It was bad at first, but steadily improved the longer it went on. a week ago I caught up to the manga, so glad I gave this series a chance, cause it's legitimately hype at this point.
As for the threads, it's chill cause the story is always going somewhere and series like bnha attract all the fujoshits, while based Tabata continuously pushes hetero ships to deter tumblr refugees from picking it up.

Yeah, Black Clover starts off by throwing so many shonen tropes at you that it's almost impossible not to compare it to other series that have already done them.

The pacing is insanely fast and the fights are legitimately amazing, almost always because it isn't some new power that the MC pulls out of his ass but teamwork and creative power usage that wins the day for Asta and co. Even though I went in with low expectations, I ended up finding my new favorite shonen.

A lot of people shit on Asta, but he's grown into a very solid protagonist. He has every shonen MC trope, but he actually works hard and backs up his shit with effort over empty speeches. Plus the kid is pretty damn inspiring because he's a magic cripple who never gives up and accepts everyone has his equal. I don't think he grew on me until the kidnapping arc where he found a good balance between staying calm in combat and going wild.

What I like about this series is how it applies "Never Give Up" in practical ways. If you don't have magic? Get fit. If you can't defeat an enemy, then come up with a plan involving all of your friends to topple them. Do you want to become the Magic Emperor? Put some fucking results and hard work in. While BC has idealistic messages, it handles them with a sense of realism.

Basically, it's okay to have a dream... But just have realistic goals and put forth the effort to reach them.

Yeah. I know BNHA/BC comparisons are done to death, but Asta is infinately more inspiring than Deku. While both of them start off powerless in their respective universes, Asta's disability doesn't go away. In fact, it's almost similar to Daredevil in how he turns his disability into his greatest strength. No other person could wield the weapons he does. His 5 leaf grimoire didn't pick him because he was deemed worthy or special in any sort of way; it picked him because he's the only person who could ever utilize it, and therefore the only person who would ever grow to the point where the demon locked inside could try to possess him.
All of Asta's victories are his own merit. Even the fight against Ladros only went the way it did because he was able to fight off possession from his own grimoire.

I'll make it very simple and clear: Black Clover is really worth a watch. It's just entertaining and visually impressive, exactly what it was meant to be. Just keep this in mind that it's an battle shounen so don't go looking for an overstuffed complex story. It's just a fun action series that introduces us to a spunky young kid, played brilliantly by Gakuto Kajiwara. I became an instant fan hearing him yell his lungs out, something he manages to pull off with ease. Watch Asta in the action sequences and there's no way you can't be impressed. Junichi Suwabe as Yami is as awesome as always, it's just that his character feels even better and refined than what we've seen. Yuno is also quite good, and so are Noelle and Luck. But the one character that ultimately steals the show is Gauche, the siscon. Some of the sequences involving him are so hilarious that it was really difficult to stop laughing. Visual effects are excellent, and the 1080p viewing just elevated them. And since it's most importantly an action series, every single action sequence it delivers is impressive, especially the character acting. I would call it one of the major highlights of series. Cinematography in certain portions is really impressive. Humor, like any other Shounen Jump series, is top notch and really manages to make you laugh. Asta has a simple-looking origin story presented and executed in a terrific manner. The directors have done a great job with the characterization of Captain Marvel, and that is what makes everything in the film seem so good. The pace is brisk, gore is minimal to no, and there's nothing unsuitable for kids. I'd definitely recommend watching Black Clover to anyone who likes swords and sorcery or is simply a fan of battle shounen.. You'll love it if you want to be entertained. The last episode also does answer some much-asked questions, and that should be the reason enough for you to keep watching. Can't wait to watch Avengers: Endgame now!

Asta's consequences of being magic-less are always a thing no matter what he does. He constantly faces discrimination by nobles not just because he has no magic but also for being born a peasant.
People always bring up how Anti-magic is overpowered. Sure the concept of a sword that cancels out the power system is overpowered in and of itself, but Asta himself with the sword is not overpowered because the sword's potential is limited by him being magic-less.
Plus there are numerous advantages that magic users have over him, like for example how they use Reinforcement magic to increase their strength, defense, speed and senses (pic related). Reinforcement magic is one of if not the most important techniques that characters use to protect themselves. Asta can't use any of that. He has to rely all on his own natural, physical capabilities. The fact that Asta has not won a single major battle by himself so far in 200 chapters is evidence that he isn't overpowered.

Not to mention as BC continues abstract magic types start popping up like "word magic" which Asta cannot physically cut through with his sword to nullify like he can with tangible magic types like fire or water magic. Tabata constantly comes up with good challenges for Asta that never feel contrived.

I don't think the demons/devils will be exclusive to any particular region, because similar creatures exist in different mythologies. They are a problem for all of humanity to struggle against that sort of unifies the setting by tying all the different regions together.

The concept of 'word power' is also a Jewish thing. Kabbalah magic would be a better name for it.

All this talk about Anti-magic being the strongest thing in the world really rubs me the wrong way. It's not. Multiple opponents used the ability to fly (common to most if not all people with magical ability) and just stay out of the way of Asta's swords while pelting him from afar. Others used the fact that Asta is just a human being who eventually gets tired from cutting so much magic that he'll eventually get overwhelmed. There's just so much you could do when Anti-Magic, in the case of Asta, is primarily a defensive mechanic due to his inability to approach an enemy (except for when they're distracted, as he has no magical energies for them to sense). Touching a beam of magic doesn't instantly cancel out the beam, it just stops it where the sword is hitting. This was illustrated in the first chapter where he almost cut Magna's fireball which would have incinerated him if he did. Mana zone is insanely strong against him as well, because he can't cut out the entirety of the enemy's mana zone with just one slash, while the enemy has freedom of movement and heightened physical abilities and spatial recognition. Every time Asta gets close enough for a meaningful hit, it's almost always because the enemy is distracted while fighting someone who's also threatening to him.

Asta's tools and abilities are mostly defensive as well. Ki allows him to sense attacks, allowing him counterattacks unless the enemy is far away and just shooting at him. His strength and stamina can't help much if he can't approach the enemy, so he keeps them at bay while watching for a decisive strike. Black form can only do so much when usually the burst of speed towards the enemy, for a surprise attack, typically follows a straight line. He NEEDS other people to fight with him by virtue of how he is and the abilities he was given.

That doesn't make sense in the universe of Black Clover.

Heart can be Byzantine Empire based and Spade being winter is Russia, Carthage.

Anti magic isn't even that overpowered, it's just an equalizer.

I don't think there have been any references to Russian mythology, just the valkyries. Spade makes more sense as the Nordic faction while Diamond is Eastern European or Balkan.

Considering that in the first arc/saga all the enemies ended up eventually being tied to the elves in some way, I wonder if the enemies of the second saga will all be related to the demons. For example we know that Morris is the big bad causing all the problems in Diamond, but it's possible that he could be possessed by a demon or perhaps collaborating with one. The demons corrupt 4-leaf grimoires into 5-leafs, so perhaps Diamond's experiments are aiming to artificially create the diamond equivalents to a 4-leaf grimoire by enhancing them with magic stones?

Morris being possessed is a big possibility.
But I don't know what a demon would get out of an artificial hybrid.

It depends on what the 4-leaf grimoires actually are. It's said that luck dwells in the fourth leaf but we don't know if that's to be taken literally or if there's something else to it. So far it seems to me that the 4th leaf simply bestows its holder more power, so Diamond may be trying to achieve that artificially through the magic stones. It would be great for the demons since instead of having to wait for those chosen by the 4-leafs they could just mass produce them and it would also benefit Diamond by strengthening their military.

I get the feeling that Tabata might have messed up the climate a bit since Raquey was very warm compared to most of Clover even though it's not even to the south of places like Hage. Clover's not even that big considering it took Asta like 3 days to walk from Hage to the capital which is almost the entire diameter of the kingdom. Heart must be downright tropical if that kind of distance is enough to affect the climate.
