2 and a half years of training and a new form later, Luffy is roughly equivalent to Big Mom's #1 fighter, more or less.
Certainly not weak, but still not really able to crack the top tiers. Kaidou utterly fodderized him when they fought, and nothing says he'd do particularly better against Big Mom, Shanks or the Admirals
So what powerup is Oda gonna pull outta his ass to let Luffy become the pirate king?
Sure, theoretically Luffy doesn't NEED to fistfight all his rivals into submission to become king, but....this is OP. everything is solved via fistfight.
He will just rubberize the air he pumps into himself with awakening and do pseudo g4 bullshit with g2 and g3 followed by g5 being an "since i can make the form less harmful i will just pump twice as much as g4"
Charles Nelson
You want to see some REAL awakened rubber? *unzips*
Henry Anderson
Oh, I get it. it's like a balloon, right? it's not inflated which is why it's so small?
Luke Brooks
>everything is solved via fistfight. Except with Aokiji
Ryder Smith
This. He will first combine forms and at during endgame arc, he will awaken his powers, which for some reason allows him to constantly use them without any drawbacks.
Kayden King
Natural progression. I don't see why he needs a new powerup. When he was base form he went from beating random jobbers with sword fingers to beating a shichibukai
Asher Hall
Luffy always pulls a new move out of his ass. Storm, Jet Gatling, King Kong Gun, King Cobra... you know it's coming. Luffy's been lifting in prison so Kaido should watch his ass.
Ayden Wright
Probably this, and a dose of the logic he used to power up vs katakuri- you need real life experience to grow quickly.
He'll probably go toe to toe with a weakened kaido with a team first, and then other stuff.

Owen Barnes
Why would Oda need to pull it off of his ass when Luffy is training on Wano right now?
Gear 4 was a mistake. The kinetics feel really weird when I see the panels.
Isaac Thompson
That is an asspull in itself. Why the fuck did Kaido think that it would somehow break Luffy's will is beyond me. But no it will just make him 10x times stronger and together with other bullshit that will definetly happen will be another stepping stone for Luffy to defeat Kaido.
Thomas James
I love Snakeman like most. Boundman took some getting used to.
Juan Smith
Kaido doesn't know Luffy personally, so he didn't know the situation would turn out like that since normally people's spirits are broken by the prison - so not an asspull.
James Flores
Kaido is not smart, not even when he's sober.
Asher King
Just another in the ever growing list of times where the bad guy has had Luffy dead to rights, then simply just chooses not to finish him off because they wanted to try their hands at being a Bond villain.
By all accounts, Luffy should have died in Alabasta. And W7. And Thriller Bark. And Whole Cake. And in Wano.
Daniel Reed
But this is wrong since one of Kaido's personality traits is taking strong people under his wing. He doesn't even remotely see Luffy as a threat, just a potential soldier.
Lucas Rodriguez
And thats not even counting the times he would have died for sure, but was saved out of the blue by sheer dumb luck.
Louge Town, the most wanted man on earth makes his way, seemingly alone, to this town to save Luffy's hide
Random pirates on Thriller bark save the SH from death after their shadows are stolen
Kuma saves Luffy and the other SH from being executed by Kizaru
Half the WB pirates and Ace save Luffy multiple times from being killed during the war
Saved by the people of Dressrossa after he fails to defeat Doflamingo before his time runs out
it goes on and on.
Andrew Perez
Marcha 5: El despertar de Gol D. Roger.
Adrian Phillips
That's just 1 instance. Crocodile basically could have killed him twice and just chose to never make sure. Lucci could have killed him in W7, Moria could have killed him after he was passed out from his shadow being stolen, him surviving whole cake at all is simply down to BM's men insisting on only taking him prisoner, etc
David Gray
Oh okay, I was just arguing Kaido's point so I'm good. Luffy's canon lucky.
Jaxon Murphy
Moria doesn't kill him because then he loses access to the shadow, notice how he also left everybody else alive.
You're right about everybody else.
Jaxson Jackson
odds are he would have died on his own anyways simply because he wasn't aware of the sunlight weakness shadowless people had
had those pirates not helped the SH they'd likely have died at some point
If anything, Moria is a fucking retard for just letting them wander out free instead of safely locking them up with seastone or some shit. If Luffy blundered out and got vaporized by sunlight, there goes his big Oz plan.
Ian Moore
>Luffy should have died in Alabasta Crocodile did finish him off, Robin just saved him >W7 Robin and CP9 had an agreement to spare the SHs in W7 >Thriller Bark When? Moria needed Luffy alive since the shadow disappears when the owner of the shadow dies. Also, Kuma never intended to kill Luffy. >Whole Cake Katakuri wanted a fair match and lost >Wano Kaidou doesn't know Luffy personally
