This is is not an "adolescence" story, because while the characters are teenagers, the social hierarchy is already formed and understood - they are functionally adults. The story also lacks the fleeting moment aspect (mono no aware) associated with yuri, and it lacks the "wrong but good" aspect of yuri.
In fact, it's a weird anime when you look at it. It's too serious for what I would expect are male viewers, and too permanent for female viewers.
