Compared to that Kotobuki girls have various actions with different characters, it's not locked in girls only world, the fights are much better, the girls seems to have more personality than GAF ones which are just harem cutouts, there is actual world building involved in Kotobuki where they try to tell some story than the idiocy we see in GAF with special snowflake male MC.

Originally, Isao intended to borrow them soldiers as a way of showing off his new air force when they fought of pirates. Kotabuki corps declined the escorts though. When that happened, they turned to plan B instead, show off the new military force by blowing up the pirates who hijacked the blimp.
The whole thing turned into a (very minor) setback though as the kotabuki handled everything on their own. Hence why Isao is now trying to buy them out instead as a new tactic (since they are Julias only reliable cronies).

From the current shot the Smooth towers seem to be the most prevalent, followed by the monoliths and then the Tower of Pisa looking ones.

This, together with the amount of spanish names suggests that Mexicans where the first people to come here. Or, this could be Mexico full stop. Though the map is different iirc.
The tower of Pisa towers reinforce my opinion that renaissance period Italians arrived to this world. Other reasons for this idea is the name Zara, the Italian name for a town in Croatia, and the culture of the place, which seems a modern development of Italian maritime Republics.
The black towers with the obelisks might be based on the Jubilee Tower, ie the British influence we already know of. But I think they are based on the Lighthouse of Alexandria.

Yes, but that doesn't mean you cave into them. If you cave once, then they know it works and can demand more and more from you in the future. To prevent this, initially they took a hard line stance against them and used all kinds of methods to break up the groups: strike breakers, hired goons, political pressure due to being in tight with local politicians on account of making campaign contributions and the like.
Basically, at the start, business owners had no reason to capitulate to unions and politicians were not sympathetic to them. It wasn't until the political threat of communism reared its head that politicians started taking disputes between workers and businesses seriously for its own sake than to just keep the rich people who bribe them happy, and it wasn't until unions began organizing politically that politicians saw cooperation better than antagonism.

Unions are essentially an attempted democratic solution to a flaw of democracy, which is the corruptibility of elected officials through the accumulation of money and influence used to manipulate elections. Because unions are also democratic they possess the same flaw, it's an infinite regression of trying to police democracy with more democracy, the threat of corruption is omnipresent due to the fact that there's no real way to tell if a person is susceptible to bribery until they're in a position where they have to turn down bribes, at which point it's already too late.
I'm not sure what an alternative looks like, except that the wedding of political power with control of industry is a grave mistake that should be avoided at all costs.
