Are the rebuilds really that bad?
Other urls found in this thread:
They butcher Asuka's character, thr pacing is rushed, and Mari is a fanservice noncharacter.
I hated 1.1 and 2.2 but I unironically liked 3.3
Yes they are.
>trusting Yea Forums on anything
90% of these newfags can't even explain why the sky's blue, let alone judge an anime fairly
Thr Anime > the movie. The rebuilds are shit, though 3 was at least interesting
I believe I can answer that question. No, they are not bad and here is why: The reasons things aren't 'the same' is because things aren't going to be. If anyone was paying attention the end of the series marked a whole lot of fucking development whether we got to see it or not.
Granted, the character arcs and depth on their plight isn't on par with how it was in the past but it's a continuation of the series not a rehash so things are bound to be a little off. Mari actually makes sense to be there, it could have been anyone though and that's kind of the point. I want to see where it's going in the end but I wouldn't underrate it based on nostalgia alone. It's a pretty fucking meta writing trope to be honest.
In a way: People learn from their mistakes
I've got character dramas I like but I honestly don't give a shit about the characters or plot in EVA, I just love it for the action scenes and setting, it manages to hit all my buttons
>Giant robot does super robot stuff while somehow keeping a real robot sense of scale against aliens
>The giant robots are actually armored demigods in a coma, except sometimes they wake up a bit
>The aliens are young gods of a diametrically opposed lineage of the humans and EVAs
>Religious undertones, music and imagery really hammer home the desperate, brink-of-Armageddon feeling of the fights
Sachiel, Ramiel, Sahaquiel and Ireul are my boys.
I like the rebuilds because they improve the shit I like and horribly mangle stuff I don't care about. Sue me.
>a real robot sense of scale
The fuck is this bullshit, "sense of scale" is totally independent of military realism in giant robot anime.
I laughed way too hard at that picture.
Evas are massive. I don't think they're a "realistic" size, though what's considered realistic size-wise isn't really something that's set. They're quite a bit taller than any Gundam suit. From a quick search at least double the height. Eva heights seem to fluctuate a lot though.
The rebuilds aren't as good as the original. With that said, the first two rebuild movies aren't that bad, as long as you can appreciate them as a separately from the original. The third one sucks balls.
I'm all for the story but I've read it, watched the series and movies which all have a different take on things. That being said, it's a masterpiece of animation when it comes to magnitude and who doesn't love giant monster battles?
Scale in the sense of the the bombing angel? I agree there. Both with amount of force on the environment and how insignificant the looked in scope of the drop site. As for military strategy and realism, as funny as it is to say i'd sooner refer you to Code Geass than Evangelion.
Over the top? Yes, but c'mon. It's anime and we're talking about Giant humanoid synthetics made with the souls of the parents of the children and or clones that are piliting said machinations fighting distinct seemingly super-composite lifeforms that took a slightly different path from humanity in evolution. Gotta suspend some disbelief somewhere.[/spolier]
which part got you?
It's like tank autists watching GuP, the action itself is ridiculous but the details sell it. When they start their sprint to catch Sahaq they stagger and slip a bit because they're so huge and heavy that solid ground is like sand to them, then Shinji fucking bumps up against the sound barrier, then he has to stop and skid hundreds of meters from where he wants to stop because he's going too fast. There's a lot of bits where what the EVA is doing is over the top crazy and SHOULD seem unrealistic but there are little details that ground it.
I like TTGL and I like 8th MS team and Eva to me is some fucky hybrid that shouldn't work but does.
They're godlike. Yea Forums is fucking surreal-y retarded as always. Obviously the original is still king, but the Rebuilds are just unfiltered kino
The rebuilds are meant to be bad, so we can spot the tasteless faggots and make fun of them.
Clear bait. You wouldn't know Kino if it hit you on the way out to the next shitpost.
1 is a fairly straight redo of the beginning of the original series.
2 takes a hard turn, but it's still done fairly well and it's a compelling narrative overall.
3 is where everything breaks down and no one really knows what they were even thinking with it. Is it just a bunch of garbage thrown together to pander to core audiences, or is there something more interesting behind it?
>absolute terror field = autism
truly tingles my almonds
Wait is this post MEANT to be a parody of retarded casual Eva fans?
Tingles my almonds. Jesus.
I like that.
No I am regretfully cursed with the ability to simply enjoy things, did I mention that I like most of the EVA ost?
See, a tasteless faggot now we can make fun of him hahahaha what a tasteless faggot hahahaha
Almost everyone likes the NGE OST, it and Bebop are the anime I see brought up the most in ost threads
1 & 2 are great. 3 is a dumpsterfire.
The end of 2.2 got everyone hyped as fuck but then 3.3 was released. I still don't know how I feel about 3.3.
They're great. 3.3 was a breath of fresh air.
This. I got chills when tsubasa wo kudasai started playing. And teared up a little when ritsuko said "he's doing all that just to save a human being". Time to rewatch 2.22.
If you enjoy things so much why don't you watch more than 3 robot anime
Because I'm a lazy mangafag that can barely watch 2-3 anime a season let alone dig into his backlog.
I've watched more robot chinese cartoons I just figure TTGL is a good poster boy for "robot reality bending is a thing for reasons" and 8th MS team is a good poster boy for "Giant robots have weight and are grounded by little realistic details"
You should watch more Gundam. I watched all of the UC series this year and have to say, 08th MS Team was my least favorite. I didn't see anything in it that was particularly realistic in comparison to other Gundam series.
What is even the point of them aside from making more money? Bad or good, I don't understand the desire to watch them at all.
Nope. Just remember they are not Evangelion ReMAKES, they are Rebuilds.
It seems like most people who hated 3.3 tend to not understand the distinction.
Is there anything that sentiment couldn't be applied to? You should probably go.
They're cringe like EoE
Did we watch the same thing? 08th MS team was the most realistic of them all. Literal noobs on both sides struggling to learn mobile suits and burning through an entire clip just to take down one enemy. It was one of the best in my opinion.
I liked 3.3, it felt like old school anno trolling us again.
>Backpack = Pen-pens core
No, they are worse.
We don't know until we've seen the last one.
To be frank they're more of a sequel than a remake now. I think that was the point from the start.
>Rei is inside Shinji's walkman
This is pretty high on the list. Is this somehow a real speculation/theory?
I think the idea of the whole world being Shinji's creation is more accurate, at least... it's meant to appear like it is his creation to hide potential hostile parties.
Rei being Shinji's walkman just seems so silly if the above is the case.
I thought it was supposed to be a joke, but /c/ threads make me question if there's even any such thing as pretending to be retarded. The idea is that Rei's soul is recorded on the tape, because evangelions show that objects can contain souls and that's totally the same thing, and she exited EVA-01 at the same time as Shinji, in that form because of a reason. And Lilith taking Rei's appearance during the Third Impact we didn't see is unrelated to her. Q is just a clone of Rei, so after becoming curious about her original, reacting in horror, and making a decision for herself for the first time, obviously the plan for her is to become Rei's new body.
Yeah, that format has always gotten me too.
I enjoyed them overall and liked how they gave Rei more personality.
I still prefer the manga over both the series and the movies but that is because the manga better explains things and had a more fulfilling presentation of the ending.
1 is basically a compilation movie, 2 is boring garbage and 3 is so bad it's good.
2.2 was a masterpiece so no
2 and 3 are irredeemable, yes.
Literally worse than the prequel trilogy and I wish I was exaggerating
Anno is a hack
The only one worth seeing is 3.33 and only because it puts the characters in a new situations and setting we haven't seen them in before, that also isn't simply putting them into a harem comedy.
Rebuilds are an entertaining train wreck, nothing wrong with that
At this point, anyone saying they're unequivocally good are just trolling
not that user, but
>Ramiel is best girl
Anno effectively George Lucas'd his series.
If you think the rebuilds are bad you don't understand evangelion and you are probably just an upset asukafag that's bummed out there's less shinji x asuka moe than in NGE
Is that unit 00 or unit 03?
not really gainax gained a gorillion in mechardising, like the old series. To this point iam really surprised that ppl expect something about evangelion when from its starting was all about selling toys and shit.
its on par with presidential golf theory
Short answer: No.
Long answer: It's just Eva all over again - the only thing that changes is a tiny bit of characterization. Anyone who is upset is just going through the same stuff everyone went through when it originally came out. It's so Eva, you can literally watch the TV series, EoE, and then the Rebuilds in a row and it doesn't feel like you've stopped participating in the same story. The only difference is that 3.0+1.0 probably isn't going to be EoE-tier. Everyone forgets that, had EoE not been a literal masterpiece, the TV ending would have made Eva just another pretty good TV anime with a flop-ending.
I've been wondering the same thing since I watched it since it seemed to clash massively with the hype I saw around it before I watched it. And being realistic isn't really an excuse for being uninteresting, which I thought it was outside of that one fight near the end. You also have shit like the main character dodging a Zaku laser at point blank, which is some unrealistic as hell shit. Though to be honest the whole series being ground battles put me off to begin with as I prefer space battles. Turn A did ground battles better imo. So did 0080, though that didn't have very many battles to begin with.
this
Is there any doubt?
Is the girl in the foreground someone in particular?
Not really. She just serves as a backdrop to offset the brilliance of the best girl
>I hated 1.1 and 2.2 but I unironically liked 3.3
You're one twisted fucking psychopath. If I saw you walking down the street, I'd do a 360 turn around and walk away.
In a nutshell this. Refer to my other post
Because it's not over yet. It never was
Outright that is proposterous, that being said: I think this user is right on the money . You all saw the End of Evangelion- If we go by what we can see we essentially have the Adam and Eve metaphor with Shinji and Asuka. Since we know that rebuild is actually a continuation of the series and the world essentially reboot of the world itself (evidence shown with the location of the lance etc from when it was thrown). Instrumentally was supposed to be used to ascend to godhood. Shinji effectively made the choice at the end which kind of means that in the next impact he's pretty much the 'author' of his own story. Previous Shinji is God, current Shinji hasn't got there yet (and in this case was actually stopped prematurely in 2.2).)
The walkman I think was just a prop to tie them to the trauma of their parents, same with the glasses and Asuka's doll. Which we can't forget are 'instrumental' to the Evangelions themselves
Unit 03. Second generation.
Not really, most people here just are afraid that it somehow damages their memories of the original series.
They are their own thing and they are atleast enjoyable. How they actually fit into the bigger picture is, atleast to me, interesting.
>Is it just a bunch of garbage thrown together to pander to
kaworufags and asukafags.
3.33 was designed from the ground up to make the maximum amount of neetbux, and Shinjifags and Reifags spend less money than asuka&kaworu faggots
Well, it was fan service loaded to fuck but honestly- we were told exactly that on the trailer. Doesn't make it better but lets face it the fanbase has raped Anno's more than he did there. It could all be bullshit but we'll just have to wait to see the END
