I think is because Tatsuki isn't doing the same shit as others anime in term of direction and cinematography, so, many people felt this is alien for them, excep the ones who watched KF1 and even those people didn't fully understand what Tatsuki did in KF1 and how different it was in comparation to everything in a long time.

desu he is really obnoxious for the first few episodes. This is in large part to the fact that the things he's interested in are already known aspects of the world, at least by the other character. But once it becomes clear that the girls aren't interested in anything non-essential he immediately takes on a different feel. Suddenly he's interested in finding answers to stuff we're interested in but know we won't get from the others.

But that's the downside to initially unlikable with a slowburn development, especially since he's such a prominant character.

It's possible the situation in Kemurikusa is like that in Houseki no Kuni where the gembutts are descendants of humanity. The sisters and Wakaba are descendants of humanity merged with kemurikusa.

Any hack can create a rough storyboard with unique and profound ideas. The difference between good and bad writing is to translate the general impression into specific dialogue and direction. The story behind Kemurikusa isn't special as you say, and it's a lot like what Tatsuki did already with Kemono Friends. It's good writing because his treatment of the plot is clear, well paced, creates suspense, and with a touch of humor. Compare to, say, Egao no Daiko that starts with an open world filled with complex characters and many opportunities for exploring the tragedy of war but because of abysmal writing it leverages none of that into a poorly drawn bore-fest.

Adding onto this, would it be possible to assume that if humanity were using kemurikusa for military purposes, it'd be possible to "code" various colors to work with each other, as is the case of the red nushi living inside the wall?

Well the nice thing with Kondou Reina is that she seems to be pretty flexible, because she has done different sorts of roles, for example, the one on Slow Start is not the same as the one on ImoImo, basically she went from a MC on a super cutesy show to a MC on a super raunchy show, so that opens more doors to job opportunities. Meanwhile Yuka focuses on genki characters, so she must be careful of

That is where selecting voice actresses that are a close fit to the characters they are interpreting is a very good idea so they can give an extra flavor of personality to those characters. I would not be strange is the non serious parts on Kemurikusa are filled with ad-lib

The selection process for VAs must be pretty weird compared to most then for shows by Yaoyorozu.

He has worked with irodori, his ragtag team, since ten years ago so he already knows how to exploit to the full potential their meager tools, so it would not be strange if Yaoyorozu continues to be a pretty small animation studio even ten years on the future, basically I do not think he wants to exchange that level of creative liberty and control for one that will give him a pretty looking eye candy anime style but with a lot less of control and creative liberty.

Kemurukisa has a much smaller cast so it's probably different but I remember for KF they intentionally paired up newbie VAs with vets, the Owls and Foxes being good examples.

The source was Amazon Prime Video and there is two strange things happening.
The first is that the English and German subs are always at time with the little exception of the first episode that was nearly two hours late, meanwhile the subs on Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, Chinese and Korean are always a whole week late.

Tatsuki also killed those little cute bots... but personally, I think the real sin isn't kill a character but the reaction other characters have about the sacrifice that character did. Wakaba cried and feel bad when those little bots died fighting, while Kyururu just ignored that badly beaten dog who was trying to protect her and dispatched her like nothing.

On an unrelated note, I know they can't really go too wild with the fight scenes, but I kinda wish we could see the sisters really go crazy with their powers and do all sorts of really cool shit, including combination attacks like Rin throwing one of the Rinas who then acts as a mobile railgun and vomits out a high-speed steel girder at a red bug, or the attacking red bugs while stacked. Not even a gripe, I just think it'd be cool to see that kind of stuff in the show.

It'd be pretty crazy if Tatsuki and Yaoyorozu's ultimate goal is to create a multifranchise universe kind of deal where characters from their various shows are all in the same setting and interact with each other, so you have character X in show A showing up in show B to do stuff. You know, establish a main continuity between various projects and rather than treating each show as its own separate property, have it be part of something greater.

I remember when i was like you and tossed the show aside after the first couple of minutes literally the moment Serval jumps on Kaban and she says DON'T EAT ME, but i'm glad i got curious about the talks during the second/third week period, it's really different when CGI is used because it's your only resource, than because you can save animation time (i'm really on the fence with Kotobuki because of this, i'm not sure it's doing either thing damnit)

I think that most of the Kemurikusa fanbase (us included) is the same from KF1, although most of the KF1fanbase moved to different things and only a few remains on the KF2, as I highly doubt new people added to the KF2 fanbase without having experienced the joy of KF1.
