It was never going to be a masterpiece. At best it would've been good, Aniplex brute forcing their way to something notable by recruiting all the ex-Gainax staff they could, but then they fucked that up too. And the story after 15, total nonsense.
Fafner has too many seasons attached to it to inspire the same wild ride. It's also airing in theaters first and only later as a TV broadcast.
