It tries so hard to be like S1 that fails miserably, the episodes feel flat, even if the director already stated that the "healing" essence of the show would predominate, they're hopelessly boring.

I don't feel a strong connection with any of the Friends introduced in this season and none of them really contributes to solve any of the mysteries depicted, and for worse, Friends like Roadrunner, Toki or Aardwolf were used poorly, I mean, can you imagine Toki helping the PPP just to get Japari Buns?

A few threads ago, someone tried to say "The threads are only negative during the end of the week. They're more positive and full of discussion when a new episode airs"

So I guess that was a fucking lie.

It's somehow even worse. Everyone has already noticed that none of the characters move when they are talking, but a few times this episode it felt like my eyes were getting dragged to Dog who was talking and the only thing moving was her mouth. This is low quality Chinese sweatshop tier animation.
Also, they just cut away for the beast fight. Too hard, I guess.

to me they were one of the saving graces of this season, it's so nice that they're shoddy detectives and revealed how pathetic they were when confronting the main group. I found that to be pretty fun. I also like how they're driven by their desire to pursuit/investigate that they immediately direct Serval and Caracal to Doggy's house. Their dialogue on Kyururu/Caracal's debacle was worth a honest laugh.
besides pulling princess hair, which was a horrible move, they're pretty likeable dorks and if they're not appearing then I really don't think there's anything I'm looking foward anymore on the show.

The dog in this episode is a metaphor for all KF fans, we are just waiting for the humans that worked on season 1 to come back.

What little positive discussion completely dropped about 2-3 episodes ago. Rightfully so. This show has ruined any good will towards any of the fans that were willing to give this shitfest a chance.

All the more reason Domestic doggly should forget about Kyururu and settle with Kaban.

In episode 12, they're going to rip of S1 by having a giant cerulean fight again.

And then all of the friends from the earlier episodes are going to show up. But they're going to help the cerulean, not Kyururu.

And that isn't "friendship" enough for you?
I do agree that this entire season has been subpar so far (and it's unlikely to ever get better in the surprise action arc that will most definitely happen soon) but this episode was the one thing they did right. They even hinted at a lore element that nobody seems to have noticed because GRRR KADOKAWA HATE HATE HATEEEE.

Kadokawa's CEO decapitates everyone who was involved in the Tatsuki incident, says that this season was a "what if" scenario, and begs for Tatsuki to come back to direct the real KF2.

Last week's episode, there were a couple people here posting things about the show with emotions other than rage/despair (not much more than screencaps, though).

But this time, there's no one. Not a single one. I think the show finally reached ground zero with this episode.

the first 10 minutes were legitimately good and had a good atmosphere.
I didn't like Caracal bitchy tantrum, it probably could've been solved other way.
I didn't like the dog's total beating. I get the idea to show that the Beast is dangerous, but that was a bit too much. If Kyururu learned from Kaban how to use fire or thought about a way to avoid most of the damage instead of leaving the dog to it's luck, that would've been great. Even if zen an arma joined the fight and used their high defense would've been way better and redeemd a bit of their characters.
But the thing I didn't like at all was how kyururu didn't give a fuck about the dog once the battle was over, probably checking after her injuries, taking a break at her house (since it turned into night) and having everyone getting along to leave her with a better memory and even inviting her to join the team even if the dog decided to stay at home.

That would probably have been better than what we got

Honestly I almost cried.
It was very sad. Dog was so cute and adorable, like a real dog. And when she got trashed I thought they were going to kill her, it seemed fitting considering her previous statements were huge death flags and we know they had to get rid of her so the Kaban-Serval-Caracal status quo remains, they can't have Kaban leaving with Dog or Dog joining the party.
So the thought of her death already had me quite emotional, when she cries and leaves the thought of poor Dog alone after already waiting for so long was enough to make me tear a bit.

Somewhat. I'm feeling the way I felt after watching one of those old movies a dog where usually the dog gets injured near the climax protecting someone else and it seems like he will die but he manages to live.
Except in this case the dog had to leave alone and sad.
It's not a happy episode, but it had some happy moments. It's not entirely tragic but it has some sadness. I thought it was a good episode, it made me remember how much I love my dog and that gave me a warm feeling.
It's far from the 100% happy easy going nature of S1 though, undeniably so.

I was hoping for this so hard even though the chances of adding a third friend to the party are so low but that's precisely why it felt like a possible twist at this point in the show. Dog actually got along with Kyururu so well it felt like natural for her to come along.

Tatsuki stuck with a cogent narrative through the entire show, with a few minor diversions like the PPP episode (which is still good on its own). That alone showed more guts and ambition than anything in this season.

This season is one of the safest sequels I've ever seen. The only risks it takes feel like they were accidental due to the people in charge being robots incapable of understanding how humans will react to their references to the first season. But aside from that, it's been following the formula of the first season to the letter while removing most of the sense of suspense and danger inherent to the setting.

It's no wonder the Chinese producers of this show would want to hurt animals in any way they can, especially dogs.
They have no empathy toward other living beings, so putting them in charge of Kemono Friends just makes this shit inevitable.
