Meh as a mangareader I enjoyed Bones translation of the Mogami arc a lot too. Honestly to me it feels like there's two versions I can experience now. And most importantly the anime version still got the message of the mogami story across.

It wasn't a 1 for 1 adaptation so therefore it's bad

I've heard complaints about the story for the episode being a bit weak but I never really got that. The episode hit the emotional front hard with how well-directed it was, everything from the muted colour palettes to the more deformed and ugly animation styles used to convey the sick emotions of the bullies set the mood damn well. I was already excited for the series and thought the past few episodes seemed like they were building up to something good, but I couldn't have guessed in a hundred fucking years we'd get an ep that amazing.

This. After I finished the ep and rewatched it like twice I read the manga version of the arc and loved it too. I'm just glad as hell that Bones went all-out to casually drop an absolute spectacle of an episode in the middle of the season like that.

Part of me wishes ONE would create a horror-centric work since some of the art and storylines in Mob Psycho would've fit perfectly in a horror manga.
Another part of me recognizes that that might not be his forte and that the reason the horror elements were so good in MP100 was because they were juxtaposed against lighter comedic elements as well. I'm not sure if he could sustain an entire serious horror story, but I'd love to see him try.

Huge differences and at the same time not that many. I would recommend reading the manga first and then going into crybaby.
Though crybaby is a good starting point too, if you like animation more and the artstyle appeals to you, because the music is amazing.
The ovas basically only cover the early parts of the story so it's not a full adaption. It does have beautiful animation created by ghibli animators and the eng dub is a classic.

I would like a continuation some years later, but personally I think I would prefer the tone the current series has to remain.

To be fair if I was an anime only I would feel pretty overwhelmed by the speed of the last episode too. A lot of new characters were thrown at them and they had no way of knowing that most of them were literal whos that won't be important in this arc. Luckily, tomorrow's episode should clear up that the only important new characters were the super 5 and the Boss. I'm happy that Bones rushed it.
But besides the last episode, I don't think anyone should complain about the pacing this season. Bones has been doing a great job.

Maybe I phrased it not good enough. It's fine to be critical, but there is something like having your expections set too high. It could cloud your experience once the moment is there. Yeah Setsuo Itō is a great talent. His voice could adapt to any emotion Mob is experiencing. Especially when he's angry, that growl in his voice is so good. Something similar like Yūki Kaji except with him it sounds a bit more forceful while with Setsuo it sounds more natural to me. That combined with a more soft yet deep spoken voice, it makes Mob sound more dark or creepy rather than hotheaded and edgy.

Do you not realise how lucky you are? Normally I'd be against the whole "be grateful for what you get" mindset but you've got one of the best studios in the industry giving one of the most basic-looking manga the best adaptation it could've ever gotten. You could have gotten a series that was rushed to fuck or paced horribly with terrible animation. OST and art like the poor fags who's shows get adapted by J.C. Staff.
Be fucking grateful, the few panels they've skipped out on meant nothing in the overall scheme of the manga, if they removed huge scenes I'd understand but at this point you're whining about the smallest of things. An anime adaptation isn't meant to be a one-to-one recreation of the manga, if that's what you want you should just read the manga. (Which is a good idea too.)

You know,another good way to think about manga and anime version being worth each other,is that manga due to it's format have a tons of omakes which is for obvious reasons couldn't be naturally integrated in anime so it's kind of more "lore" and expanded version of story,when the anime is focused on core narrative and visuals while including just some of the side material.I really happy with both versions,it honestly a miracle of the series to just exist.Also it really warms my hearth to see this series finally getting recognition it's deserves and that people is really loving second season

To be fair this is more of a heritage from the webmanga gag format than of western animation. With both Makai no Ossan and One Punch Man, ONE always did short, self-contained arcs. He got more used to long storylines later on though, and elements from previous arcs would appear on the next.

What was really lost from that part being removed? We still perfectly got to see how angry Mob was by how he dispatched the mooks. The only downside to that part being lost for me is that it would've been cool to see how it would've been animated.

Seeing Mob go all out physically was something we never ever got to see in the manga, and seeing him pushed that far and snapping showed how much the fire impacted him.
In the anime, it felt more subdued so the impact was reduced. Simple as that. It might be one panel or two, but these can make a lot of difference. Just my 2 cents
