Do you support your favorite authors by buying their manga?

Do you support your favorite authors by buying their manga?

Attached: scanlation thread I guess.png (1150x1900, 1005K)

I don't buy anything manga or anime related. I don't have any subscriptions to anything. I completely leech this media. But I thank you for making me able to do so.

No, I don't pay for intellectual property

No because that would mean funding middle-man publisher's social engineering agendas.
*nods tinfoil hat*

Wow that looks like a shitty manga

once I get a job, sure

I bought one volume of taisho otome otogibanashi so I could read it ahead of the scans

But user, the manga and anime industries are disgusting and inhumane. I can't finance that shit.

the manga is garbage, but the page itself is based

I have no choice but to buy them anyway if it's not scanlated or not even ripped on public sites.

>that description
Why would I support absolute trash?

I'll probably start buying more if I ever move to Japan
I like buying physical but I don't like paying a fortune for shipping

or would you rather support k*reicake?

Attached: n2.jpg (1150x1900, 484K)

I never have and never will spend a dollar on anime or manga

Attached: 1509549658974.png (719x1600, 886K)

was the manga axed because of low sales?

It's indie shit so there is no way to be "axed". He made a kickstarter for it IIRC.

Is he telling people "Kek just learn japanese and buy faggot"?

Forgot the part where he send an email asking the translator to give his translation for free so he can sell it as well.

I usually buy the porn of my favourite artists, but I don't really buy mangos.

Unironically yes, and I like owning the tankobon and not translated volumes

>thinks weebs that don't know his shit will just randomly buy it
>if fellow furrfag stops translating it
that furrfag is one highly delusional hiki

I brought the first volume of the Haruhi light novel to reach the Amazon free shipping limit back in the day, and that's the closest I've gotten to "supporting the author" after twenty years of internet piracy.

I only buy niponese runes tomes if I like the book. Because I can look at it, collect and just read the official translation or scans. Most the jp tankobon are hentai and my signed sundome and nana to kaoru's.

I do buy manga ports but only those who have no scans or official digital that I could get rips from like soul liquid chambers or standalone books. No point getting series because why pay 12$x 10/20/30 vols for not reason.

Those prons are manga though.

Bought Mirai Nikki's final volume at Kinokuniya on whim because... I don't know, the Japanese manga package always look so cool and THICK. It's just satisfying to look at.

I do support manga, but not that one. Its shit.

Because I'm not willing to pay the price of the item as shipping on top of the price of the item itself. Bought Azumanga daioh and yotsubato but that's because they are very popular and were therefore available on amazon.de with reasonable delivery costs. Shipping from nipland is full blown retarded.

Yes. I've bought pretty much all of Arai Hideki, Yamamoto Hideo(also some Naoki) and Okabe Uru shit.

Based Kanami.

Almost this, but I also don't want to fund his private jet.

Lol no.
>buying
>2019

Hey man, if you can get something for free, your might as well try. He is a kind of middle man in this scenario.

This fucker deserve to be an obscure piece of shit.

>kickstarter

Confirmed scam.

of course

>buying manga that you can't read for the sake of supporting an already successful mangaka

Why people think this is bad? The guy is trying to make a LIVING with his art skills, he found a niche that can help, and tried to turn into a profiting thing. Asking the translation for free is not that bad either, at least the couple of chapter that were already translated.

Sure, why not?
If I'm really entertained and when I can afford it.
For I would even go as far as say "shut up and take my money".

Rather, I buy manga which I can't find online.

I actually am okay with this. Thought it was the usual scanlator begging at first. I think this could help a lot of new artists break into the industry, I had an idea about a site like mangadex with a patreon-like/tipping-jar like feature for the mangaka, not the scanlators (maybe they can get like 10% if the mangaka felt like it, if you want donate to them do it directly on their site). I like the model of those freemium Japanese online readers so the scanlated version should be the same, if the option exists to voluntarily give money to the artist directly, a lot of people would help. As for the question, the physical manga I own are localized English ones, so I do buy those when I like it.

the board isn't all EOPs, thank god

No idea how much the author's share is in kindle, but I buy quite a bit of stuff there.

Plenty of stuff that wouldn't see the light of day otherwise.

Attached: Screenshot_20190306-233201.png (1536x2048, 2.91M)

Unless I find the zips and raws for some manga I'm following and I know I like it I do go with kindle versions. At least they're way cheaper compared to some LNs which can go up to 1200 yen not to mention overpriced as hell eroge.

I'm a poorfag so i'm not going to spend money on shit i could get for free without consequence. I'd probably just buy doujinshi though,

I have to stay true to my essence

Attached: Piratechads always win, baby.jpg (1920x1080, 838K)

i do

Worth buying

>Until the translator got impatient for the slow-moving business and translated another chapter anyway, fracturing the fragile deal he had worked out with the author where we could have actually bought an officially scanlated chapter.

>>buying manga that you can't read for the sake of supporting an already successful mangaka
>Not learning Japanese.

There is actually a mangaka that uses Patreon to fund translating one of his series (about chirurgy) into English.

ShindoL also uses Patreon.

Ah bloo bloo

If you’re going to try to live off your hobby, you have to accept that you’re not going to make a lot of money unless you are really successful. Guess what faggotmangaka-kun, plenty of adults go through life barely making it while doing shit they hate. Consider yourself lucky.

you sound very punchable

Yes I do. I spent roughly 700$ for ports and 100$ for ships, also some figs and shit.
Planning to get more ships because the ports in my country are in my opinion below any given standard.

I can see he's a faggot for abusing some deluded too good for their own good guys, but nigga's making money from a hobby, I can't really complaint about that.

He's an idiot.
That number represents the number of people that likes the manga, but majorly is too poor to afford it, especially when you have to think about customs fee and taxes. A Y600 manga book in Japan could cost up to three times the amount if ordered online. As for digital copies, unless the buyer gets every right to do whatever to the image files, you'll fail at finding supporters.

How do those things have anything to do with manga?

it is distilled shit

does japan have patreon or other support services

I'd send something directly to the Torako don't break everything and the Cherry teacher Sakura Naoki authors
both of those were lost talents

>paying for something
>when paying is more effort than getting it for free
That's a no, laddy.

you won't get an english release if no one who is english speaking gives a shit though
and if no english speaking scanlator is picking it up nor he isn't getting english speaking publishers to publish the work then what the fuck is the point
I swear artist are sometimes retarded and decades behind marketing/monetization trends, you're going to be poor no matter how good your shit is

lol why would I support self insert trash

Yes. I encourage others to buy but I don't get my panties in a twist if they don't, most don't speak moon after all. More authors should just open up a Patreon.

I sometimes tack on a buyfag page.

Attached: x24.jpg (1102x824, 321K)

The most direct parallel is Pixiv Fanbox, which is almost exactly Patreon.

I buy the first volume of any series I enjoy, and stop there unless it's something I really really love.

You also have Enty and Fantia.

No, but I support the industry by subscribing to Crunchyroll. I hope you guys are doing the same thing.

Attached: Crunchyroll_Logo.svg.png (250x278, 14K)

I bought the Kumamiko manga recently after watching the anime. New translations never ever

Attached: 1550301786735.png (293x328, 164K)

if there are no lolis i do it for free

Manga is too expensive overseas, even if I wanted to support a series I enjoy, a long running one would be way over triple digits in price. You also have to store physical manga somewhere, which requires a semi-decent room size, good shelving and more bookcases.

At that point its more convenient to read from a tablet.

Attached: 1524507006789.gif (270x200, 277K)

>buy first volume
>it tends to be the most mediocre of the series and have drastically different artwork to the latest volumes

Do what for free? Shill or pirate?

MODS

>implying mods aren't CR shills

i see your name occasionally, i don't know who you are as i don't keep up with current Yea Forums much but my opinion of you just hit rock bottom. sasuga tripfaggots.
it's not a hobby if he's trying to live off it. imagine working on your manga jsut so inbreds like you read can read it for free while calling him a faggot when he asks for support.

top notch kek same

So was this originally written in Japanese or something?

Because it's never as simple as "give an artist you like your money"
They want specific amounts of it, and through specific means, which come with hassles. Makes it too annoying which can't compete with FREE.

I wonder what type of nose they have behind that keyboard

I do but only for the manga I really like. I only buy raws but shipping is a bitch.

Come and try your luck faggot.

I don’t want to buy books in a language I don’t understand.
My single purchase would not save the series from getting the axe.
There are other options available, which are both translated and free.
I don’t see a single good reason to support them.

Same desu.

We bought Watamote and saved it and look what happened. It became a harem series.

>Buy it, is cheap
>You spend +100 more in a biological need anyway
>but i wont tell you how to do it
Dropped.

people would buy a lot more shit if you could buy stuff that is anonymous and isn't DRM infected, at least I would. I don't mind sending a few bux to a mangaka I like but every payment processor that's straightforward to use requires all your private info. I don't want my weeb purchases associated with me.

YANG GANG SUPPORT YOUR LIKED AUTHORS WITH FREE MONEY NEET UPRISING

No

>Yea Forums doesn't give two shits about Sho or his works prior to this
>They still don't but they only pretend to care about it like the hypocritical cunts that they are so they have something controversial to talk about
>Worst yet is that this shit happened nearly two years ago and people still want to pretend to be offended over it

Literally not even remotely the case you lying fucking faggot. He literally denied the scanlator offering to work on it for free because he didn't like the idea of people working under him with no payment. The scanlator's the one that ruined the relationship by getting impatient as fuck and acting as if he owned the property at all by releasing something he knew he shouldn't have.

Because how dare someone try and make money off of their hard work, especially someone really obscure where sales actually matter for them.

ive read hundreds of manga and watched hundreds of anime.

never actually paid for a product

>100x that much on food anyway
Food is a vital necessity, shitty manga is not

>le art is a hobby get a real job xd
Fuck off tripfaggot.

Looks like we found the faggot who keeps shilling that shit. Please, get a tripcode, so I can filter you.

>I don't know, the Japanese manga package always look so cool and THICK. It's just satisfying to look at.
I know exactly what you mean user.
And m-maybe someday I'll properly learn moonrunes.

Translator should have send him a fax.

I'm not buying physical media when I have nowhere to put it, and buying digital gives most of my money to the middle man

600 yen is pretty cheap actually.
If I had a job I'd buy some ebooks of shit like.

I buy localized manga I like

No, but I do buy LN if I really like the series. I have to finish buying Spice and Wolf next(which I started years ago), then go onto Konosuba/Overlord. After that I'll have to pick something new.

Attached: ln3.jpg (3264x2448, 3.25M)

While it would be nice to collect volumes of my favorite manga (even though I can't read moonrunes), the shipping alone would cost a few times more than the manga itself.
Shipping prices was also the reason why I shortly stopped buying figures from Japan/amiami.

that's cool... could you kill yourself already

>How dare someone have a different opinion

>Really like a manga
>Follow artists ln twitter
>Make conversation with him
>But his manga
>Liked and retweeted

I have an opinion that your opinion suck balls. Do you dare go against my different opinion?

Yes.

Attached: books.jpg (2469x1000, 814K)

Yes, I import manga from japan every few months when enough shit I like comes out to make it worthwhile. I can read japanese though, and enjoy reading it from physical media over reading it off a monitor. But manga being cheap helps a lot. I can't support anime I like because it's crazy expensive and I simply can't afford that kind of expense, I'd rather spend it on figures in that case.

Attached: 1551575453907.gif (500x281, 1.93M)

>It's only 600¥! Plus $15 shipping!

Thats why you buy bulk dumbass

Once I have a job that affords me the ability to import tanks I can't read instead of just having money for bills with enough left over to eat and get gas I'll get right on it.

No, they should pay me for reading their works.

>if the option exists to voluntarily give money to the artist directly
Motoka Murakami's got a Patreon set up for an official English translation of Jin which is pretty neat.

I've noticed a lot of times Japanese creators just react the wrong way with piracy and sperg out which makes them look bad and just pisses off the English fans who don't want to feel like they're being bullied or guilted into paying for something. Things like what Murakami's doing is a great alternative. Independent mangaka should work with the people scanlating their work as well.

I'll always use comic artist Steve Lieber as the gold standard of how creators should approach piracy.

Considering that copyright and piracy are treated as actual, genuine crimes in Japan and they have a bunch of laws around the entire subject matter, you honestly can't expect every Japanese person to react to it in the same way, let alone in a positive sense. It's a major case of cultural difference. It's one thing when the mangaka has full control over their project and are making some kind of profit from it, while it's another thing entirely when it's the complete opposite.

>especially someone really obscure where sales actually matter for them.
Thing is, he never lost any sales. He would have never had any sales from the western market without that guy promoting his series. I feel bad for the guy, but he handled it poorly.

Do you know for a fact that he was actually seeing an increase in sales when the scanlation was going on? He's arguably made more of a profit by releasing his own versions of his own translations on Amazon.

Of course I do, sometimes it takes me a while but I always buy the entire collection of every series I translate.

what are the best websites for buying in bulk from japland

Anime isn't real, therefore I won't buy any.

>nobody in the English world is aware of your series
>scanlation makes them aware of it
>some people who read the scanlation like it and buy pay for more chapters
Obviously going from zero to any number that's not zero is going to be an increase.

Nope, just an assumption. And that's based on that particular message, I see he has someone translating for him. I still think he would benefit from someone dumping to spread awareness.

Me too.I don't even have a single anime related physical merchandise like posters and shit. All digital.

>I still think he would benefit from someone dumping to spread awareness.
If it means anything, there's occasionally someone on Yea Forums dumping it in LOL threads, and when each new chapter from the Kickstarter got released, someone was posting them on /trash/
Plus there's usually an user lingering around that'll post a Mega link to anyone that so much as asks for it.

This guy has achieved this hobby's nirvana.

Yes. But I'm lucky in my country manga price are 1/3 from what I see in amazon. Few time I order raw manga via proxy it is expensive as fuck. And there is option for digital purchase which is infinitely cheaper.

kumamiko chang was better

Unless I really like the manga and would reread it, I don't buy it, especially if it's 10+ volumes.

No, but I wouldn't say I have a "favorite author" to begin with.

This. I've no compunctions about the fact the manga and anime I consume is entirely of zero cost to me.
I appreciate the buyfags who make the purchases of obscure merchandise or the overpriced Blu-ray boxsets but I personally feel no desire to support any given artist.

Of course. I've got a few shelves full of imported manga. Unfortunately some things are just too old/obscure to easily be able to get my hands on. I do plenty of importing through Amazon and Kinokuniya, though.

Attached: 1373692894650.jpg (412x398, 59K)

If every site that hosted scans or torrent sites have links to each individual mangakas Patreon/whatever kind of online tip jar is used in japan, I feel like people would be more likely to donate, whether it's to cough up some change from the sofa cracks to full on large sums of money.

No, because I believe in freedom of knowledge. So anything that can or can be know has to be free, the only limit is what the mind can understand.

>literally no one scanlating it, licensed or otherwise
TRANSLATIONS NEVER EVER FAGGOT

Attached: index.jpg (188x268, 12K)

>shipping cost this
>shipping cost that
Do you stone men even know about the existence of ebook? you have no excuse to not support your favorite small mangaka!

>buying air
Kill yourself nigger

I've bought Dungeon Meshi, Yuru Camp and Pop Team Epic manga. Worth every pennies.

Saw this cover in store and impulse bought it immediately, no regrets.

There are rips of the official release, but it seems like the official releases stopped.

I buy the manga from all authors I enjoyed reading. I do not buy any translated manga though, as I despise censorship.

That manga's shit though, his previous work was better.

This
I'm studying moon and they're useful for learning phrases sometimes

I used to think this way then I realized that without at least buying something, these people will not make anything else. So in short I stopped being a faggot and buy something from time to time.

What's your favorite site to buy manga?

buyfags.moe

>but it seems like the official releases stopped.
What do you mean by that?

I buy shit manga and BDs just so they can be shoveled out every season to flood out shit that Yea Forums would actually like

Because nobody buy them

It was being published by a small company and it looks like no one was buying them. I guess you could ask them in an email if they plan on continuing it if you care enough.

>company licenses manga
>scanlators drop out of courtesy to support the author
>company drops manga because it doesn't sell
>no scanlators will bother picking it up again since they don't keep track of that shit

Attached: 1550303341801.jpg (600x456, 29K)

It's reassuring that even if western shit managed to invade video games and anime, they will never be able to invade manga scene since it's not profitable for them (besides the mainstream titles). I feel safe now (unless the japs region block even their ebook).

>The guy is trying to make a LIVING with his art skills, he found a niche that can help
>making money off a "niche"

how about he does his hobby on the side and get a real job?

I don't want to buy manga in Japanese as I want to be able to make use of them. I do buy a lot of localized manga, rather read a physical book than scans if I have the option.

>accidentally buy the same volume twice

>they will never be able to invade manga scene
They're already trying to broach the h-manga scene by trying to dictate shit like lolis in the UN and the 2020 Olympics shit.

Just return it bro lol

>You probably spend 100x that on food.
Sure, if you're a fatty.

>"Art should only be treated as a hobby, get a real job" fags
Grow up.

I do but only because i like reading manga on paper, i don't give a single fuck about the authors or supporting them.

Nice. It was worth the effort posting reminders that the volumes are on sale

I buy japanese comic books/art books or whatever my favorite jap artist sell on their convetion booths when I go on business trips to Japan. When I was a teen on Yea Forums back when scanlation/fansubs assholes wwere my only choice, I didn't brag about not giving money to artists. I just steal covertly and lurk the threads unlike 2019 Yea Forums.

I bought them in Japan and I think I paid full price.

Double nice. Did you get any store bonuses?

Where do you live now user? Hmm...

I mean, I'm not a role model when it comes to supporting authors, but at least I buy and support them from time to time. Not having money is just bullshit excuse if you are gonna blow it on games and alcohol anyways. You can never be that poor that you can't buy a 10 euro/dollar volume monthly from your favourite author

no, was i supposed to?

>the release was ahead of English release
>it's cancelled because lack of demand
FUCK INDONESIANS
go to gramedia and buy your favorite moe manga you piece of shit. why is that only shoujo shit thrive here!?
I had to actually learn jap to consume my manga, Fortunately I'm good enough to read raw manga now.

Attached: 20190307_143833.jpg (1120x1992, 464K)

If you bought them during the sales campaign, I think. But it also depended on which store you bought them from

Attached: 1544075537125.png (1280x829, 1.45M)

Holy shit Nino is so ugly, fitting for worst girl.

>this manga would be alive for a long time!
I hate that shit. Authors shouldn't drag out series endlessly.
I'd rather have an abrupt ending because it got cancelled.

i buy GuP Ribbon Warrior since I like it. I buy obscure Gundam manga on book off though.

>an already successful mangaka
His previous manga sucked and his one-shots got canned. 5toubun is a mildly popular but he is far from successful.

If stuff I'm reading is on cdjapan I'll buy it since its pretty easy that way
But if I gotta go through a proxy or some shit like that then fuck it

>because of it's
>it's
any sympathy immediately eradicated

I wish there was more discussion on Yea Forums about which official English products are good and worth the money. I don't accept "none of them" as an answer.
I've heard all the complaints about "the author and artists gets a smaller percentage", but that doesn't really matter when the price per volume is higher and I can afford that price difference.

scanlation and translation quality wise? unironically fakku. yen press is good, seven seas is 50/50 and viz is 4kids garbage.

I wonder if some day in future piracy becomes hard and it will be near impossible to find your favourite manga/anime then would people just stop watching it or actually pay money if prices would have dropped enough or if anime would be mainstream

The problem is mostly with Yen Press and Seven Seas where the quality can vary from series to series.
When I do find discussion about localization, It's sometimes hard to separate the nitpicks from the serious complaints on Yea Forums, and there's also occasionally people coming with complaints that other people later say were completely made up.

>pay money
Won't happen unless your favorite manga is mainstream shit from big magazines since they're usually localized, but then only Americans can read them due to license region lock. You can't pay for something that aren't available for you to begin with.
Small, niche series will stay japan exclusive and gaijin readerbase will die very quickly.
that's why if you're a big fan of otaku media, invest your time to learn Japanese. you don't even need to be fluent. Even if your Japanese is flawed, you can still read anything with smartphone OCR assistance.

I've only read Kakegurui and Goblin Slayer series from Yen Press and I think they're pretty good. Seven Seas usually have beyond awful typesetting (Harukana Receive, Mahou Shoujo Asuka, Yuru Camp). I don't know much about their other series though

When I first started getting into manga in middle school, every volume of manga from any bookstore was around $13. Tokyopop deserved to go out of business, fuck them.

>start buying more niche manga that have no chance to ever get anime
>one of them get anime
>neat
>then another one
>and another one
Master and mei anime any minute now.

jesus christ if you're gonna spend money do it on ANYTHING but the trash in your picture
how did you get such shit taste man, for fuck sake, take a step back and think about it

Kirei is a "girl".

>some LNs which can go up to 1200 yen
And then there's old LNs, only available used and costing 30 000 yen

>Master and mei anime any minute now.
god please, i need than in my life

There is a lot of shit I want but I dont buy it because it can be expensive for me, like video games.

video games = $60 / disc
manga = $6 / volume
?

of course

I've never paid for a manga, and translated hundreds of chapters over the years, therefore enabling EOP leeches. Not sure how to feel about it.

Some of the EOPs probably bought a volume after reading your translation.
