Since it's international woman's day, today we're reading the beautiful tale of a sad, genderless rock with a dumb name and how she emancipated herself from old ties, fell in love with a dashing prince, discovered herself as a woman, got married and became the Princess of the moon.
I'll post the relevant pages from chapters 67 to 76 of the houseki manga.

Also thank Rohiniposter for the OP art
The whole thing is 86 pages so it'd be good if you'd bump the thread if you're reading
I don't fully endorse this romance shit but it's entertaining to say the least
Not to mention that this chapter with the Ghost thing is quite heartbreaking
I remember the thread when the spoilers hit back then leaving everyone horrified
The inclusions in the eye aren't technically touching the rest of the body because of how the eyeball works so how does that work
I don't buy this in full at all but poor Craig
Another thing I forgot is to thank PAS for the translations
Ichikawa and her fetishes
Look at how touchy Aechmea is already and how enticed Cairo is when he definitely hated being touchy-feely with anyone
It begins.
I never liked Ghost that much from the start to be honest
Maybe it was the chuuni sickle, maybe it was those dumb long tufts
>those announcement texts
Pretty sure that no one could foresee Karen from those
Rare page not featuring Crabporn but we learn something so I included it
Fucking hell is this offputting after the last scene
>framed picture of shoes
>uguu~
Cute Kima
>that vagina imagery
Really makes you think
Look at all those fucking outfits
Ichikawa you madwoman
That reaction in the top left panel is pure Craiglist
NTR time.
>that expression when you did nothing wrong but you weren't supposed to be there either
Relatable
>eating junk food and watching tv until you realize it's morning
Living the life
Reminder that we still don't know what Sutranika's supposed to mean
>his left arm
Food for thought
Anyway Karen basically disappears for an in-universe month or so
That's when she comes back.
>covered left arm when the right one is not
Hmmmmm
Also she has a Vajra now
I'm going with the redrawn version found in the collected edition rather than the one from chapter 70 in Afternoon
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH
I LOVE PHOS!!!
Phos says
>Ca-
as in the first character for Chaingun's name
Phos gets NTR pretty hard
>Bortz retrieving his new gf
Oh, the last page says the same line
>so, you've collected those three
Such a nice princess caring for her subjects
And that's the last thing Parappa said so far
There were a lot of theories about Karen not properly explaining what happened
>tadaima_elephant.png
>those throbbing, veiny horns
Is that Appe or Cicada?
That's pretty sad
Except we're not reading Phos's story today so who cares lmao
the outfit isSO UGLY
I don't think I'll ever find those necks not retarded
You're just jealous you couldn't rock it like /ourprincess/ does
Yeah, that arm is definitely a replacement from when he had the mental breakdown in front of Aechmea.
The arm he lost then is what is given to him later.
>that was the last time they spoke as friends
Still, it's pretty amicable and it does bring some closure even if Karen's actions seem to tell a different story from her words
Greatest love story ever told
I'm not a disloyal ugly faggot with daddy issues so no, I couldn't.
The foreshadowing is all there
>breaks his arm in ch 67
>Aechmea operates him
>protect it with extra layers
>covered in the night raid
Minor thing but remember that
>treating those who are around you poorly for those who aren't there
is how Cairo came to existence because Phos thought of Shinsha in the fight with Lunarians and got broken so Ghost had to jump in
AROUND BLACKS
One day even you will find your prince who smells good like a summer night, is smart and shy, user.
You'll feel like a princess too!
Such a cheeky expression
Didn't someone bring up that he's not using >yome here but a word that's more along the one meaning 'housewife'?
That too
What did Ichikawa mean by that?
There'll be a couple of ugly-looking copy and paste to keep the flow from now on
>nuMorga broke himself quite hard and his white paste vanished too in ch64
>nuGoshe is having fun
That dog should get a name
But as is clear from this page, Karen is still getting used to how living things work, like this whole 'feeling physical pain' thing
>leeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaks
Spooky ghost in the reflection
Also the fact that Ghost-Cairn's arm was broken off on the forearm, while the one that Aechmea gave Cairn later, claiming that it was the one from 102 years ago, was broken off close to the shoulder. It's just a blantant lie.
>the dog placed itself in Aechmea's hoodie
kawaii
I wouldn't let myself be assfucked by the guy who raped and genocided my species just because he said "y-y-y-your eyes are brainwashing you."
Not even I am that stupid.
Well, at the point the chipping was over, Cairo still missed his arm from above the elbow, which is the reason why his new one has that length -so it technically *could* be reconstructed on the moon
But it's an obvious lie of course
>tfw everytime I tell myself 'not even I am that stupid' when trying to make up how something went on and I can't remember what I did, it usually turns out that I in fact am that stupid
All of this is nice and dandy, and shows how much Cragglepants is really being manipulated, but what is it leading to?
I can't believe you don't believe in pure love and can't recognize a nice love story of empowerment when you read one
Hell if I know
God Fosu is so fucking cute.
I want to kiss her!
I want to hug her!
I want to see her smile!
People have been theorising for ages now, but the likelihood is that Cairngorm is going to fucking die and we'll all feel sad because of how pathetically easy it was to manipulate him into this mess.
He's being constructed as the one gem who fully aligned with the moon, as to what that might entail I guess it'd be something that will antagonize Phos
Well, his 67-75 arc had to do with his self-perception and freedom -the arm gets snapped at the beginning, the arm gets grinded at the end, with the imagery of power and might right at the center with the Vajra and the bunny suit who he uses for the wedding too
Little thing of note: you know how the 7 treasures comes from the Pure Land sutra blah blah
The pure land is supposed to be covered in gems of course, but palms are also mentioned
>"Nothing gets me hornier than a snuggle and a wide view of the ground-up corpses of my brethren!"
Karen barely identifies as a gem at this point
Anyway it's surprising how the Cairmea stuff in these chapters reads better when deprived of anything else where the reverse is awful
Well maybe not really awful but everything leading to and following the night raid feels slow
>what the fuck dude
Something I can't really read is the vases and the grinders having the same design
Maybe it's Ichikawa being lazy or wanting to give the moon designs a coherent feel but it looks weird
The 'it's 100% manipulation' crowd can't tell me there isn't a self-affirming idea behind this page, otherwise there'd be no dramatic irony
And even without dramatic irony, it's hard to deny that Karen has been shown to have a degree of independence and manifest some positive traits
And there you have it
Undeniable proof that it's okay to sexualize the gems and being gay for a rock
Love trumps all, fuck the haters
Onward to the latest chapter
I wonder how moonies' respawning works really
Is it a concentration thing or not?
Listening is the secret to a good marriage.
>not being into dangerously young-looking girls
And here I thought Barbata was our guy
And that's it so far.
How does rereading just the Carin/Aechmea part feel? Is there something you noticed? Do you have a better opinion of it now?
Wow. Phos looks beautiful here.
Sapph-
Phos is always beautiful.
ACTUALLY that's not right.
Notice where the powder/paste skin stuff is here. It's high up. If they had reconstructed it from all the pieces chipped off Cairngorm 102 years ago, there would be no powder on it to begin with. If it was the original arm from 102 years ago, it would only be a forearm. (and the powder would, if anything, be where it was snapped off.)
But it's at the top, which means that the arm was snapped off there to begin with.
I'm not sure I follow. There's no paste in the page you quoted, only Craig's black arm.
Anyway let's post the detailed theory again
and 2
>sad
Hahaha no way.
paste.
I'm inclined toward thinking it's the possible rendition of the shiny section since we see from the next page it's a very angled one and it's hard to render
It's not the rendition of the shiny section. We can already see the shiny section of the surface of the arm, and the cross section is the part with red here. The part between those two is clearly covered in paste, as it also sticks out from the rest of the otherwise smooth arm.
I assumed that it's a garbage can for the moon men so anything thrown in gets turned to dust and it blows away or whatever
Man this is sad.
Is it?
I for one think Ichikawa is just presenting the situation to us in a neutral way, I doubt we'll ever get a 'real explanation' about the eyes or the arm but the manipulation is definitely there. Still, since usually in the manga change=good albeit hurtful, I want to see where Karen's wild ride is heading to.
Another thing I find interesting is how this whole deal has been a fresh take on something that was starting to become stale -that Tsukijin society looks like ours but it's eerie in-universe.
It was a shock when Phos got there first, but as the other gems followed him that novel effect started to wear off because after all it's just like our normal world. Seeing Karen's feminization, her outfits, the date, the marriage, the wedding party from the baffled gems' point of view served at least to keep reminding us of how weird it's supposed to be to them. Anyway earth chapter soon
>Still, since usually in the manga change=good albeit hurtful, I want to see where Karen's wild ride is heading to.
death
>Another thing I find interesting is how this whole deal has been a fresh take on something that was starting to become stale -that Tsukijin society looks like ours but it's eerie in-universe.
almost nothing about it was explained
we had 30 chapters with a big emphasis on facial expressions without any dialogue
no information about how ships work
no information about the crab people
NO PROPER CONVERSATION BETWEEN PHOS&SHINSHA
>pic
fuck me, that hurts.
The last time Ghost was seen.
The fanbase raging at these chapters.
I miss padparadscha.
If you're seeing ghosts you should talk to someone about that
>Phos finally acquires a wise mentoring figure he can trust
>immediately loses it
I had hoped Pads would at least shown once before the new trip to Earth but I guess we're going with 'he's lost it all'. Still, seeing Phos paying him a visit before leaving would've been nice.
We all hate this.
I miss Ghost.
so fix it man
you have the power to mend everything
I honestly don't. People complain about Antarc showing up just to die but we had actually seen his character and he was a good POV for the winterscape.
Ghost basically acted as a living plot point to introduce us to Lapis, be a foil to Antarc and Shinsha when we see Phos try to figure out the partnering up deal and then she dies in their first battle together. Everything interesting about Ghost is actually creating mirroring relationships and how she might or might not have influenced Cringeworm later.
Sure that's the point, being called Ghost and all, but a couple more chapters would've helped if Ichikawa wanted me to care
>no information about how ships work
Oh, you again? They work through the power of Buddhist imagery, as everything else in the manga. Look up "Raigo-zu" or Amida raigo.
>but muh science
Houseki no kuni isn't a manga that operates via sci-fi lore or ideas. It's entirely rooted in Buddhistic concepts and the sooner you understand it the better
Stop being mean to others, Phos.
Name 1 (one) memorable thing about Ghost that's not 'he sneaks up on people cuz he a ghost lol'
I don't want to talk to you.
rejected
rude
>people ask 'how can gems blush' every other thread
>no one wonders how and why they'd feel the instinct to yawn if they can't breathe
Maybe Phos will take Pad to the sea?
Ghost and Lapis are both characters we essentially only know about through their influence on others.
Lapis is Phos now, so that's fine but I still miss Ghost.
>yandere
>loves Lapis
>felt so guilty about Lapis dying that he dies for Phos.
Except that comparison isn't really good on Ghost since Lapis had all reasons for that being, you know, already dead before the story even started
Although I do hope that the anime does Ghost some justice, even if they took the Shinsha intermission scene from him already so I have a hard time seeing it
Oh I did not know that. That's pretty neat.
I'm thought Karen was referencing Antarc here. And maybe Ghost. How Phos is trying so hard to bring them back that he doesn't think about how it makes others feel and what kind of circumstances he drags everyone into.
Like "lets break sensei" time when Pads put him in his place.
Short OVA by studio Orange, the thumbnail girl looks a lot like Red Dia
youtube.com
Ghost was certainly interesting as a character, especially when they had that back and forth with Cairo at times, but I can't help but not like this arc because it feels like Ghost is treated as less than a person and more of a parasite.
Looks like a blowjob doll.
>pic
>not with Shinsha
Disgusting.
Yup, that's the obvious, go-to mention that Karen seems to have in mind, I just wanted to point out a nice coincidence, or parallel in a sense.
Even in his absence -or because of that-, this is probably the most exposure that Ghost has had since the time Craig gave Lapis' head up. I like that it makes you go back and reread everything with something obvious in mind that seemed to have escaped many, which is how fucked up the twins' relationship was. Also how Ghost describes his brother as a 'violent, brash, impulsive child' and he almost immediately becomes the responsible, laidback, reliable partner that Phos needs.
fucking adorable. Season three when?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I LOVE ICHIKAWA
>smiling girl is red diamond
Phos motivation was Antarc, not Shinsha. Shinsha is end game.
Cringe was probably also talking about himself, who felt that Phos was using him as an Antarc replacement.
>character becomes female
>immediately becomes emotionally distant, leaves you for a rich man, becomes moody and violent, blames you for stuff that happened a century ago
Where did she mean by this?
it means that i must save madoka!!!!
>blames you for stuff you haven't done for an entire fucking centuryo, and was also sorted out a century ago, and was explicitly stated through active communication that would never happen again, which it didn't.
Too real
what the fuck am i doing
>implying candycorn wasn't moody and violent literally the moment he got out of ghost
You'd have to do this six times over in houseki no kuni
When will the moon die?
>giant fragments orbit earth some freefall
>most of them are KT level others just drift into space
rip earth
did they use 嫁 or 妻? both of these are often how a husband refers to his own wife
>first interaction between Phos and Sensei
>SEVEN times
>no, six times
>ah, six
Imagine I posted that Phos edit of the comic with the 'one fear' t-shirt
I can't into moon so you tell me
who are you calling phos
Phos in a summer outfit!
I'm only now realizing that Shinsha literally never changed into a summer outfit
How emo can you get
nips used 妻 "tsuma" , which is "spouse, better half" so the english translation to "adorable wife" is fair...
I guess other user you mentioned was thinking of 家内 "kanai" which is "housewife" (literal meaning is "inside the house")
yome is just used for bride, not wife
