I am honestly surprised Kei hasnt introduced the gold digger main antagonist who feints being a girl who needs saving but is actually a manipulative con artist who knows Natsuo is an up and coming writer, and it takes Rui or, most likely, Hina to convince Natsuo that she is shady. Would be nice for end game after the Miyabi/Misaki shenanigans.

Kei hasn't been very subtle when it comes to foreshadowing, but it's very obvious where she is going.

What people do not get is that Hina's character since the beginning has been written as the tragic heroine that has been the Altair of sacrifice.

A character like her has no reason if the story ends up with her staying silent and accepting her role as a sister and lying to herself once again. Her whole story since the beginning has been about overcoming this feeling of selflessness.

Not only that, but the narrative has gone out of its way to constantly put her in situations where she has to do what's best for others and not herself. It has reached a point where she has stopped thinking for herself even if she knows it hurts her a lot. Kei had many chances to have her move on or just express herself and be done with it but she has not only made her love for Natsuo the pivotal point of Hina's story but has also made her sole motivation to be there for Natsuo irrespective of whether she gets to happily express herself or not.

That's why her loosing at this stage makes no sense. Besides Kei has left so many threads open for Hina and Natsuo's relationship - the lie, proposal rings that Hina still holds dear, his book based on Hina. Not only that but Natsuo has always tried to reminde himself that she is over him whenever they share a moment despite knowing her well enough to think that there is far more beyond her words, but she tries to stop thinking about it because he knows the truth might be too bitter to swallow.The taboo relationship between an adult and a minor has been the pivotal aspect of this story and that's why Hina loosing especially after all that has happened in the story makes little sense.

Rui has lost from a meta point of view. It's true that she can just come back right now and take Natsuo back, but the problem with that is it would completely betray the core themes of the story and would compromise the integerity of the story. For that reason alone, it will never happen.

I don't think so. While the story isn't over and anything can develop, i feel this breakup , unlike with Hina, was the true end of their relationship.

Hina x Natsuo had several outside circumstances against it before it even started, from their respected ages, being student and teacher, Hina already in a relationship and their parents disproving.
Yet, without those social circumstances, the two were shown to of been so happy together, which is strongly proven when Hina was dating the stalker and despite the lavish and rich lifestyle he could of given her (minus the crazy) she was more happy with the low key, moderate lifestyle with Natsuo.
In the end, it was due to the outside circumstances of society (school rules) that broke them up, as Hina did not want to jeopardize Natsuos future for her. Apart from that, the two where happy just being with each other.

Then theres Rui x Natsuo
The biggest difference in this relationship was, once it was official, that it had NONE of the circumstances the relationship with Hina had to plague it.
Yet even before it became a long distance relationship, Rui (mostly) kept making massive issues out of minor things, getting upset and distant over comments she could of wavered off, keeping Natsuo at a distance for things other people had said. And Natsuo made his own mistakes for not asserting himself enough to others about his relationship, which allowed him to be placed in positions with other girls even though sometimes it wasn't his fault.
Ultimately, it was both herself and Natuso that brought down their relationship as, in their efforts to make it work into a serious relationship, they kept important things from each other so to not burden the other, only to hurt each other since serious relationships are about trust and carrying the baggage together.

Rui realized that while they did have good times as a casual/medium couple, they themselves made it too difficult for a serious relationship to work, long distance or not. In the end they she felt that they would be better off as friends/family since a serious relationship was clearly not working for them. And that happens in life, no matter how hard you try, sometimes things just don't work out between you and another.

Hina was forced to break up with Natsuo in order to preserve his future and his ambitions as it was society that was against them

As cheesy as that sounds, Japanese are pretty uptight about those sorts of things. For example, when Music artists in America take drugs or smoke weed, they can become more popular and make music off their experiences. in Japan the artists, the manager and the label staff are forced to apologize and the artists career is most likely destroyed with the manager and label mates futures on the line.
So it was circumstance that made the break up was for the best, only because the circumstances of forbidden student/teacher relations risked plaguing Natsuos career ambitions before it even started.

But now those circumstances don't exist as Hina is not a teacher, and their parents are shown to be more open to the idea. The two where more than ready to make begin a serious relationship and even though Natsuo was with Rui, there was always chemistry between Hina and Natsuo. Now its become a matter of what happens next.
Hina tried to move on but ultimately couldn't give up on Natsuo, keeping the rings she and Natsuo gave each other and is ready to dedicate her life to him. But Natsuo is, understandably too moody and gloomy. And moving on too soon would be disrespectful. But it's highly likely they'll make another attempt and try for the real relationship with nothing to stop them.

While i like the new girl, i feel like she'll end up as another lost soul that Natsuo came across to help throughout his life. though it wouldn't surprise me if she puts a wedge between Natsuo and Hina.

Though now i wonder how Serizawa will fit into this. While i like her a lot, i'd prefer Hina to find happiness sooner than later.

Unlikely. Post breakup, Natsuo hasn't been shown to miss Rui or make any effort to better himself in an attempt to get back Rui. All the chapters since the breakup so far has shown that the breakup has had a complete negative effect on him. This wasn't the case with Hina's breakup where he had resolved himself within 2 chapters and wrote his first award winning work.
