Fate has all the elements of something I should like, and I've spent years trying to like it. I read F/SN, I watched Fate Zero, I played Fate Extra, I tried FGO, and I've picked up and dropped most other anime adaptations. It just doesn't work. It's all disappointing in ways I can hardly describe. It hits me with an endless feeling of wasted potential and amateurish writing. It's the quintessential chuuni franchise. It manages the incredible feat of being both overly complex and mind-numbingly shallow. It's the definition of only good for its porn, but there's even too much of that nowadays to the point where it all feels the same.

I was intrigued and read the VN (Ataraxia too) and I began hating fate when I started seeing more shit I didn't recognise: Singularities, "jeanne alter", "Altria", etc. And then I downloaded this F/GO thing. I beheld what Fate has become and have grown to hate it.

At its core, the story of Fate/Stay Night is very good and relatable. It's just about a guy who wants to help people when it seems like there's no way to. That didn't used to be the case. It was popular among us westerners when the Deen anime came out, then fizzled. It wasn't until ufotable resurrected Fate that it started to become popular again. That was when people who once loved it started to hate it. FGO, as everyone has said was literally the straw that broke the camel's back or the final nail in the coffin.

The difference is that the concept (heroes from all ages) and the core concept of the Fate/Stay Night story (a kid who wants to become a hero) is something people want to like. If Nasu returns to basics, people will come back to it.

Having new fans and going mainstream is a good thing if it keeps it soul. Fate series right now revolves all around FGO which is the problem.

It's like Fire Emblem series. The series almost died during its DS games, but then revived after the 3DS game. Afterward they even made the mobage game since it was so popular.

The difference here is that Fire Emblem still makes mainstream game along with supporting the mobage. Fate on the other hand gets shitty musou spinoffs that revolves around the mobage instead of writing another VN or hell even anything not related to Fate (Tsukhime dead, Mahoyo dead, Rakkyo dead, Girls Work kek).

It's not that hard as to why old fans left the series because nothing new is being made other than things related to FGO.

Participating in a battle royale.
The masters and servants are from different time periods and are on completely different levels in terms of power. Because of this they tend to have different opinions on things, sometimes they have things to learn from eachother, sometimes they just outright hate eachother.

It's that dynamic that and setting that really captured me with the series, I will always appreciate that while Extra started a lot of bad trends, it still tried to keep with that general theme. But as soon as they ditched that premise and just went with Servants vs Servants magical duels and time traveling and one guy who can summon 1000 different servants it just really lost the appeal to me.

I was reading the recent FGO manga and Drake just casually busts out her NP and I know it's petty but that kinda stuff really irks me since I really miss when the NP was the be all end all trump card, atleast the anti-army ones.

Been playing FGO for a year now and I have skipped EVERY single scene. Not because it's bad but I'm just super not interested in the general premise.
