They're similar, but it's the opposite perspective.
This is something you notice in Diebuster a lot, it's the reversal (really refutal) of Gunbuster. Most things are just straight up the opposite of what they were in Gunbuster.

Most notably the way Buster Machine 7 makes her entrance is the exact opposite to Gunbuster's first appearance.

Gusterbuster's ending leaves me sobbing every time. Diebuster kinda sucks, I feel like it misses the mark by trying too hard to be a wacky FLCL knockoff. Diebuster has a few good moments though and possibly the best OP/ED combo in all of anime.

Diebuster first half was better than gunbuster's first half. Gunbuster's slightly beats out diebuster's later half. Gunbuster last few episodes felt like an actual movie. It was fucking hype and emotional. I don't really remember diebuster's ending except the last scene which was honestly the best ending in any anime ever.

Just beacuse the first half of gunbuster is slow doesn't mean its shit, it feels so much more earned when gunbuster starts fighting trillon plus monsters after noriko conquers her own demons and i prefer my mecha harder then die buster but i lived them both clearly shows from different eras i hope tribuster is set right when noriko reachs earth and they can all interact
