Could you withstand the full force of his 'bolg'?
Why is Scathath such a cunt?
When your as old as her, you just stop caring.
What's the difference between Irish and Britbongs?
Are you...
What language is this written in?
...ready for his noble phantasm?
Ate hundrit yeers a anglish up-russian, muh laddie.
Brittish
Best dog.
whether they're the ones receiving the carbomb or not
I recognize that bolg
This guy walks into the holy grail war and slaps yout masters ass. What do you do?
>Misses
Bravo Nasu. *CLAP* *CLAP* *CLAP*
>tfw your guaranteed hit trump card that is supposed to shank your foe before you actually do the shanking never actually works because the plot demands you never actually win any fights conclusively
What about this bolg?
So, any servant with high enough luck can fucking dodge gae bolg anyway, Bravo Nasu.
*jobs*
What an introduction to a character.
>my attack never misses!
>*misses*
Really sets the tone for him for the rest of the franchise.
Potentially, yeah. If there's a big enough difference between Lancer's luck HAHAHA and the target's then the attack may not properly take effect. Keep in mind that it still about crippled Saber with the damage it did inflict, but it didn't no-sell her like it would've had she had a lower amount of luck.
He redeems himself a few times, but Gae Bolg's thrust attack never manages to be taken seriously again. The thrown version is still pretty sweet at least.
>Gae Bolg's thrust attack
I really like this image
>Keep in mind that it still about crippled Saber with the damage it did inflict, but it didn't no-sell her like it would've had she had a lower amount of luck.
Yeah people seem to forget this part a lot. Yeah it is funny that Cu hypes up his lance only for it to fail in its exact role, but he still hits her and he could have just kept doing it if not for Kirei fucking him constantly.
Shiki had the right idea
Which makes you wonder why Saber was hyped up as the strongest class when Lancer nearly curbstomps her at full health and magical energy (keep in mind she never gets back to that level of power for the ENTIRETY of the VN save for the brief period in UBW where she's Rin's servant or saber alter) so basically the only thing keeping Lancer from being absolutely absurd power levels wise is the story itself.
>basically the only thing keeping Lancer from being absolutely absurd power levels wise is the story itself.
And E-Rank Luck.
Because of big sword beams. That she can't really use for much of the VN. I mean its a really powerful beam.
The E rank luck itself doesn't really contribute to his deaths
>Fate: loses to gilgamesh (like many, many other servants)
>UBW: literally killed with a command seal
>HF: Eaten by the shadow
The luck itself doesn't actually do much outside of nerfing Gae Bolg but even then if he can still win fights against the strongest servants with it, its not too much of an issue.
This, luck in nasuverse is basically saving throw in D&D.
IS THIS LEFT TO RIGHT OR RIGHT TO LEFT
STRAIGHT ANUS
Seriously. Even if his Gay Bulge misses more than anything he could just spam it until victory. Hell it's even explained that it's a really mana efficient NP.
Because class-wise, the Saber class is supposed to have the highest base stat parameter requirements on top of supposedly being the class for master warriors with legendary swords. On paper, this sounds pretty good and it's the reason Rin calls the Saber class the best shot for winning. But in practice, a whole lot more goes into a fight than just rare stats. Servant skills, compatibility, and Noble Phantasms decide the result of a battle more often than not. While Saber has probably the strongest offensive NP out of any servant in the 5th war (not counting Gilgamesh), she doesn't have a whole lot of utility outside being a strong beatstick even when she's in top form. She's a skilled swordfighter whose trump card is a big laser. Meanwhile Lancer has a ton of utility in his Rune Magic, survivability thanks to Battle Continuation and Protection from Arrows, and both an incredibly mana-efficient NP that can outright kill anyone without god-tier luck and an incredibly powerful NP with a wide range. In terms of rare stat parameters, he's lesser than Saber, but he has so much more to him that it's crazy. The Saber class is basically a trap class like Berserker, except not quite as bad. At least the Saber class in theory gets you a powerful and skilled warrior with a legendary weapon. The Berserker class is another case of prioritizing raw numbers (but even harder) while also sacrificing utility along with sanity and any NP that isn't a brainless ability that requires thought to use. Of all seven classes, I'd say Lancer and Archer tend to be the best with Assassin being great if you're competent and don't get hardcountered by someone who can somehow detect them and Caster being great circumstantially.
>cucked by a trap with a magic shield and stabbed by a cosplayer. He also just has shitty luck all around.
Strongest lancer
Has this shit ever worked against anything that mattered?
Lancers in general have terrible luck
Like every other Lancer, he suffers from the curse of Lancer luck. I think his portrayal in CCC is better for his character, but he definitely gets a better showing in combat in Apocrypha. The Lancer class in general is full of powerhouses. I'd say Karna is probably surpassed by Enkidu based on the pure bullshit that is Enkidu's skillset, but they're definitely at the top. I'd also like to see Romulus appear in something as more than just a joke character considering he's actually really powerful on paper. It would also give him a chance to showcase more of his character than just talking about Nero or going on about Rome.
Gae Bolg, at least as far as regular Lancer Cu Chulainn goes, has the distinction of never actually having been successfully used to killed anyone without any catch. He was able to use it on his former master in Hollow Ataraxia, but it resulted in a double kill because she had her own special weapon that has the ability to reverse time and strike before her opponent fires their trump card. Naturally, since Gae Bolg hits before it's actually used, this results in a paradox that just kills both of them.
Propose a threesome
Don't you mean Scottish?
It's an Irish affectation you thick bastards
Brainlet here; Since I just finished Fate/Zero and UBW, I'll use this thread to ask this.
First, what exactly did the Grail propose to Kiritsugu as the method to save the world? It says it can only save the world through Kiritsugu's own methods and goes about it's "sacrifice the few to save the many" rant, but then it says he "needs only make the wish to bring his wife back and go see his daughter", to which he replies "there's no choice between two people and six billion", refusing the Grail. Was it going to kill everyone except him and his family? How is that saving the world? Isn't that the exact opposite of "sacrificing the few for the sake of the many"?
Secondly, how in the fuck did Archer survive getting killed by Gilgamesh in UBW? Yeah he gives off blue light of teleportation instead of the pink light of death, but still. He was nearly disappearing from lack of mana, had just been stabbed by Shirou AND by a ton of Gilgamesh's swords. Is there and explanation I missed for how he hanged around for another full day despite all that or was that just a retarded "twist"?
And lastly, why does Gilgamesh suddenly get ten thousand times less sexy between Zero and UBW?
Kiritsugu wanted world peace. If everybody's dead, nobody fights. If nobody fights, world peace achieved.
I mean I thought that'd be the JRPG logic behind the killing everyone thing, but then lecturing Kiritsugu on his methods beforehand was kinda pointless, as would be leaving him and his family alive since they could potentially repopulate and bring back suffering. Which is why I thought maybe I was missing something else.
Based Grail-kun
>what exactly did the Grail propose to Kiritsugu as the method to save the world?
The Grail is corrupted by Angra Mainyu and it will twist every wish into worldwide genocide. In this case leaving Kerry's family alive would means there's world peace, since they're the only ones left.
>how in the fuck did Archer survive getting killed by Gilgamesh in UBW?
He just did. It's kinda bullshit in the VN too but you never see him actually die so yeah.
>why does Gilgamesh suddenly get ten thousand times less sexy between Zero and UBW?
Worse outfit + change in artstyle
this is how the corrupted grail operates
youtube.com
Kits realized the Holy Grail was a monkey's paw and corrupted. HF's, or the 3rd movie, will explain why and how its corrupted.
So I wasn't dumb, the explanations were just disappointing? God damn it, I'd rather be dumb. Thanks though, mates.
>Lancer is useless because he keeps dying
Rude
I think left to right
Any potato anons know how this is actually pronounced? I imagine the "g" at the end is hard, but how's the "ae" pronounced?
>Tfw you realize he could've won the war if not for Kotomine's fuckery
Would be pretty hard against Herc
It's "guy bullg" with a hard g at the end.
Pretty hard, but not impossible. It would pretty much be a battle where he'd either have to gun for Illya as hard as possible and employ hit and run tactics or he'd have to bullshit some way to kill Hercules 12 ways through some combination of Gae Bolg's two modes and rune magic (which I can't see much way of happening). The former is much more likely to bear fruit.
Yeah but it also wouldn't be very Cu to aim for the loli.
By the time Kotomine betrays him Heracles was already dead
"Kotomine fuckery" sounds like it refers to him not working with Bazett in the first place
Why do the Irish spell everything wrong?
Yeah, it's closer to a tactic that Kotomine would force on him if anything. Cu was more interested in the thrill of it all to begin with, so trying to win by any means necessary isn't really his style. He just wanted a good honest fight. He'd probably enjoy fighting Herc for a while, but ultimately be unable to defeat him straight up. Cu's better at surviving and skirmishing than outright overwhelming opponents (not that he can't overwhelm a good deal of enemies), so Hercules who has an absurd amount of tankiness and raw power on top of a busted ability is kind of a bad match-up for him.
Pretty much everyone could have won the war if not for X, even Archer or Caster. Not really an excuse
Well, pretty much anyone could have won a regular war that didn’t have Gil or Herc if not for X.
Keep in mind that Artoria's luck (which is normally A+) was ranked down to B at the time. Against Saber at her best, GB may not have worked at all.
Worse than Enkidu, and arguably Scathach as well.
Saber is actually the biggest jobber in Fate. Literally the only fights she wins fairly are those in the Fate Route and Kojiro. Only reason she even won against Lancelot is because Kariya was dead. Every other fight she's in she completely jobs.
Based.
She """won""" against Iskandar and the big octopus, but I do agree with you
>jobs to sieg
>jobs to vlad
>jobs to gawain
>jobs to charlemagne
>jobs to arjuna
>jobs to cu alter
Even Gilgamesh isn't as big of a jobber as Karna is
> Literally the only fights she wins fairly are those in the Fate Route and Kojiro
Already better than Cu and Herc
Scottish with a side order of Welsh. It's not even a joke, they actually do talk that way.
>The Saber class is basically a trap class like Berserker, except not quite as bad.
I agreed with you up to this point. Saber class isn't a trap class, as you can get several very good Sabers (Altera out of GO or Gawain come to mind).
It's more that Arturia HERSELF is something of a trap option in terms of the 5th war, not that the Saber CLASS is a trap option. At least for Shirou. She's a good beatstick, yes, and as you noted, she doesn't have an amazing amount of utility. Where she's really crippled is that her NP, while unbelievably powerful, will trash her mana reserves because Shirou is crap for mana supply against her mana demand (all jokes aside).
Meanwhile, Cu is getting good mana support (when his mana requirements are actually very economical, to boot - GB is nowhere near the mana hog of Excaliblasts), plus is THE hero of Ireland. He's absolutely a top tier Servant.
Dumb picture, the spandex he wears is much more accurate. According to legends he fought naked most of the time.
There are definitely some good Sabers, but most of them are good purely because they have a powerful NP or good stats. Meanwhile other classes get some truly retarded shit. You're right that Saber herself is more the trap option than anything. She's strong and got a powerful trump card, but she's really not all that great despite that.
The spandex, despite being closer to the whole blue body paint thing, still isn't a great design. Cu was also once described as having rainbow-toned hair, several pupils, extra fingers and toes, and weird facial dimples even when he wasn't morphing into some kind of hellbeast (even though he was described more normally at other points). That doesn't mean it'd be a good design.

I would've preferred Proto Cu's outfit with FSN Cu's hair, but we're stuck with what we've got
>man's gonna steal ur willy
Gae Bolg
It's kinda sad really. He's played up to be really powerful and to even rival Gilgamesh, but he gets trashed in most of his fights, gets an inconclusive ending where the fight ends early, or outside circumstance fucks him over for the sake of plot. He's just not the kind of character who is meant to win in stories like these. He's already played up to be powerful, so when he ends up on the wrong side he has to play the wall for the main character's side to knock down or climb over.
Also
>jobs to Vlad
The fight against Vlad was more in his favor than anything. Vlad managed to pull out his trump card and it did little to him.
>jobs to Arjuna
He loses out to him in Extella Link, but he was pulling toward an inevitable win against him before he got stabbed in the back by Cu Alter in the America chapter of Grand Order.
>jobs to Sieg
He was also winning against Sieg until Astolfo showed up to block the finishing blow for him. Get stabbed once and dying is kinda pathetic, but he pretty much put everything he had into his last attack and he doesn't have great endurance without his armor.
>jobs to Gawain
Even Leo thinks that the fight would've ended very differently had Karna's master not actively made things worse for them and maybe had tried to help. The big difference here was in the quality of the masters. Gawain and Karna are on pretty close ground otherwise.
But yeah, Karna is made to either be a final or mid-boss type character or someone who jobs to hype up the real villain. Gilgamesh only really jobs once, specifically in the Heavens Feel route to hype up how much of a threat Sakura is. Karna gets shanked by Cu Alter to play up how dangerous he is and serves as the big challenge and test of resolve for Sieg before he goes on to fight Amakusa.
Saber is Best
You really have to wonder what drugs the Irish were on while describing Cu's appearance or the warp spasm
I think UFO did a great job with thrown Gae Bolg, but thrust Gae Bolg looks like shit. Whose idea was the weird tentacle laser thing?
Maybe they were inspired by this CG and they wanted to make it look more fantastical.
Ok i'm lalughing
RAAAAAW AAAAAAAAASS
Honestly my favorite weapon in the series.
>Vlad
was simultaneously juggling Karna along with several other servants despite supposedly being on-par
>Arjuna
He was boosted by Karl and yet he still got 1v1'd by Karna
>Cu Alter
Tanked his EX VS and survived and also oneshot him basically, even after beating Scathach
>Sieg
No excuse for this one bro
>Gawain
>even Leo thinks that fight would've ended very differently
No he said they were evenly matched but he was just the superior master overall. Gawain still BTFO him regardless, even without his Camelot Nightless buff.
*1v1'd by Arjuna
**Cu Alter beat him after beating Scathach
Cu is a pretty cool dude and I wish the universe would just cut him a little slack.
I've read fate/stay nigh and watched fate/zero, they were alright.
What are some other fate materials that aren't shit?
Hollow Ataraxia for sure
The adventures of lancer and archer when?
Lancer would have beat True Assassin in HF if it weren't for Sakura's shadow.
>was simultaneously juggling Karna along with several other servants despite supposedly being on-par
That was when he was vampire Vlad, and they were holding him down pretty well even without using their Noble Phantasms.
>He was boosted by Karl and yet he still got 1v1'd by Karna
And yet in another instance where they were on even ground, Karna was beating Arjuna. The point is that they're pretty equal, but it's directly stated that Karna is still overall stronger.
>No excuse for this one bro
There literally is when Karna was about to win but Astolfo showed up with Achilles' NP to save the day.
>No he said they were evenly matched but he was just the superior master overall. Gawain still BTFO him regardless, even without his Camelot Nightless buff.
They were evenly matched when Karna couldn't make use of his abilities fully thanks to having a bad master. The fight only shifted into Gawain's favor when Jinako forced Karna to use his NP against his best wishes which left him open. Leo was able to buff Gawain's defense and Gawain was able to somehow temporarily use Numeral of the Saint to tank Karna's NP, which is what allowed him to win. When Karna's on the ground after the fight, Leo walks up and says things probably would've gone differently had Karna had an actual master supporting him like Leo support Gawain.
Fate/Hollow Ataraxia is the fandisk sequel to Fate/Stay Night. I recommend it now that it's fully translated and I believe the voice patch is finished too.
Fate/Strange Fake is a promising but unfinished light novel, it was on a two year hiatus but getting a new volume in a few months. It follows a "fake" grail war set in the United States and since it's a poor copy of the Fuyuki ritual it summons a bunch of oddball servants and slides out of control. It's written by the author of Baccano and Durarara.
Fate/Extra is a holy grail war set in a massive alien supercomputer on the moon. It's pretty esoteric as far as the setting goes but offer new servants and some interesting stuff. It has a sequel called Fate/Extra CCC but it has no official or unofficial translation, only one route is partially translated so far.
Lord El-Melloi II Case Files is a light novel, manga, and soon to be anime that follows Waver Velvet 10 years after the events of Fate/Zero. It has a lower powerlevel, features no servants and is set mostly in the Mage's Association and really fleshes the organization out. It's mostly Waver (Lord El-Melloi II) and his oddball students taking on magical mysteries. It's very solid so far, and the light novel series is set to end soon. The translations are lagging behind quite a bit though.
Today's Menu for Emiya Family is a slice of life spinoff about cooking. It's just really comfy and got a 12 episode anime over the last year. Watch it to feel warm and fuzzy.
Fate/Grand Order is 90% shit, but the Camelot and Babylonia storylines make it worth trudging through the first 30 hours of dull garbage. However, Babylonia is getting a TV anime this year and Camelot is getting two movies after that (so they're released in the wrong order), so you may wish to check those out instead. A bunch of F/GO has been serialized in manga too, but it's kinda disjointed.
>Vlad managed to pull out his trump card and it did little to him
No. When Vlad impaled Karna it inflicted a mortal wound. He was a dead man walking the rest of Apocrypha.
>Fate/Grand Order is 90% shit, but the Camelot and Babylonia storylines make it worth trudging through the first 30 hours of dull garbage.
Camelot is trash, Babylonia's only redeeming trait was that it was funny.
I enjoyed Camelot a decent amount near the end but Babylonia is where they finally got the formula right in my opinion. Non-battle nodes so there was less meaningless enemy spam, good comedy and a very strong ending made it so far the unsurpassed best bit of the game, including JP content. Helps that it focused on several of my favorite characters though.
Based Ultimate Lifeform poster.
never ever
fucking nasu instead of making EMIYA a nigger give me what I want
How girthy is it?
Not anymore.
That's not at all true though. He was in fine shape. Nowhere was it said he was "a dead man walking." He was able to endure the damage just fine since he burned away the stakes so quickly.
At least he got it on vine.
>"aye Moira yer spot on am oan the protein"

>tfw you end up fighting your would-be master and end up killing each other even though you probably could've been good friends
Luck o' the Irish.
>arjuna
No, KARNA was boosted by Karl and he still ended up losing.
>karna was about to win
He lost against a baby homunculus please don't try to defend jobbing of that tier
>use numeral of the saint
he defended against it with galatine's edge
> you will never have mana sprayed lovingly all over your face by lancers noble phantasm
reminder it always strikes the heart
>No, KARNA was boosted by Karl and he still ended up losing.
And I'm telling you, in an entirely separate instance - the America chapter in Fate/Grand Order - Arjuna was handily losing to Karna before Cu Alter stepped in and stabbed him from behind. It was noted that Arjuna was steadily losing ground and that Karna was going to win. There were no boosts or anything in play there. It was both of them on even ground in their respective classes.
>He lost against a baby homunculus please don't try to defend jobbing of that tier
He literally only lost after his attack, which was going to kill Sieg (which even Sieg himself admitted) got blocked by outside help and he was left without his armor. That's not even jobbing.
>he defended against it with galatine's edge
They literally note that Leo used a defensive code cast and Gawain had used Numeral of the Saint. Pic related shows him literally activating it. About 5 pages later after Karna is hit by Galatine he notes that he had both a code cast from Leo on him and Numeral.
>baby homunculus
the same baby homunculus that can absorb mana from fucking anything and spam balmug nonstop
and he needed outside help asmentioned
fuck off falseflagger
One lives on an island and the other lives on a smaller island beside it.
>you spend your entire life fawning over the Cu myth, wishing to join a HGW so that you can save Cu from his terrible fate.
>To your luck you actually manage to summon Cu only to end up dead a few seconds later because some Japanese guy who think's he's christian but actually influenced by China ambushes you after gaining your trust.
Bazett had a hard life. She just wanted to give Cu what she perceived as a better ending not realizing Cu fucking loved his life and now she's forever going to be second place to Rin as Cu's master.
Poor potato wizard, that was hell she walked into.
Yes
