"Cruel Angel's Thesis" Theme Song Takes Heisei Anisong Grand Prize

animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2019-03-04/evangelion-cruel-angel-thesis-theme-song-takes-heisei-anisong-grand-prize/.144165

>The Heisei Anisong Grand Prix decided what anime theme songs best encompass the last 30 years and crowned Neon Genesis Evangelion's "Cruel Angel's Thesis" and as one of two the reigning champions. The song has remained a massive hit among karaoke fans and brings in a pretty coin for its writer Neko Oikawa. Oikawa revealed in 2015 that she earns over a hundred million yen (currently equivalent to $895,000) annually in royalties from the piece.

>"Cruel Angel's Thesis" shared the award with the comparatively obscure insert song "Agape" from UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie. The song was performed by the duo Melocure, made up of singers Megumi Hinata and Ritsuko Okazaki. The pair formed in 2002 but disbanded after Okazaki's untimely death due to a bloodstream infection in 2004.

>The Heisei Anisong Grand Prix named many more winners. The judges broke down the era by decade and selected three winners for each of the 11 categories.

>Turn Fail Gundam, The Utena, Bebop Rocksteady, Nadiugh, Card Craptor Sakura, Magic Knight Rayfail, and Shitlabor were on this for any reason

But good to see NGE, F91 Gundam, GaoGaiGar, Gundam Wing, and best 90s Macross on here.

Pretty good list.

Pretty bad post.

Utena, Rayearth, and Patlabor were poorly made, dude.

Nah.

Yeah, they were.

Also why did GaoGaiGar make it on here when it's on the weaker end of the Braves franchise? I can tell English speakers interfered with this.

>Good to see GGG on here
>But why is GGG on here
Do you post on /m/?

Have you heard music from the other Braves series?

The only other Braves series I've seen is Might Gaine. Are you just talking about the themes? With how much GGG's grew on my by the end of the show I'm not surprised to see it here. But seriously, Utena blows them both out of the water as far as the soundtrack is concerned.

>Utena blows them both out of the water as far as the soundtrack is concerned.
In terms of being sheer uninspired dribble I agree, Utena was worthy of being bottom barrel nonsense.
>The only other Braves series I've seen is Might Gaine
Alright, you don't get to judge any more.

youtube.com/watch?v=-XvQef7vtqY

Objectively better than anything Cowboy Bebop put out.

A lot of the other shows in the Braves series do have good OPs but I still consider GGG's to be the best. If I may ask, what would you have voted for instead?

So you do post on /m/.

Any that weren't Goldran, Dagwon, or Betterman

Yes and we're still waiting for Zoids Wild subs.

The fact nothing from Aquarion is on here is laughable and cringy at the same time now that I've thought about it.

>•"What's Up Guys?" by Shinnosuke Furumoto and Megumi Hayashibara, Arranged by Toshiro Yabuki (Sorcerer Hunters OP1)
I only know that song because of this:
youtube.com/watch?v=3Bm9aF3Xb6E
it's a banger though

I liked Goldran's OP.

Japan has good taste. I can barely believe it.

Same thing, saw the regular op afterwards.

Some sort of boomer award? Where are the 2000+, they had way more good songs per year.

There was a list for each decade. Aquarion won in the Lyrics category for 2000 to 2009.

>best encompass the last 30 years

Sailor moon OP best encompassed the 90s.

The first Haruhi ED for the 2000s.

Not sure what comes for the 2010s though.

It's a list for songs, not show quality.

In case you missed that an insert song from one of the trashiest moeshit shows of the anime glut period shares the Grand Prize.

>Audience Choice Award: Yuriyurarararayuruyuri Daijiken

Sasuga nips.

2010 is probably Madoka Magica.

Doubtful. There's been more recognizable OPs than Madokas.

Ohh, my bad. I got caught in the moment and forgot the thread was about intro’s specifically. I thought it was about the anime itself.

2/2
To make up for it here’s a very fun and underrated intro
m.youtube.com/watch?v=hUeW-5SediI

Actually fun fact. There was much of Madoka fans that made Madoka spinoff intro’s of popular anime intro’s throughout the years. Chances are if one of these exists for your favorite anime it’s considered a classic.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=rhrLsNWk8sY
m.youtube.com/watch?v=ViU8sbwtSbE

There’s a bunch more. They’ve got them from the two Haruhi intro’s all the way down to Steins gate. They’re pretty fun to watch if you guys get bored.

Based, I love the song.

>"Tori no Uta" by Lia (AIR OP)
Thank you fans, even if the kyoani anime op version is less than flattering.

I watched this show way back when I was getting into watching anime subbed on Youtube. I forgot about this show but I immediately remembered this song

>giving a shit about japanese music awards
They're some of the most infamously rigged things in existence.

This one is odd.

how the fuck did this happen?

It's a great song, better than that show deserves.
Also they already gave Eternal Blaze an award.

>"only my railgun" by fripSide (A Certain Scientific Railgun OP)
I don't get the hype for this song.

The first listening feels pretty amazing, but then it grows stale after like 20 times. Doesn't help that every fripside song afterwards is a complete derivative on that same tone and rhythm.

It's great if you've never heard a fripside song before.
They're like Kalafina in that they only have one song, albeit a pretty good one.
