What the hell is up with the sense of time in Detective Conan? Even if you only count episodes that are based on manga chapters, it's all out of whack. One episode, they'll say it's around April 4th, another they'll say it's in February, then a few episodes later they'll say it's just after August. And yet everyone is still the same age as they always were.

Kaito is the real MC of the whole story, because the core of Conan's story, is about Black Organization trying to achive immortality.

The whole story started with Kaito`s father, the great magician, discovering and hunting for gems that can achieve imortality. However, he was murdered, and his two apprentices - Conan's mother and Sharon Wineyard created a Black Organization, that based on his finding focused on research of youth/immortality syrup.

Conan is a center of story, since he`s the Silver Bullet, since his mother is one of founders of BO - but all he can do is merely unveil the organization plans. The only ones who can destroy the organization is Kaito - because real BO power is not criminal schemes, but unironical plain immortality and MAGIC. And Conan does not accept existence of it (despite it canonically existing and BOs whole point is trying to harvest it)

The final battle to destroy BO will be by Kaito (who`s father put a begining to this whole plot) and Akiko helping him.

It took a lot of work in MS ICE to get it to fit because Ran is shaking and the background is moving upwards, but I think it turned out decent. I have a lot of other stitches I'd like to make in the future too.

Yea, animated panning shots can be a real pain but if you do it right the outcome can be very rewarding. I've done a few like this one, and the Kaito one in the OP which I'll post in full next. Here I had to just accept the odd length of Conan's head due to it moving and draw a bit of the bottom of his mouth in.

I love his ego. It's just enough to be charming in its own way without being way too dickish. I remember seeing people watching the dub as it aired in America thinking he was a prick but he wasn't really one at all. I will never not be amazed at how many Americans here can completely oversee something in a character. Shinichi isn't a prick, he's a cute nerdy teen with an ego that can be kept in check so he stays faithful. The best way to handle a protagonist with an ego in my opinion.

I wonder what it was that made Americans think Shinichi's an asshole. I never watched the dub so I don't know what changes they made to his character. Translation and localization is a tricky business and a lot of nuances don't travel well cross-culturally.
I love Shinichi's ego too; instead of being assholish, it comes off as a preternatural level of confidence that evokes magnetic charisma and sexual appeal beyond that of any normal teen boy. His loyalty to Ran brings him down to earth so he isn't just some stock chad superhero. It shows that he's capable of falling head over heels in love and of experiencing the vulnerability that comes with it. He has a big heart that lets him empathize with others, even with murderers. There's just a richness of feeling to his character, something that's hard to put into words.

Oh yes. I can't wait to get to the episodes where he reverts back to his older body again. He looks so hot when he's panting and feverish. The anime used to draw him with a more mature look with broader shoulders back then too.

I think it had to do with him not being emotive over someone dying. I can't remember if they made it worse in the dub or not compared to the sub, when Ran was crying near the end in the dub he said "aw Rachel you'll melt away", she calls him heartless and he says he has a lot of heart but can't let the job affect him, and she says maybe he should. I can't remember if he made a joke originally. I know Jerry Jewell delivered his lines really well and never sounded like an asshole.

One would think that the US audience would have watched enough cop/mystery shows to know the detective usually doesn't get emotional over the cases he solves unless they're personal in some way, and that the first episode was clearly not the first case that Shinichi had worked on. Checking the dub now, I see they also left out his line about "mangled bodies" at crime scenes. That really would've triggered some sensitive viewers I bet.
Americans can be weirdly oversensitive to certain things. I live in the US too but I don't really understand the mentality of people here when it comes to a lot of things.

I hate to admit it because I love the series so much but yea, the newest designs are really bland looking in comparison. A lot of subtle or not subtle differences between Conan and Shinichi were lost when everything became the same kind of edge as each other. It just feels like they stretched Shinichi's face and made it wide. Not fat, but wide. Conan and Shinichi used to clearly be two different designs, and I mean they still are but fuck man sometimes they're just way too similar. I think the manga didn't go as far as the anime with the style changes. I'm not sure why the anime staff decided to keep going but I guess they wanted to be ahead of Aoyama since his art was going on that path.

To be fair if you only knew anime from using Yea Forums there's a good chance he managed to miss Conan threads. I mean they've picked up recently but there used to be good breaks between threads, like months. Just finished episode 43 of my Conan marathon (though, it's more like a series of marathons, every sunday or saturday I just watch from 10 to 13 episodes in a row as if it was 1 cour anime), never watched it as a kid as I don't think it ever aired in my country.

Surprisingly what made me realize why Conan is good is Conan Kidnapping case, it starts out almost like a joke with Conan and viewer believing it's going to be an impostor case, but the episode went on ahead taking itself seriously. But in the end what really salvaged it is that unlike most shonen shows it didn't pull any punches and actually legitimately showed us his real parents. And they have kind of characters you'd expect people to have that would produce Conan.

Maybe I was just watching or reading too much shit where writers get rid off parents by killing them or for literally no reason, but I liked that mangaka gave Conan parents and showed them to us. I can even buy the premise of them just allowing him fight his own fights with the organization.

I always found it pretty funny that the conan cases themselves are all based on real life logic and try to be as realistic as possible, all while the main character is a guy who was shrunk down into a kid and has impossible sci-fi-gadgets.

While Shinichi is definitely brainy and loves Ran deeply, I'm not sure if classy is a word I would use to describe him. His manner of speaking in Japanese is fairly uncouth and he slurs his words the way Kanto dialect-speaking males do when talking to their peers in a slangy way. He doesn't speak in a cultured or polite register the way Mitsuhiko does, for example.
I like his habit of wearing a suit jacket and bowtie outside of school though. It's so proudly uncool that it goes back around and ends up being stylish.

Every time I see that photo of Ran and Shinichi at Tropical Land I feel like Detective Conan is a tragedy.

That scene when Shinichi runs off and Ran reaches out to him but her hand falters, has that kind of feeling to it.

I would have liked more of a tragic tone in the story, because there really should be considering all of the things that happen. If only Gosho had let time pass a little more, say if several years had passed and Ran graduated high school without Shinichi. If only one year passes then it doesn't feel like Conan is losing out on as much as he should be. I don't want a full-on tragic ending but some bittersweetness would suit it well.

Why do TMS only remasters some episode for tv and not all of them for blu-rays? Remasters look so good, i wish all the old episodes looked that way.

I think they have a lot ready to go. What I don't have any idea of is why they're strictly for TV. They're not online for streaming, they used some upscale trick for the old episodes on Bluray instead of the remasters TV gets, and if it weren't for the people recording them and setting them up in torrents, they'd never be viewable again even for people in Japan (unless they DVR'd them)

Another issue with them sticking with just airing them on TV is the edits, they're edited for time and sometimes for the content like the head falling beside the kids in episode 1 being removed from the shot. If they were released elsewhere then they wouldn't have time constraints (which apparently got worse since these episodes originally aired) and they could get away with the more gruesome stuff since it wouldn't be on TV and the younger audience would have to actively hunt for it or buy it.

Because of this nonsense we may never get a remaster of the Mountain Villa Murder case with the not fat guy chopping up the woman into pieces. That episode unnerved me like other murder cases in the series haven't been able to.

At least the movie 4k remasters were actually put on Bluray.

I don't know what the lyric means aside from trying to be some poetic type and I guess referencing Shinichi's double life (or in general), but I have been listening to this OP a lot recently. It has that bittersweet kinda eerie tone to it but it's good, and the style is so damn comfortable. I absolutely cannot pick one favorite, but the ones I listen to the most are that one, Nazo, Doki Doki, Hane, Shodo, Truth, Mawashite, and the newest one which deserves a better video then stock movie maker effects.

I feel like Mune no Doki Doki despite being the overused choice is as pure as it gets. Truth is cool and hype. The song in Thrill Shock Suspense is nice but what really gets my attention is the colors and style of the animation, so awesome. Conan dancing never fails to get a smile out of me.

There are less EDs that I listen to often. Mainly the first bunch and Sadame off the top of my head.

I doubt it. The little boy facade is just an act for him that drops really quickly without him meaning it, evinced by how he goes into his "adult Conan" voice in front of Ran all the time. Once he gets his permanent cure I think he can go back to his alpha self given some adjustment time.

Oh I forgot Feel Your Heart, such a great beat. I really hope it gets a remaster one day, there's so many dark scenes that would really benefit from being brightened up, I was surprised what was actually there in Nazo that you couldn't see in the regular copies. I believe everything on the right is from Giri Giri Chop which isn't such a bad song either, and their frantic visual effects and variety of them is at least a better way to make a full montage OP than what we have with the current OP. The shot of Ran was also used in what I think was the Everlasting Luv (another good song) OP for the first episodes remasters where it was set to the song but had unique video showing old scenes of OPs.

With these also being posted it makes me realize I can't think of any OPs I don't like, just ones I like less than others.

I enjoy it in that it's kinda like Conan with a hint of Lupin III in concept. Mainly in that the protagonist is the grandson of a famous literary character.

That being said though, I prefer the original Kosuke Kindaichi stories. Or at least the adaptations and one novel that got translated.

I'll probably give all of it a shot eventually. I'm getting pretty close to being caught up with Conan.

I read some of the Kindaichi manga a long time ago, and one of the LNs was the very first novel I ever read in Japanese. But I couldn't get into the series because Hajime is such a jerk and didn't have any charisma to make up for his many character flaws. In my case, I read stories like DC more for the characters than the mysteries, and I couldn't help comparing Kindaichi to Conan unfavorably because I didn't like him nearly as much as an MC as Shinichi.

Given the similarity of the two properties, I think it's something of an inevitability for the two to be compared. And I have to agree with you that Shinichi has much more charisma. Although, I never really thought Hajime was that much of a jerk while reading the manga...just kinda normal.But I may be blinded by the fact that I think Fumiya Sato draws some cute boys. Hajime included.

He does look way too big, especially his head. But then they usually draw him too small. The average 6yo Japanese boy is 116cm, so if Ran is 160cm officially, Conan should be much taller than her mid-thigh level that they tend to draw him as.
