I suppose the anime is quite inferior to the manga.

You'd be surprised how much damage an animal can sustain before dying, and while there are some artistic liberties being taken, the scene is believable enough to be interpreted as shown.

Yes, the anime Director wanted to (in his own words) make a Salaryman comedy. He just tossed in some chapters from the manga. The anime isn't bad as a stand alone, but the manga is the better product.

No clue, he said it during a interview in the extras on one of the DVD's. I haven't watched the interview in a number of years. It just stuck in my mind as a WTF moment

It was one of his first works. You could call it his learning stage.
