Naofumi doesn't see the User Interface until someone tells him about it.
All the heroes think the rules are different. One's like, "its all about item ranks" Naofumi doesn't see that information until he makes himself believe its there, then his UI changes.
The church tells them that the heroes they can't fight together because their weapons interfere with each other. But then Naofumi fight alongside Scythe Hero just fine and doesn't incur any exp penalty because he doesn't know other Heroes exist outside the 4...yet.
