This was how she looked up until the most recent KOF games where they toned down her design to a much more conventional physique. (I blame Ogura for this). Blue Mary also went through the same "makeover" so atleast is nice to see Azuma taking inspiration from her original look.

Wild Leona is real, though. Like Iori, Leona has Orochi blood pumping in her veins, and if she's not careful, she can succumb to the Riot of the Blood and go completely mind-blank berzerk. It's precisely why Leona comes off as cold and always in control of her emotions: because if she isn't, the Riot can get the better of her. She's gotten skilled enough to the point that she can invoke the Riot in small bursts for a short power spike. In this manga, she almost went full Riot, but Ralf's words helped her keep her sanity. Now she's using Orochi power while in complete control.

That's just an Orochi emblem, if it's not immediately obvious already that Leona is invoking her Orochi blood.

To my knowledge, Wild Leona canonically only happens once in KOF, and that's towards the end of '97, when Orochi is in the process of waking up, and it overwhelms Leona.

Yeah, the closer she's to Orochi, the harder is for her to control the Riot of Blood. As long as he isn't near her she can invoke it to power up while managing to mantain control, like she just did in this chapter.

I think it was the way the old neo geo sprites were shaded that helped give certain characters a more defined look in certain body parts? The shading of the skin was not always uniform and had a metal-ish twinge to it. Looking back a lot of her drawn depictions by SNK artists were not as muscular as probably perhaps Shinkiro at times.

Yes, Leona was never as swole as Blue Mary but she definitely looked more toned, although she wasn't using her tanktop back then so her arms were a bit covered.

It was in XIII when Ogura made her visibly muscular but then SNK decided to slimm down the entire cast for XIV.

Azuma going for a design that resembles her XIII one is an interesting choice since the manga is based on the events of XIV.

I won't argue about the Leona thing, but a bunch of the cast as far as KoF goes and their incarnations in that series, got jacked up for the most part in XIII. Then there was also King who seemed to suffer the opposite when she got stick arms in XIII.

The Kusanagi and Yasakani were on the same level, but Orochi wanted to break the trust that existed between them so they wouldn't be a big threat to him anymore.

What happened wasn't clear, but aparently Yasakani's wife was killed by Orochi followers and the blame fell on the Kusanagi's leader. The Yasakani was so devastated by such betrayal that he accepted to make a pact in order to obliterate the Kusanagi lineage, but they can't stand Orochi's power and that's why they die young.

There have been hints in multiple games of her affirming control, like in supers where her hair turns red for the duration and then reverts back. Leona's all about trying to stay in control.

this is the same author that looked at Yuri picking up and dropping SF special moves and applied the concept to her imitation Tung and Shun'ei - this manga's in pretty good hands.

In short, their families have become rivals because of a misunderstanding. They even have the whole "sun and moon" imagery going on to show how they are two sides of the same coin and complete each other.

Kyo never actually wanted to kill Iori, and seems to have started enjoying their fights more lately. Meanwhile there's hints that Iori don't want to kill Kyo anymore, but is too proud to admit and he also wants to keep his rivalry since he enjoy fighting Kyo.

Angel vs Leona's outcome seems a bit predictable but the depiction of the action has been top notch and they are developing Angels character wich is nice. Also, Leona controlling the Riot of The Blood is awesome to see aswell.

Also Ralf, Clark, Ramon and Dino working together to stop the interference and save Angel. They may be rivals, but they're still good people except Dino, fuck that guy.

Leona seemed more focused after that little beatdown she got, and Angel it's using more power but it's being less sharp with her attacks.

Angel doesn't have a single canon fight. The manga takes what we know (experimented on by NESTS) and goes on it's own wild ride, exaggerating everything for the cool factor.

Leona also has no canon fights. Scratch that she does have canon fights but they were against the poster boys of the series who are overpowered as fuck so ofc it lead to her losing low diff in both scenarios.

Daimon has never shown the physical strength to slow down a moving train. But fuck it. If it makes the characters look cool the author and artist will do it.

That leaves K', Official Invitation, Psycho Soldier, and South America teams. I could see those working in almost any arrangement, though I expect South America and Official Invitation to be the ones moving on from it.

Yeah. At first Angel was using her brains, so when Leona started blocking or dodging her attacks she would take advabtsge of her speed and strength to find a new opening for her blows to land. Now she's just a kamikaze going at full force with no fighting strategy whatsoever.

More like her personality. Angel is untrained, so a lot of her attacks are her just winging it.

I mean, Angel had literally no plot relevance on the game to explain her hanging with Ramon and KOD beyond a half hearted "she's being chased by NESTS assassins" and Azuma now is properly fleshing her out.

There's no reason to think the same couldn't be done about KOD's grudge with Nelson or Ramon's secret agent status.

Every team has an official prologue story on the KOFXIV website. In Team Mexico's prologue story, Ramon convinces Angel to come out of hiding and join him and KOD as their third, knowing that she's no longer aligned with NESTS. As an agent, Ramon is off-duty; he's competing in KOF just to represent his country and his style, lucha libre.

The KOFWorld translation is the "better than nothing" translation. It tries to get the point across but is stiff and clunky. This new translation takes a couple liberties with lines but sounds much more natural.

This has been a dream of mine for years. Terry’s been around so long that he’s had a pretty wide variety of moves, so you wouldn’t even need to work hard to give him some sort of decent skill tree. Start off with the short range flame-like power wave (or even the weird ff1 version), then choose to spec into either the directional projectile version or round wave for local aoe, learn power charge then choose to spec into the MotW combo version or the link to power dunk, even give him fire kick and those weird combo moves from KoF ‘99. In '97 you highlight Leona, hold start then up, down, up, down, up, down + BD. She'll appear at the character select screen. I'm pretty sure she's already unlocked in 97GM released recently.

In 2002 and 2002UM it's a regular move Leona has with same input as before (up, down, up, down, up, down + BD) during the fight. You'll lose half of what's left of your life points tho. In 2002UM her HSDM will turn her Orochi afterwards and revert back if she's in that state.
