Ash is pretty bland yes and he's clearly the MC from the trailer, but I actually think the simple charm of the episode 1-3 story is pretty fun, if not very cliche.
Only if they force her in, she has nothing to do with the main game. A cameo maybe.
There are so many cute girls in episode 1-3, like a ton. Patty, Tea, Lottie, Io, Fourier, Quna, Sara, Claris Claes, just off the top of my head. Who we actually get to see a lot of depends on how they adapt it, since they'd have to condense things really hard to squeeze all that story into a single cour.

I started because of PSO2 but I watched until the end because of kaichou and Itsuki. I hope they at least make a cameo with them married or some shit.

That would be really weird since Itsuki's anime takes place after the events of this one. She actually shows up in the game story for episode 5 but I forgot entirely if Itsuki was mentioned at all because the only good thing I remember about episode 5 was that pic related is best girl.

it has to be at least 2 cour possibly 3 because of the amount of material to cover for episodes 1-3. sega definitely has the funding for it.

based on arika's complete playthrough of pso2 episode 1-3 with minimal gameplay and mostly story scenes on youtube. there is roughly 960 minutes of story for episode 1-3. assuming 20 minute episodes that translates to at least 48 episodes to cover everything.

Most of what they do is collabs.
But because of collabs, they can't sell the game outside of Japan, so they can't really grow any further than they are now.

They never had any intention of releasing it internationally to begin with. And that wouldn't stop them anyway, they'd just release separate western servers with collab content removed.

They did an English release a few years back on the southeast Asia region.
The updates stopped when the AC scratch hit the point where it's mostly collabs of stuff SEGA doesn't own.

at a convention a few years ago i asked Aaron Weber about the western pso2 situation and he was unable to give me a clear answer about what was going on. but he did tell me that collabs are not holding pso2 back from the west and that they could easily get approval to bring all of that content westward. the hold up is something else. im thinking some combination of bad deals with china and some difficulty getting staff to manage the western servers. at one point they actually tried to get creative assembly to maintain western pso2 servers. phantasy star was briefly namedropped on job listings on creative assemblys website.

Episode 4 was great, episode 5 was the one with the garbage story

Really the thing that bugged me the most was the whole Video Game being connected to another dimension shit but still better the generic Isekai that was episode 5

The only thing I don't like about Ash as the MC is that in canon the MC is supposed to be someone who plays all the classes and is good at all of them, whereas Ash is always just the hunter MC. What would be really awesome is if they kept this fact in the anime and had Ash switching to various classes in different parts, like Ash switching to braver at the start of the Luther arc.

Of course we all know we can't have nice things like that and Ash will be a hunter from start to finish.

I dunno, I thought it was cool in PSO2. I mean even if you put that fact aside, the game spends the entire story, from episode 1 all the way to 5, making it very clear that the MC is the best. There's already a lot of cliche chosen one stuff as it is. I just like the idea of them keeping that aspect from the game. Kind of the opposite of crap like SAO where the game world is built around making Kirito look cool, and more about the game story (because its an actual, real game, not a fake one like SAO), working itself around real ingame mechanics and offering a lore explanation.
