That's already on Your Name's sales numbers. Wow
comicbook.com
That's already on Your Name's sales numbers. Wow
Wait, when did that happen?
When it was released outside of united states of shittastestan
Who cares?
When it came out in China.
People who like anime, you obviously wouldn't be interested.
The people who want to see the sequel(s)?
Your Name also had a significantly lower budget. It was expected to reach at least 1.5b yen, whereas Alita needs to break at least $400m just to not be a loss.
Another animoo adaptation failure, when will (((they))) learn?
>we're getting a sequel
OH FUCK YES.
I actually liked the movie.
Wow, China saved it? Or Japan?
>whereas Alita needs to break at least $400m just to not be a loss
Yeah, but that depends on whether it doesn't stew into meme culture like Bladerunner.
It actually hit the ending of the ovas pretty well.
Cameron isn't a chosen person.
Nice, its a damn good movie, wake up america.
Literally Pacific Rim 2.0
>same budget
>a plot only a weeb could like
>gross 400mil thanks solely to gooks
>will get a low-budget flopquel 5 years from now
And this film said a lot about our society... so I wonder how they would allow it to even exist.
it's all over
manga adaptions will now overtake capeshit
there is no escape
Who cares nerd. Wake me up when they get to this part.
Except the film felt more like bladerunner than your typical weeb adaptation. Once you got to the first fight scene, the movie changes from a corny anime adaptation to a proper noir movie.
I wish it went even darker though and didn't worry about the films classification. Those fight scenes, the bar scene, the reveal of how to get Zalem and the final factory tube scene were hints that they could make a very good movie in the sequel. This movie, however, reeks of production hell (as it was in for decades).
China saved it, Japan would rather see Gackt's movie.
Can someone tell me how movie sales work? How much of that money goes back to the studio? I remember reading somewhere that Alita needs 400 Million abroad to become profitable, maybe because of third parties?
>only $64 million
Hang on, that means that it made most of it's money in the west still..
Hmm. I'm bit worried that westerners saw it because of James Cameron though.
The fact that it got more than half of what's needed is a shock to me though. This was originally Cameron's pet project.
>people that like anime care about shitty kikewood adaptations
Wew
It doesn't function at all like anime, no point in asking about a "studio." The production budget was 200 mill, marketing budget for high profile movies is usually as much as the production budget.
>bit worried that westerners saw it because of James Cameron though
A bit worried? That's literally what it was riding on.
Pacific Rim (the first one) was fantastic though and if you dislike it for some reason you should literally get the fuck off Yea Forums for being a retarded zoomer with shit taste.
Well then the sequel might struggle to earn the same amount then.
That's the problem, the sequel might be better produced than this movie, but it won't earn as much because this movies "issues" put them off.
They were minor issues, but they definitely smelled of production hell.
This movie's hope is legs. You have stories of people seeing it multiple time all over the world, major reason of its failure is that people did not even consider it or gave it a chance. Shit marketing, big eyes, whatever, the point is, a lot of people on the fence turned in favor of the movie once they've actually seen it. With postivie word-of-mouth like that the sequel MIGHT outgross the first one.
It should have tried to see what worked with Bladerunner 2049 and see if they could introduce elements that worked with that with Alita.
They're actually surprisingly similar thematically.
If it's only the first 3 volumes, why does she already have Damascus blade and the arms from her end of series design?
>comparing live action numbers to animated features
>not wanting this movie to fail
the movie is still a bomb, fortunately
Actually she got that blade from Zapan. Not sure if it is the Damascus blade.
>not wanting more large budget Hollywood sci-fi neo noir like Bladerunner
I'll admit I don't usually like anime adaptations, but I'm more for large sci fi films like this that isn't Marvel/DC.
Truth be told, the OVAs werent that compelling and the greatness was in the animations, its visuals. That is the very same case with this movie, the story is ok but the grandeur was in its VFX.
kill yourself moefag zoomer
Fuck off shill.
>He thinks worldwide box office matters
The studio gets back on average 15% on foreign markets. Adjusted for this the studio gets about 270*0.15+70*1.0=110.5 million.
This is nothing for a big budget Hollywood film
>but the grandeur was in its VFX
More the fighting scenes. They were well done.
don't compare this trash from rodriguez and cameron to bladerunner
fuck off hollywood kike
This shit isn't Yea Forums related.
>The studio gets back on average 15% on foreign markets.
Actually they get 10%. 5% really is not that big. Really, 3% is like a drop in the water. The movie is distributed by Fox's branches in almost all territories, including China, and has almost no extra stakeholders.
>don't compare this trash from rodriguez and cameron to bladerunner
But I will, because it could have been as good as the recent Bladerunner and was just a mess in some of the things it did.
in what universe could it have been? all the wrong people were involved.
>all the wrong people were involved.
I agree. Should have asked the fucking Bladerunner 2049 director to do this ay.
And Cameron was way too distracted by Avatar to properly make this movie.
villenue is kind of a meme but yeah he would've done a better job no doubt.
>The movie is distributed by Fox's branches in almost all territories, including China, and has almost no extra stakeholders.
Post link nigger
>villenue is kind of a meme
I dunno, 2049 was pretty good for a sequel. Proved Hollywood could still make great films.
personally i wasn't really into it, but i blame gosling as i feel he has zero charisma and presence. i liked the ideas and setpieces behind it, though.
>$200M budget
>only $350 million at the box office
What a flop
>but i blame gosling as i feel he has zero charisma and presence
Ah, so you believe whatever RLM makes you believe do you?
Gosling is underrated.
You'll be hearing from my lawyer about that 1%
Look it's this or Captain Marvel. And I don't know about you but Im down with the MCU garbage.
It's almost as if his character is just a schmuck and a red herring.
>James Cameron worked with actual bionics company to give a poor kid actual goddamn robot arms and the technology has been advanced to become more affordable for everyone.
Bullshit, and even if it were real it'd probably just a marketing stunt anyway. No company would actually do something like that for altruistic reasons.
James Cameron is the crazy mother fucker who just makes movies to pay for his deep sea exploration hobby. This kind of shit is straight up his alley. And even if it is a marketing stunt who cares? They're still actually helping a kid out. Why don't you go whine about how your parents don't get you and that good is just an illusion somewhere else.
>No company would actually do something like that for altruistic reasons.
Cameron has been known for doing crazy things for stupid reasons.
Normally, I'll agree with you, but Cameron is an actual autist who has done shit like collaborate with actual marinebiologists, go into submarines and actually personally go into the sea just to get that perfect underwater footage. Now, I don't think he did it for altruistic reasons, he just did it because again, he's autistic for details and realism and shit.
>not even $1 billion
So it's a flop?
Don't really want a sequel after the way they've set up Nova to be some mastermind
>Yea Forums - Anime & Manga
>Film based off a Manga
Either brain-dead or bait
Why would anyone actually want hollywood to ruin more anime?
Thing is Fox tell media 350 million is enough to greenlight the sequel, who knows why, maybe Cameron really want it anyway.
It's a live-action film. If you want to discuss it, do it on Yea Forums - that's the board meant to discuss live-action film. We don't discuss anime-based video games in here either because there is a fucking board for it.
Yeah that irked me, but I don't think "Muh Karma" is gonna mesh with a 2 hour movie aimed at getting as many butts in seats as possible.
Same reason why the martian flashbacks and motorball are so early.
This kind of shit movies always sells.
It's just a taste of the bad taste of the crowd and how few true fans there are in the Western film industry.
>No company would actually do something like that for altruistic reasons.
No one does anything for altruistic reasons, people who get nothing material for their good actions are still seeking a personal profit. They just put more value in the good feelings they get from following their moral code.
>The discussion of "live action" television shows is permitted so long as they are distinctly rooted in, or based off of an anime or manga series.
1. It's not a TV show.
2. This is referring to Japanese adaptions (which are shit too and also belong on Yea Forums or /jp/ or something).
look at this fucking nerd
Ok backseat mod, go ahead and delete the thread then.
>2. This is referring to Japanese adaptions
[citation needed]
>China saved it
So it'll get a chink-pandering sequel later?
Because if they were to actually make a decent anime/mango adaptation, I really want it to be this one as Hollywood needs another interesting sci-fi movie like this to finally step away from the horrible Marvel/DC crap.
Plus I really wanted Alita to get some attention. Unlike GITS or DBZ , Alita is still unknown to many people and I enjoyed it's themes and world.
To me this increases the chance of a new anime adaptation too.
It can freely crossover both Yea Forums and Yea Forums.
I don't see why it shouldn't.
Cry more
>liking capeshit
so has Yea Forums just given up pretence on hating it now?
...
Hollywood will retcon it for the boxoffice´s sake.
Westerns values don't sympathise with assassins, terrorists or mass murders.
I see lots of reviews pitting this against Captain Marvel, so it's fitting that Yea Forums likes it.
...
did your janny application not get accepted dork?
I really couldn't care about that.
I just want more big budget films like Bladerunner. This series has that potential... but hasn't quite got there yet.
>haha my billion dollar company is better than your billion dollar company! disney btfo!
jesus fucking christ this shit is pathetic.
Have you not seen Yea Forums? These guys claim to hate capeshit but can't stop doing Marvel vs DC wars. Not even Yea Forums takes that shit as far as Yea Forums does it.
Well we would like to see more artful blockbusters than mere seat fillers like marvel.
Alita was a big risk because nobody other than anime fans knows the source.
It's hardly a risk when they kept plastering Jame Cameron's name on it. Cameron is basically the golden boy right now because of Avatar bux.
>Chink pandering
>John Boyega
But people don‘t even remember Avatar that much. It is over 10 years old and was surpassed both in box office and in digital effects by Caprshit and Star Wars now
Did you not see all those chink involvement? The last act even had the chink exec being shown to be a dindu nothing and joining the fight because all the bad shit was the gaijin's fault, the chink company was totally innocent and was just doing it for the greater good of the country.
>fucking samefagging .Yea Forums shills
how much are (((they))) paying you today? faggots
IF ALL OF YOU RETARDS STOPPED RESPONDING THESE SHITTY THREADS WOULD BE DEAD BY NOW
IF ALL OF YOU RETARDS STOPPED RESPONDING THESE SHITTY THREADS WOULD BE DEAD BY NOW
IF ALL OF YOU RETARDS STOPPED RESPONDING THESE SHITTY THREADS WOULD BE DEAD BY NOW
What if we want these threads? What if we liked Alita?
nah. Sure you liked it. But we don't like people shilling it. turbofaggot
Context?
Who put you in charge? We get to decide, not you.
lurk more
Not going to lie, I went and seen this in 3D over the weekend and it's pretty great.
You and your discord friends aren't Yea Forums.
>we get to decide, not you
>literal jew answer
>thinks Yea Forums likes shilling Yea Forums faggots like you
kys
Nor do your discord friends, read the rules user. Specifically rules 1&4.
>mfw Yea Forumsfags samefagging
>"im not OP and just seen this movie and it's pretty great" posts
>being this much of a clusterfaggot
>implying
Keep on trying guys, I'm sure this will catch on just like animegate did.
>coming from discord to troll Yea Forums and do some threads about alita movie
>thinks anyone fucking cares about alita now
you're just like those lefty/pol/ and /pol/ faggots shilling on Yea Forums with their shit. consider suicide, shitdick
Cameron is literally /ourguy/ for being an autistic fellow though
Is everything a secret op to you people. Why can't we just talk about an anime movie?
I just watched the movie
I think I'm in love with Alita and I want to see more of her cute ass and flat chest, I hope this post won't get me in trouble.
Did we talked about Ghost in the Shell movie?
Retarded Hollywood execs who can't pander China correctly. Just like TLJ's chinawoman who was in fact Vietnamese, and nobody in Hollywood was aware that China hates Vietnam.
Pacific Rim Uprising tried very hard to pander to China, but no-one was here to tell them that China hates ugly blacks like Boyega. The summit of incompetence.
>Gosling
>zero charisma and presence
I mean not blaming that on the character (an Android that's starting to discover emotions he can't control) but blaming the A list actor who's been known to give fantastic performances be it a romance a comedy or a noir?
>this not being a secret op
nice try faggot
>45 unique IPs
Come on guys this isn't an obvious attempt to gaslight people into thinking this non-anime, non-manga thing is widely accepted on Yea Forums. Just accept that Yea Forums has changed and is shit now because me and my discord buddies said so!
You guys are doing a great job though, I'm sure in a few weeks I'll be seeing daily alita threads along with those Vic threads that really made an impact on this board.
Wow discord is out in full force today, how much are they paying you?
Is it pathetic or hilarious when these newfags don't know that you can see them samefagging with the unique IP count?
>discord
what did he meant by this?
When the Fox deal is completed Disney will own Alita (unless I'm missing something and the rights belong to someone else) so it's actually Disney vs Disney.
>shilling alita threads on Yea Forums
>calls Yea Forumsnons discordniggers
really?
I love Alita and I demand more cute ass and flat robo tiddies!
Just because they where incompetent in pander to China doesn't mean they where trying. The Story kills the Japanse main acter (china dislikes Japan) makes the american guy the real badguy and bends backward to make the Chinese lady the hero that rebuilds the Jaegers to save the day.
>unless I'm missing something
You are, James Cameron's company Lightstorm Entertainment owns Alita, they have a distribution deal with Fox but Fox does not own Alita. If they made another one Lightstorm could shop around for a different distributor.
You're not fooling any of us, but keep trying!
...
I stand corrected then.
Dude I'm just a Battle Angel Alita fan that wanted a good live action movie. Chill.
>an anime related hollywood movie having a thread on Yea Forums is a secret op
ok then.
Speaking about chink pandering, did the chinks like the martian?
I reallly hope this will revive the franchise and nips will make an anime
Edge of Tomorrow shit thread was deleted.
So yeah Alita shill threads approved by mod. Thanks you Hiro and *you know his name*
>Because if they were to actually make a decent anime/mango adaptation
Literally will never happen. You're a fucking idiot if you think Hollywood getting involved with anime is ever a good thing
Alita was decent.
not anime fuck off shill
Based. I hope cap marvel fails due to how they kept shitting on males.
I really hope so too, but I feel like china will save it as well.
>but I feel like china will save it as well.
doubtful. They will shit all over it like they shit on any sjw crap like ghostbusters.
It's riding on the Infinity War train, the best we can hope for is a disappointing domestic showing, but I'm sure it'll make assloads anyway.-
>The discussion of "live action" television shows is permitted so long as they are distinctly rooted in, or based off of an anime or manga series.
You crossboarders wouldn't know about this so I'll let you off this time
i'll think about watching it
