I would except amazon doesn't ship to my country anymore since they instilled a shittier local version of amazon and anywhere I theoretically could buy it overcharges so much that its no longer worth it to buy as a product, not to mention the potentially low quality translation

How dare he

>Machimaho: I Messed Up and Made the Wrong Person Into a Magical Girl! artist Souryu personally asked for English readers on Twitter to purchase the official English translation published by Seven Seas.

>"I have a favor to everyone in the English-speaking world," they wrote. "My Manga 'MACHIMAHO' is officially translated version published. Please purchase an official book, not an unofficial one you translated without permission. You can purchase on Amazon."

>Souryu interacted with readers on Twitter, urging against the use of scanslations as a whole.

>All manga are entertainment, but for authors it is the result of work for life. If you feel appreciated by the contents of a manga, please do not put out anything but official ones. This is the desire of all

(You)
>even if you knew my manga by it, I can not tolerate the piracy itself. However, it is appreciate for you to purchase it officially.

>Manga is not free and also textbook isn't too. unofficial things is illegal because they are our job.
>Think about it. If your job sells something goods, things are being thrown away by free like stolen from you.

>He actually thinks I'm going to buy this heap of garbage for 10 dollaridoos.
He should be thankful he's getting free publicity from this. Also.

>Relying on western market for income
Is he that broke?

And how the fuck he thinks readers got to know his shitty manga in the first place?

I'm already collecting all Mahou Shoujo manga I can get my hands on. I have high hopes for this series.

Maybe we'll get to see an anime adaptation at some point.

I bought two different manga series before. Both got cancelled and the final volumes were never released.

I'm never buying manga again.

Honestly this. Without scanlations, I would never know about this or the one set in the Gyaru High school.
He did a lot of H manga stuff? Maybe through that?
I'll probably buy the Japanese version. I'm not supporting garbage translations.
I like it, but I've seen some really awful official translations, compared to their scanlation counterparts. Seven seas also drop translating stuff ( especially light novels)
It's odd. In Japan, volumes are like 5/6 pounds so 8 dollars? Unfortunately, you get cut content, or they twist the narrative. So you get altered / less content for more money

Anyone here real otaku with an anime/manga/figure collection? From my knowledge only 1/2 oldfags are/or originals.

This, if the official translations are shit, I head to Kinokuniya in my city or just do it all online for JP.

>1 volume on Amazon
>Scans are way past that.

You're not really giving us a reason to buddy.

Attached: 1360470525685.png (720x410, 135K)

Never heard of the series but just from this pic the art style kinda reminds me of Nejimaki Kagyu more chapters fucking never

The Kinokuniya in my city doesn't even have Japanese books, it's a glorified gift shop.

Attached: 1552034966722.jpg (1112x1600, 333K)

Book Depository.

I'd rather read fan translations and buy the japanese version if i like it, instead of supporting some faggy western company that probably changes shit when they bring it over.

I'm in a country where that store doesn't even exist. We have Muiji and that's it.

>Translator pussied out and dropped it.

Attached: 12341615613514.jpg (355x369, 83K)

That artstyle looks awful. Why would I?

Nope. Until they start charging their books fairly to different regions with lower purchasing power like how Steam does with their games, it's a luxury I can't afford. Just to give you an idea, I can buy 7 volumes of printed localized manga compared to 1 official digital English release or a nice steak dinner.

Attached: 1392446588235.png (1070x848, 583K)

who? what manga?

It looks fine in Black and White.

Attached: x6.png (1125x1600, 1.07M)

>kinokuniya
godbless knowing nip and also living in asia

It's never gonna happen because retailers want their margins.

>chikafags scanlator
die

Attached: x22.png (1125x1600, 798K)

Fuck that chink motherfucker. I didn't even know that manga existed but now I'm gonna illegaly download it and shit all over it on an imageboard!

when I buy I do directly from Japan.

I would prefer to give the money directly to the author, but that's the second best option

user...this isnt good, theres pixiv artist putting out superior works for free right now.

He already did it says it right there even.

Attached: 1385198875803.png (750x564, 435K)

Autism.

Yeah but it's not bad either. It's also translated.

And I hope it stays that way, can't see myself ever quitting piracy while these cutthroats middlemen are still around.

I'm sure the author would be fine with you buyng the JP version instead.

We were also getting a chapter translated a day now we have to wait for 2019/08/13 for the official version to even catch up to the fan version.

Attached: 1460343837994.png (448x595, 193K)

>real otaku
no. Kill yourself
>with an anime/manga/figure collection
yes. I have a bunch of JP LN's and a few figures. still in the single digits (for now)

Only Spanish, English barely made it past 27.

>manga in burgerland = $11-15 / volume
>manga in nipponland = $5-6 / volume
>manga in seamonkeyland = $1-2 / volume
>people outside nipponland have to pay for burgerland price + shipping + tax if they want to read manga legally because it's often physical only
>author believe they will
hmm.
Why can't scanlators just say "lol no" and continue scanlating? like that other mahou shoujo manga that was localized by seven seas as well, yet still getting regular releases.

Attached: 1523154701643.jpg (300x452, 39K)

Same. bought all of Bleach for a rushed 'ending'. 74 books. Incomplete.

Spanish is up to volume like 5 or 6. There's like 10 chapters a volume and the fan translation is at chapter 25. While the English version of volume 3 comes out on 2019/08/13.

Can someone post sample page from official release? Seven Seas usually have atrocious typesetting.

>author wants people to purchase the official version instead of pirating it
Wow, what a strange and controversial opinion.

Attached: 1344921800727.png (372x459, 167K)

Here's the big event that will happen in 2021 when the english volumes catch up.

Attached: magical.png (1055x1500, 622K)

without scanlations, Manga would be much harder to consume. I buy manga, mainly due to scanlations. yes sure its pirating. but without scanlations you have o rely on companies who don't translate faithfully and inject Sociopolitical narratives that don't have anything to do with the plot (looking at you dragon maid). let me ask you this does the official translation have beeps or the actual swear words?
Not to mention seven seas drop shit constantly. And I honestly doubt they will do the Gyaru high school, probably because of the name.
find some people never buy things and read. but you probably be surprised how many people do.

Woah what? Context?

Does jap mangaka not know how to make a patreon? Make one and ask for donations.

I woudn't be suprised if publishing companies prevent mangaka from doing that.

>buy localized releases
That's a big NO from me.

This. Not everyone appreciates reading chinese comics in their mother tongue, especially when it has limited vocabulary and sound off putting. While Japanese > English does have it's own of flaws, at least it's flexible when it comes to building sentences and sound neutral enough that it doesn't hurt your brain reading it out.

Attached: bahasa.jpg (850x1230, 432K)

I'm not gonna buy it out of spite anymore.
Any mangaka that goes hurr durr scanlations bad muh 1 download =1 lost sale is a complete and massive raging faggot.

there's one related to pixr though, and its in Japanese.

I'm a fucking neet, I wouldn't have bought it anyway.
Just gimme it for free you fucking rice shitter, it's my only pleasure in life.

As with every piece of media there are works worth purchasing and others that are only to read in your spare time for the giggles.

Guess where this manga falls into

is he still working on gyaru highschool or did that get canned

Neither

shit one that should be ignored

Who?

It is basically 2 jokes repeated Not sure how long he can spin it desu.

So they're realizing how important western readers are to their income? Good.

Have you noticed it's always shitty, marginal hacks and obscure fetishists who worry about baka gaijins stealing their profits?

It’s concerning when a mangaka is doing so poorly that they need to rely on the dollar and change they would receive from having their work published in another country. Sounds like he needs a new career.

This. I wouldn't mind buying manga so much if it was nip prices.

Nako is my favorite magical girl.

>it's often physical only

Digital manga has been a thing for like 10 years my dude

Even today a lot of translated manga is physical only.

the recent Mahou Shoujo Asuka is physical only.

So it's okay to buy from Amazon.com? I heard a couple of months ago, that Amazon was in trouble for the way it was treating it's employees, and I also heard that there was some kind of accident involving bear mace/pepper spray that sent some workers to the hospital. I think even South Park had an episode where they criticized Amazone.com. I was thinking maybe I should order anything that I need from Barnes and Noble, I've shopped at a Barnes and Noble store before when I was in San Diego. I can try and buy Manga and Anime from Barnes and Noble since whenever I try watching Anime on CrunchyRoll or AsianCrush, this asshole hacker always causes the stream to lag, freezing the video.

I forgot to ask, if I get a subscription for VRV, does that mean I also get to use CrunchyRoll? Or do I have to pay for both VRV and CrunchyRoll separately.

Sorry but this is 2018 and buying individual pieces of media is for boomers.

Instead of paying $10 a volume we pay $10 a month to have access to every piece of media content we want on streaming services.

Attached: 1494620680549.jpg (447x576, 101K)

Physical copies cause you to be less ADHD, you freaking geek.

and then that website close down and you lose everything because you don't own anything you buy. this happens more often than you think.

Manga are 6~10 euros in France.

>in Japanese, it's a title that belong to a Light Novel and doesn't really reflect what's in the story
>in English, it's translated word for word and not gaining any appeal for it
>in French, it's based and redpilled

Attached: magical-holy-shit-1-akata.jpg (600x850, 163K)

He told the guy that was doing translations for free to stop so that people would buy a manga nobody was interested in buying before the translations. What a moron.

How shit is Seven Seas anyway? I was thinking about buying Boogiepop.

holy shit

Scanlator said he was bored of doing this since it wasn't fun anymore. But him getting asked nicely to stop from the mangaka just made him quit. You can read his comments on mangadex.
That was like 1 volume ago lol. Based Spanish translators don't give a fuck.

>in French it's in English
Those silly euros got their languages mixed up, someone should tell them.

Its alright. The quality isn't as good as others but they usually at least carry a title until it dies.

Does such a thing even exist for manga in english?

CR, Fakku

It's not the first time amazon.de/Fox-Spirit-Tales-Sakuya-Amano/dp/3842044003/
For comparison amazon.com/Konohana-Kitan-Vol-Sakuya-Amano/dp/1427859469/

I lose nothing because I've already read/watched what I want whenever I want for a good price. Why would I want PHYSICAL MEDIA in the CURRENT YEAR cluttering up my house?

You mean the translation?

CrunchRoll, there are also various apps for reading manga that you can download from GooglePlay onto your smartphone, or if you have BlueStacks running on your computer. You still have to pay a subscription fee to unlock more manga.

It really depends on the author. Like many don't even bother unless its been already licensed in English or something and even then they might not bother.
This is a 'literally who' tier manga by the way.

Why are Japs so retarded about scanlations? The only one who doesn't seem to be is Akamatsu. When dealing with scanlations you need to realize that the number of potential readers is going from 0 to more than 0 who in turn might like your stuff enough to then buy it. It's nothing but a net positive.

That said it's kind of pointless because Machimaho only has like one or two scanlated chapters then got dropped because it got licensed.

Honestly the first volume is pretty fun and has nice art.

How do you even get Konohana Kitan there

No, I mean printing quality.
Trying to translate something as accurately as possible is a pretty intensive effort, I'm not expecting that kind of work from a LN publisher.

>faggy western company that probably changes shit
friendly reminder that one of their translators is a self-proclaimed SJW

Attached: b3d7c7977892bfcc137f4e895b180a17ecc96ac2bad7fa19605a80122d73d3b2.png (577x70, 12K)

Why are you replying to me

>CR
Terrible lineup
>Fakku
Porn, not manga.
I'll look into those apps on the play store.

Didn't realize that. I remember when the first volume got dumped on here back in December it was a case of only having one chapter and then dropped. Looks like someone picked it up in the last couple of weeks though.

What do you mean by that?

>Edition akata
Never heard of them are they good ?

also, if you read scans, you're demon scum

Attached: 6d099728674b80d9da7fcda21a42262314641afd926db5d19e745899449f9354.png (550x122, 17K)

Not bringing quality of the work currently being done into it, what seems like a reasonable adjustment for the price of a localized manga in the USA? The market is not the same as video games, they can't just swallow the costs of translation and typesetting.

Why are manga artists always so entitled?

Cancer.

The one I downloaded is the Shonen Jump app, another one is from Viz Media, which I must have had on my smartphone a couple of months ago, before I had to reset my smartphone to factory settings because the Facebook app messed up my smartphone.

Looks like CrunchyRoll has a separate app for their manga.

>I'm sure the author would be fine with you buyng the JP version instead.

Hurr durr the translatoer actually did that those fucktard

>not translating from japanese

Attached: 123456.jpg (640x480, 29K)

Regardless the region, I think a volume of manga should have the same price as the price of 1 average meal. Something that you can buy without thinking twice.

Being a demon is cooler than being a random human.

Read one chapter he has nothing to worry about i wouldn't even read this unofficially

He should be paying Yea Forums for bringin attention to this shit.
Many dead and unknown series were brought into the light here and gained popularity, hell noone even cared about gotoubun until it was dumped here.
Because of higher quality paper unlike the recycled toilet paper that japan uses.

Japan paper is pretty good, though.

>hell noone even cared about gotoubun until it was dumped here
This is bullshit. I didn't first hear about that manga here.

>spanish
wait so only spanish people are translating?

>Why can't scanlators just say "lol no"
Because attention whores and moralfags.

Si

>not having local manga publishers
>having to rely on mutts

Attached: look at that fag.jpg (1280x720, 495K)

>companies who don't translate faithfully and inject Sociopolitical narratives that don't have anything to do with the plot (looking at you dragon maid)
friendly reminder to boycott crunchyshit and failmation

most country's local publishers are all battle shounen shit. and maybe shoujo for university girls. also often prematurely discontinued because lack of sales.

bueno, no tengo problema con eso

Fuck off, normalfag

>Fakku
I subscribe to the Nyaa batch torrents.

How about Japanese publishers get their shit together first?
Almost all e-book releases have a shit-ass image quality in Japan. On top of that, they are just as expensive as the physical version.
Make a Japanese Netflix for manga, I will gladly pay for it. But instead they act like the internet is still almost non-existent.

This. I never buy localized cancer. Only import my favorites from Japan.

I can understand spanish, talk and read it but it is tiring to do so.

This. It is the fault of the Nip industry for being so incompetent at implementing digital releases. A deserved fate.

Honestly in Current Year + 4, with simuldubbing being a thing there's no reason for near simultaneous translations for manga to not be a thing either. It's not like it can't be done considering it's being done now for some WSJ stuff and Crunchyroll was able to do it when they had (still have?) manga they licensed. Why the fuck should I have to trek down to a Barnes & Noble and pay $13 plus tax or buy for the same price plus shipping on Amazon when the Japanese version is less money while waiting 3 to 4 months to get to the point where fan translations are at now which is still well behind where the series actually is at in Japan?

That's even assuming the series doesn't get dropped by Seven Seas due to lack of sales so what then, I should just not read something I like because the English publisher bitched out? And even more, if I'm paying for an English translation it better be good. Machimaho's is fine but the translation for Voynich Hotel fucking sucks straight up changing character names and ruining some of the better jokes and scenes; why should I pay for something that's inferior to the fan translation that came out years ago when the official translation actively brings down my enjoyment?

I've got zero issue with supporting the creators when I can and to be honest I'd rather just go the Patreon route or something since I know my money is going directly to them and not 95% of it going to publishers. But with English shit, the publishers need to step their game up. You're going to have people who will pirate regardless but if the English volumes were a few bucks cheaper, if translations were way more timely and if more effort was put into them more people would be willing to support the releases. It's all on the shitty publishers.

I think Watamote's the ultimate example of that. I want to say they were even worried about cancellation before Yea Forums found it. But Nico also seem cool and appreciative that people read their work however.

youtube.com/watch?v=UdbOhvjIJxI

LH pushed people were generally indifferent until .a. said they were slow and revealed they couldn't translate for shit
then people came because of the scan drama and the glory of Nino's feet.
It's a major factor in why it got so big in the english speaking world.

>insulting potential customers
Has he also pulled the "don't like it, don't buy it" card in response to criticism? I always love that shit. Nobody apparently taught these people that as that company's ambassador you shouldn't be telling people to fuck off, insult them for disagreeing with you, actively tell them not to buy your product because they're not the right kind of people and in general doing everything you can to drive away potential customers.

No, English publishers are trash who stretch out release as far as possible even though the scans are way past that. Official releases often never catch up.

They only lose one or a few customers, everyone else will buy their stuff.

nejimaki kagyu's author had another series, but too bad it got axed pretty early into its run

And now he has another series, this time with Danganronpa guy as the writer, and it seems it'll get the axe as well.

He's been quite unlucky despite his talent. I hope he lands a hit soon.

That's still lost money user.

Same. I love his art, but he's a meh writer.

$11 is nothing compared to the millions all the other customers will bring in.

I made a mistake, manga volumes sell for more than $11. I checked my copy of the Ghost in the Shell manga, the hardcover version I have is like more than $30 dollars.

>Please purchase an official book, not an unofficial one you translated without permission.
someone is actually buying printed out scanlations?

learn japanese. it's faster and better that way.

this
I remember some eastern european advertising for something where they literally traced over the Azumangas
it happens

I'll sell you my Japanese language textbook from college for a hundred bucks if you want it. I tried learning Japanese, don't have the discipline for it. Tried learning Tagalog, then I came to hate the Filipino people, also feared the electricity shutting off whenever I read with the lights on. But you, you don't have a hacker spying on you and messing with your electricity and technology, my Japanese language textbook will serve you better than it does me.

no

>I'll sell you my Japanese language textbook from college for a hundred bucks
>buying language books
>when internet exists

Attached: 21754.jpg (1280x720, 195K)

I also have the Kanji book if you want it. If you want to learn Tagalog instead, I can sell you my Tagalog language book and it'll be cheaper. However, I don't know how much useful Tagalog will be. It'll maybe help you get a job in the Philippines.

I rather buy the Nip version and read scans.

>he doesn't know the fact that people are willing to read a turd doesn't mean they'll buy that turd.
>he doesn't know what conversion rate is. where for every 100 people, only 3% on average will buy your product after seeing it. meaning that if the author gets 20k views on mangadex he'll only get about 200 people willing to buy his shit manga.
>he thinks anyone would know about his shit if it wasn't scanlated

I'm fine paying whatever as long as it's quality but most manga are shit, the protagonist is always dense, same characters I've seen a million times etc

How is this different from me going to a bookstore and reading it there?

Whats the difference between me reading a scanlation or reading a copy in the local library? I live in a well populated area and it has a manga section.

>the protagonist is always dense, same characters I've seen a million times etc

You don't buy manga for the "plot", you buy it for the art

Well, the difference is that libraries have been around for a long time, while internet piracy is still black magic for a lot of people.

I don't care about the art

Libraries require permission from the publisher.

Then 98% of the medium is wasted on you, congratulations

why? I can't enjoy a story? you must be very sad person.

if you watch manga only for art, then 95% of the medium is wasted on you.

>black-and-white scribbles printed on cheap paper
>you buy it for the art
Nigga what.

You yourself complained that most manga have shit stories, which is true. Yet that's the only thing you care about. That leaves you scouring for the 2% of material out there that's any good, while ignoring the main asset of the chiefly VISUAL artform. Which is pretty fucking dumb, if you ask me

true. nobody would've read Berserk and OPM otherwise.

>Libraries require permission from the publisher.

First sale doctrine says no

>release ebooks
>cost maybe 1USD less than physical
It's a joke.

what? where do you live?

I'm going to, because I enjoy it and I want the guy to have money. It'd be easier if he just set up a Patreon, though.

t-think of the cost of hiring scanning department!

Europe

>but apple from said store
>plant seed and eat my own grown apples
>he is stealing my apples from said store

the continent of europe is big, lad.

which europe?

Even if I liked the manga I wouldn't purchase it exactly because of this comment alone.
Scanlation is the very reason manga is so popular in the West.

Your work will be held to higher standards the moment you ask money for it.
In short, few people would ever read this manga if they would need to pay money for it because it is not worthy enough.

I'm willing to pay for Berserk and many other great manga, but this one? NEVER EVER.

If you want money, then you need to make a product of quality to justify the payment.

>great

The answers to my question about VRV and CrunchyRoll. I have to get a CrunchyRoll gift card.

Machimaho is a good product though. I'd rather see people buying something like it than something like My 7 Quirksademia.

AT&T revamps WarnerMedia

>On October 22, 2016, AT&T announced an offer to acquire Time Warner for $108.7 billion (including assumed Time Warner debt). The proposed merger was confirmed on June 12, 2018, after AT&T won an antitrust lawsuit that the U.S. Justice Department filed in 2017 to attempt to block the acquisition

1) Time Warner/Warner Media owned Turner, WB, and HBO

2) Turner had CN, TNT, TBS, TruTv, TCM, CNN, Turner Sports

3) Warner had the Warner stuff you know

4) HBO was HBO

5) The TNT, TBS, TruTV is merging with HBO
Turner Sports and CNN and are now being called Warnermedia News and Sports

6) Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Boomerang TCM, Otter Media (VRV, Crunchyroll, Rooster Teeth, etc) is also merging with Warner to become Warner Kids and Young Adults.

7) The Yea Forums aspect is the Warner Kids and Young Adults part. I don't know if that means they are just gonna merge Warner Animation and Crunchyroll or not. But there should be changes to the management of Crunchyroll at least.

animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-08-07/at-t-buys-out-crunchyroll-otter-media/.135210

>AT&T announced on Tuesday that it has acquired all of Otter Media, the joint venture it previously co-owned with The Chernin Group. Otter Media is the digital holding company that operates Crunchyroll's parent company Ellation, among other video services.

>AT&T plans to fold the subscription, advertising and content company into WarnerMedia, the new content company created after AT&T's acquisition of Time Warner in June.

Crunchyroll might not exist in the future and could even lose its brand name.

Attached: ConsidertheFollowing.jpg (600x600, 32K)

piracy is (in part) a service problem.

Hopefully we get back the comfy fansubbing days.

AT&T the highest ranking boss of Crunchyroll already revealed what they think about anime.

They consider anime lumped into 2 categories: Kids and Young Adults.

This is a troubling sign.

Makes you wonder if they will just make Crunchyroll only license shonenshit and ignore everything else.

I wouldn't be confident of the Young Adults part either. Sure we know anime are aimed at Japanese adults too but what AT&T thinks about young adults can be completely different.

thank you, reddit. now fuck off.

There are still Netflix, Funimation, Yahoo View, AsianCrush, TV, Hulu and other services where I can watch Anime.

>watch manga

Attached: 4965-rip.png (1064x800, 991K)

>Crunchyroll might not exist in the future and could even lose its brand name.
you say that like it's a bad thing

Maybe he has dyslexia, I remember a review of a HALO comic book that was nothing but images and no dialogue.

...

Oh yeah, I forgot, that hacker shithead is constantly fucking with the stream whenever I try watching Anime, so if there is no more CrunchyRoll, problem solved.

>not an unofficial one you translated without permission
Pretty sure I don't need permission to read something, I'm not fucking Chinese.

Cool be sure to sub the 40+ series per season or kill yourself.

There was an old episode of Gamespot TV or X-Play where Morgan Webb went to an Anime Convention to try and figure out the symbiotic relationship between Video Games and Anime, whether both were intertwined or separate. HALO also had an Anime anthology movie, just like Robot Carnival (you can check it out over at AsianCrush), The Dark Knight with Gotham Knights, or the Dante's Inferno Anime movie where I think different Anime studios worked on different parts of the movie. Also the Matrix had an Anime anthology movie.

Sure dude. It will be just funi or something.

That's gone for good user.

I'll wait for a Barnes and Noble store to open up here on Guam. The one I saw over at San Diego, a couple of years ago, also at a very large DVD/Blu-Ray section. Dude, did you know that they sell DVDs and Blu-Rays over at the local grocery store? No one does that over here on Guam. Americans on the mainland U.S./North America have got life real good over there. Even the groceries are cheaper in California than it is over here.
