Her parents were never terrible people or whatever, Mafuyu felt like she truly let them down and didn't think she had any right to go back to them, it was the same with her getting on the ice. She felt like she didn't have the right anymore. Her parents really missed her if her mothers reaction is anything to go by.
It wasn't Hino-chan but Nariyuki extreme efforts to help her which made her go and catch him, feeling extremely grateful for all he's tried to do for her.

They seemed pretty angry when she decided to stop figure skating and pursue being a teacher, but I guess it was more of a heat of the moment thing.

I'm kinda glad that it's not such a big deal anymore, because they seem a lot more like normal people rather than being anime tropey parents who hate her guts. I also suppose Miharu being the figure skater also helped with them coping with Mafuyu's choice

The only problem I had with the arc is that it was too long. The 5 chapters had some dragging.
