Last time, Kanade's doubts continued to fester and it was to her surprise to see that she made it to the finals of the YAGP preliminaries, thus one step closer to New York and potentially earning a Royal Ballet scholarship from Abby. While Shouko also passed, Julia didn't make it leaving her to reflect on her own lack of competitive drive and effort compared to her two friends. Speaking of Abby, Kanade rejected imitating her dance and it was seeing Akito actually smile which seems to have led her to find her own take on Diana. Meanwhile Shouko vowed not to lose to Ema... who had no idea they were competing. Her own competitive drive getting the better of her, Shouko got worked up but as her turn came tried to settle down.
This time, was Shouko able to successfully get back on track? Will Kanade's Diana impress?
That was quite out of character from her father though, imo. The guy only recently started to get his attention on what his daughter was doing, and it's really unlikely he could have learnt how to understand and judge acting in a ballet's variation in barely a month.
Well, the entire thing with him and Shouko happened before the pizzicato performance even. He's had like a year to study this stuff and he seems like the kind of guy who goes all in on something as we'll see later.
So it looks like Kanade realized she can't truly understand Diana so the best thing to do would be to take what little she knew and adapt it to reflect her own goals.
This finishes up the chapter proper but there's still one more thing: a small omake that just fits wherever and just sort of sums up what the series is about.
That finishes up this chapter and another volume. Next chapter starts volume 9 where we'll find out who won, who's moving forward to New York and if Kanade was able to obtain that scholarship she was hunting.
