Hokuto no ken is good, part 2 is awful.

Dragonball was pretty good then Z came and it lost all that made it so great and became trash. HnK has a badass MP, cool fighting techniques unlike DBZ, and it got really good after Shin was beaten

DBZ is still better than everything that came after Raoh. DBZ is not trash, It's not as good as pre-Saiyan Dragon Ball but it's still great. Are you telling me that Vegeta and Frieza arcs are trash?

Ken's gratness comes from involuntary humour. It only works if you don't take it seriously, otherwise it's a shit anime/manga.

If you're only going to do one watch the anime, because it has a spectacular soundtrack and amazing voice acting. I'd still recommend the manga though

I dunno. All the soap opera tropes thrown in kinda put me off. You know, long lost siblings, amnesia, love triangles, etc.
It got to the point where the MC was literally powered by angst. So, I enjoyed DB's less drama oriented plot more.

DBZ in its worst was way better than HnK in its best. Hokuto no ken is massively overrated because of "Muh manliness" bullshit when you have real manly and soulful stuff like ashita no joe or Slam Dunk

The underlying message of Fist of the North Star about the struggles against destiny is much better than anything character based like in Dragonball.

It really, really wasn't . Anime FoTNS before part II>DB, but that was it. In regards to manga, DB was pretty much FoTN's coup de grâce in many senses. I love Hara's art and all, but Toriyama and Otomo set a standard for paneling as sequential visual story-telling in manga that his stiff posing and so-so composition simply couldn't match. Aesthetic DB clones replacing aesthetic FoTNS was just the sign of times changing.

We need a HNK remake. I won't deny that the original has some strong points (mainly the ost and amazing voice acting). But it's about time we got a strong remake that introduces a new generation to this franchise.

Both Dragon Ball and Hokuto No Ken both had the same problem - they were so well-received that the stories went way past what the authors had originally intended so they had to keep making new stuff up all the time. Why is one so incredibly popular to this day and the other lost to the annuls of obscurity?

Not him, but Goku's constant quest for self-improvement and him being a selfish asshole aren't mutually exclusive, and being a good person is very relative to your moral framework. Goku's work ethic and dedication supersedes simply being good in many said systems.

One possible explanation is that HnK's artstyle is simply a relique while Toriyama's has a certain atemporal quality to it, but I also think DB's immediate accessibility has allowed it to survive almost indefinitely, for better or worse. DB also has a more grandiose feel to it since there's all kinds of crazy shit happening in that universe at all times lime space-opera tends to do, while HnK is more personal and wouldn't go anywhere without Ken.
