You can debate back and forth whether S1 or S2 had the better models, but you can't deny that S1 moved smoothly and S2 is a jolting slideshow.

Extremely rushed, the studio has little to no experience with 3D animation and modeling and was short on people who did, the director and screenwriter either did not understand the core themes of the first show or were uninterested or unwilling to continue telling the story of Kaban, Serval and Bossu, more involvement from Mine and KFP board members, outsourced animation to China (Beetle, who were also rushed by Tomason). KF2's creation is the exact opposite of that of KF1 and you shouldn't take it as canon, despite KF3 being set to be a sequel to this. The real KF S2 will be in Tatsuki's head until the day he dies or releases it in some new form.

Eyes are pretty important to get right, as is fps.

S1 didn't have any problems with characters looking at shit.

S1 had the excuse of being given to a low budget studio, which did the best it could. There's no excuse for a now successful franchise to look like this. S2 models look lazy as fuck with its gradient hair and lack of shading. I've seen MMD videos doing a better job than this.

But even with poor animation quality overall, the original had relatively consistent animation, eyes actually looking at what they were supposed to be looking at, and more.

S1 looked like shit in some ways, theres like poor choreography and simplistic animations but thats a given with tv anime to begin with.
It still looked smooth with its solid 12 fps in every scene and the characters looked pleasing to the eye and there was no uncanny shit going on.

Nobody is going to tell you that S1 looked amazing, but it looked good enough and with a lot of attention to details, comparing S1 and S2 is like comparing Violet Evergarden wtih Maerchen Maedchen, and I didn't bother to proofread this so fuck it.

So, I've watched S1 and I don't really see how they could continue in a satisfactory way.
The obvious thing would be to go on another adventure looking for humans on the second island with new animals, but that would be pretty lame as it would essentially mean 0 progress.
On the other hand, if they were to find humans, what would happen next?

Aside from the search for humanity, we also follow Kaban as she traces behind Mirai's footprints and learns more about Serval and acquires new skills and mettle to become the park guide Japari Park requires. If they were to fond humanity, Kaban would return to Kyoshu with humanity in tow and the park would slowly return to its pre-disaster state, if not a new society of human-Friend coexistence would be created.

Regardless of the quest for humanity, Kaban, Serval and Bossu still want to meet Mirai, so even if they find humanity they ultimately will continue searching for Mirai (or her descendents) and then Serval and Bossu will need to decide if they want to go back to her too. It could have built up to something similar to S2 episode 6, but actually good and handled respectfully to Mirai and Serval's previous relationship.

Is this the example of the bad scene? I haven't watched this show but this is some really mediocre animation. Random dudes working in SFM do better than this.

You guys, seriously, I WANTED to support Kemono Friends 2 since it aired. I think a lot of us wanted to, but after the first few episodes I'm just not enthused of how new the story is written and directed. Especially with that Kaban-chan episode, even though I LOVE her new design.

I'm still in a limbo at the moment, and hoping for a stellar story for the final few episodes, but all in all, Kemono Friends 2 as a whole is a 5/10 show.

And after KF2, I don't think they'll be much marketability for the title anymore which really sucks. Like, we could have gotten a movie out of this and a lot careers could went really far. I've been enjoying the Gothic x Luck girls with their ending theme and they really rock too.

Agreed. I really can't see the franchise as a whole surviving past KF3, unless it manages to become something big in the mobage industry to make up for KF2. The direction the series went certainly isn't anything people who were fans of the anime would have wanted, which is unfortunate too since they also make up the majority of the fanbase. With viewership down and the remaining people becoming more apathetic or angry toward the show, they're pretty much fucked.

That cerulean came from the side Caracal was, then while Serval and Kyururu was talking with Caracal the cerulean appeared outside the stage from that same side. All of then ran to the left, then suddenly they're all in the stage again but like they came from the opposite side. It's always so random...

Everyone was doing crazy out-of-character shit for the sake of jokes. There were a lot of "this character definitely wouldn't do that" moments. The conflict is driven by all the characters being assholes to each other (the only type of story Masumoto knows how to write).

I want to add that episode 10 was supposed to be a "serious" episode to establish the big conflict for ep11-12. But it didn't work, because it spent 80% of the episode on mean-spirited looney tunes bullshit, then quickly says "this is the theme we were trying to establish" in the last 5 minutes.

The whole story of epsiode 10 should have been fine on paper, but the character interactions were all fucked up so it failed. Masumoto doesn't know how to write serious. His shitty writing isn't a big problem in ep5, since that's a pure joke episode. But there are still some traces there, like Tatsumi acting out of character.

Having the same number of friends (preferably all different designs drawn is very low quality) in a smaller stage would work much better.

they didn't have to add a lot of friends, just enough on a smaller stage so it doesn't feel like PPP is presenting themselves to a bare audience. They don't even had to draw those friends well, just make it like any other background character where you can just barely make out the design and then make a lot of them to pack that audience up.

Character development is a meme. It's better to have no conflict than a forced drama like in S1E8.

In KF1 it was Margay dealing with her fanboy-ism and making something useful with it. It was the Princess dealing with her dream and the Penguins believing in her dream. Stuff happened there, what about here? Why Margay even looked depressed?

70% of the dance is mocapped and on ones, and the remaining 30% is on twos. All SFX (screen, hextiles, etc.) update on ones, which doesn't help.
I honestly wonder what effect decimating the mocap to twos would have had overall.

Mine makes the design and sets a "profile" for each Friend, but the anime staff doesn't need to follow that profile and can heavily change them if they feel like it.

Of course, in this case not following the profile is dumb since her design is so in your face about it, and the new personality they came up with didn't work well.
