It's the same magazine that Dorohedoro finished in. The magazine that it was originally in went under and she had to move and she moved to this one. She didn't move specifically for this series.

I think it won't flop then since it will probably be bought and read by the same people who were into Dorohedoro.

Dorohedoro moved from Ikki to Gessan near its end. Gessan is a shonen magazine but it shouldn't matter. What matters is how this magazine is almost completely irrelevant.

Dorohedoro was a special manga. A lot of people won't bother with this anymore but hopefully enough of her hardcore fans get the volumes. If things go really well it could be even bigger than Dorohedoro but the chances are slim.

It actually moved to another magazine first, which also went under, and that's when it moved to Gessan. There's nothing wrong with being in a smaller magazine. It could give her more freedom because an irrelevant magazine won't be quick to cancel shit. And irrelevant magazines can be lifted up by specific series. Take Young Animal with Berserk (if it ever came out) or Ultra Jump with Jojolion. I don't know how much the difference in pay was but considering Dorohedoro was in two magazines before it that couldn't even manage to stay in business, it's better than it having been canceled.

Curse was such a cool concept.

It all just reverted to exactly the same as it was before. The ending feels like i got blue balled in the worst possible way.

I was happy with how Kaiman and Nikaidou's story ended personally, they both sorted their shit out and had decided what they wanted to do with the rest of their lives. It's the others I felt a bit more blueballed by, like with Ebisu and Fujita where it felt like the author was actually about the write an ending for them earlier on but then got the go-ahead to extend the story so she backtracked on that, and then never really went back on it.

I think he means that some of the designs look too similar, not the art style. Using Mizukami as an example you can clearly tell his style apart but I never feel like the characters look too similar.

The bizarre art is spot on, but I got more the feeling of a short oneshot than the first episode of a series

It just hasn't bothered to vomit out its entire setting at you in the first chapter, I expect it'll start to reveal more as more chapters come out.

It's fairly short for a monthly manga's first chapter, so not much can really be set up. Dorohedoro's was shorter though. I just looked and it was only 24 pages long, which is ridiculous. I think it's fine though. It introduced what I assume is the main character and he's in some sort of conflict. You're right that it doesn't feel much like something introducing a new story, it feels like a chapter more in the middle of a story, though there's nothing really wrong with that.

I figure the meeting between Q Hayashida and her editor went something like this
>EDITOR-SAN: Hey buddy you went pretty heavy with fantasy in your previous manga, maybe you can try a change of pace, sci-fi maybe?

And then she drew magic users with skeleton masks in space.

I think maybe is how the supossedly main character spent unconscious most of the episode while the space pirate rambled about ruling the universe like a saturday cartoon villain. It wasnt very catchy.

Yeah it did feel like it had a fairly planned out plot, the only thing that didn't feel planned out was how long certain things would last. Hence why the final arc lasted so fucking long beyond her original dates.

Either she's lying, she got really lucky on how the things ended up lining up, or she's a genious when it comes with coming up with stuff.
The only thing that felt out of nowhere was hole kun but at that point i was like yeh okay you deserve that i leave you pass that one.

Most mangaka have this issue, the only cases where there's a drastic enough difference in character design styles is when the mangaka has been around for long enough time for his entire art style change entirely like say Araki or togashi, and even then they have a lot of samefaces if you compare characters from the same era, specially Araki.
