Here's another thing to add to your rant: characters with stands never bother to seek-out obvious solutions to problems, like in Jotaro's fight against Enya, Justice is a stand made of fog (never really specified if the fog itself is a stand or is bound to the fog) and Jotaro defeats her by using Star Platinum to inhale all of Justice causing Enya to pass-out.because that made it somehow impossible for Enya to breathe too.

You know what the obvious solution is? Just knock her out. She's an old lady with a stand that has no real defensive use at all, she's not even hiding anywhere despite her stand having fantastic range, so just punch her in the fucking face or strangle her until she's out cold.

He wanted a somewhat definitive end to the original storyline I imagine. So he would feel better about moving to something different. Dio's seemingly last henchman is killed and everyone is put into better lives than they led before, with the Jojo lineage somewhat severed with Jolyne being Irene instead of Jolyne.

Have you read the manga? He basically spells it out for Emporio near the end. He feels guilty for the death of his sister and wants to feel like he had no choice but to take the actions he did, like he was roped into his ultimate situation by fate. By achieving the power of time acceleration, he wanted to make everyone experience their own futures and then place them into a reset world where they subconsciously understand their predetermined actions. That way, nobody can feel guilty for doing what fate tells them to, but as a consequence nobody has free will. He basically gave everyone in the world Epitaph without King Crimson.

How? Pucci possibly suffered the greatest failure of any villain in Jojo. Not only did Emporio kill him before Made in Heaven could be finalized by completing the loop, the fact that nuJolyne and friends aren't in prison and FF isn't there with them implies that Pucci was erased from existence entirely.

Part 1 felt extremely dated, updated animation aside. It was a chore to get through and you could tell how old the material was. Fortunately it was short. The early Jonathon/Dio interactions were good and that was about it.

Part 2 had a real story going for it but the asspulls in the fights were too much for even JoJo standards for me to tolerate sometimes.

I thought I'd LOVE part 3 as it has such a famous reputation but it just feels like a video game where they battle never-ending badguys of the week before moving on to the next. There's basically no story besides that and Stand's consume the whole story. Dio did nothing as well, besides die and the final fight was full of asspulls

Part 4 was definitely the comfiest, but after Okuyashu's bro died I had a huge lapse in interest in the series (took me over a year to start watching it again) and it bored me. Yoshikage Kira reinvigorated my interest though and I loved it once he became introduced.

I'm enjoying Part 5 so far and don't get the bad reputation outside of the fact that Gio is a bit dull and his stand is surprisingly boring as well.
