Is Kino no Tabi the definition of "it really makes you think" in anime?
Kino
Kino is Kino
I once saw it described as a show for "people who like being told what to think but don't like being told anything new" and I thought that was pretty accurate. It's still very enjoyable because of its execution though.
It is kino, after all.
This. My main complaint about this show is its lack of subtlety. It's very obvious and upfront about its message. I see it as Aesop's fables, but in anime form.
That said, some of the stories in it are pretty top tier. One of my favorites was the parable about the railroad, where one was laying down track, one was cleaning it, and one was taking it apart, all at the same time. It's a perfect allegory for a lot of work in the world, as depressing as that is.
Kino
It's ok to be told what to think as long as the thing you're being told is correct. Sigsawa is redpilled as fuck.
It's funny because that's exactly what I like about it. It doesn't try to pretend about the scenarios it presents and even if it's upfront, it's not like Kino is presented as always being right in her assessment/decisions over the situations presented before her.
It definitely has a fable/fairy tale-like quality to them and the direction of the original anime really serves to heighten that atmosphere.

>makes you think
>literally living in a bubble
no
except the dream episode
that shit came out of nowhere
Also forgot to mention, but unlike a lot of anime that "really makes you think", the show is never actually pretentious about the ideas it delves into with how hamfisted it is in its presentation.
I don't get it. Are you asking for anime that " really makes you think...", or are you asking for anime that genuinely makes you think?
Kino lacks focus, it jumps from interesting idea to interesting idea constantly without developing any of them to a decent degree.
If you're fifteen maybe. Otherwise none of the ideas in it should be new.
It doesn't really tell you what to think though. Most of the ideas are presented without judgement. It's not a guide to living your life, it's a tour of some interesting (but hardly novel) ideas.
Its thought provoking yeah. Some of its messages have been explored by other media ad nauseam though.
>it jumps from interesting idea to interesting idea constantly without developing any of them to a decent degree
That's the point of the series. It's never tried to be anything else.
no kino is the definition of kino
I'm not sure which will happen first, a new chapter of the LN finally being translated or me learning Japanese well enough to be able to read it myself. Most likely I'll die before either.
It's one of the easiest LN to read.
That's good to hear but unfortunately I'm also one of the stupidest people to ever attempt to learn Japanese so it probably evens out.
