The fight isn't there just to be a cool fight where one guy wins, it establishes Hisoka's role for the rest of the arc and builds anticipation for when one of the protagonists fights chrollo or hisoka

It's not gradually getting worse, it got bad around the last chapters of Greed Island where Togashi's back was killing him. He probably almost lost the will to continue the story and I think that's why there's a sudden narrative shift for CA, at the start of CA it's almost as if he's starting to build the story from scratch. You can argue they aren't tournament arcs with regards to the typical shonen genre writing style. But they are absolutely tournaments. Three of the five arcs before chimera are centered around a structured tournament. Add into that the pointless rescue arc and the only unique and interesting plot that stands out is York new which is the fan favorite not surprisingly

If he at least gave her more panel time after she got resurrected instead of just putting her to the side, this really left a bad taste in my mouth and makes Gon's rage less impactful.

Yeah I agree, but maybe it's cause I've been burned many times by stuff like this in the past (not in HxH). I feel there's not even a reason for him to be back aside from just talking to Koala and Gon, obviously we haven't seen the entire plot yet, probably never will with all the HxHiatuses. Though I have a feeling that after the Dark Continent Arc we will have a Killua and Gon arc that links them up with Kite and then afterwards Kurapika and Leorio, before finishing the story in some CA Tier final arc. That's my hopes at least.
