Nihei didnt give a shit about popularity and drew what he wanted to draw

I wonder if the sphere at the end was safe.

No daughter opinions to fuck things up

>Blame!
A dude who'd read scifi, had unusual art background, and the drive to put his vision on paper set out to do it.
>Blame! reprint
Nothing, the redrawn parts clash with the rest of the pages and it's missing the box. Higher quality is nice to have otherwise.

anybody reading aposimz, I'm really enjoying it, the briefness of the fights works really well

Attached: 1 (1).jpg (1124x1600, 598K)

you forgot to mention that the translation for the reprint is objectively worse than the viz one so if you're a physical fag you either have to put up with a worse translation and worse art or try to track down out of print viz copies.

Just read it in moon.

I think it finally get good.
Finally we have a main villain and a sense of direction.
>Viz
Did you mean tokyopop?
Also somewhat related, but viz just released abara.

he created some good shit off that not so well know novel feersum endjinn

dunno why he didnt base his work off banks novels like per example a manga about a player of games which travels around the universe could be cool.

Things are finally getting moving it feels like
>Shitty nii-san gets his fireball stand
>Ephraim got his shit kicked in
>AMB:s apparantly puncture the spacetime continuum
>The surface is going to start to go colder
>Staff chick commits to protecting those who will evacuate inwards

It only took two years but now maybe the story will be more than magical nihei girl monster of the week episodic stuff

Attached: 1540912754773.gif (500x500, 183K)

As sci-fi goes, this is one of the best story I have read.

Any other sci-fi manga recommendations?

>Spends several chapters building up a recurring antagonist
>Suddenly kills them off
>Then has to start all over again with a new antagonist to keep the plot going
I can't tell if Nihei is doing this deliberately or if he's just making shit up as he goes along.

Attached: 1541526886165.jpg (480x270, 24K)

Nihei's plots are always so fucking all over the place that its pretty clear he's never planned a story out start to finish.

He might have a general outline, but he definitely never plans details

Well, you could always re-read it.

Is it worth reading? I've been putting it off because honestly how the fuck am I going to wade through a third of it being written phonetically.

Yes. It's worth reading. You don't really even notice the phonetic parts after the 1st chapter because it's well made (though a bit of a british accent).

As far as Iain M. Banks works go, I liked this one more than most Culture novels. culture novels have a bit hard to like characters but the guy in this one is a nice protagonist. Also the setting is so weird you just wanna know more all the time.

One of my favourite ongoing manga. Unlike most it seems I've loved it since the oneshot. I personally like the white style, even though I did of course much prefer the darker and more detailed style of Blame. Then again I'll suck up anything Nihei, honestly. His universe is insanely good.

Tsutomu Nihei is a man of transcendent taste

Attached: 1520308244251.png (2147x3056, 2.24M)

>not realizing the Emperor was the antagonist all along
how's your 2 IQ points going user?

I'm reading it for the cute girl.

>the translation for the reprint is objectively worse
how is it 'objectively' worse
I think it sucks, but at least she got the book quote right - nobody else has

>how is it 'objectively' worse
>I think it sucks
why start an argument about meta bullshit autistically interpreting embellishments literally when you agree with him

I still can't decide who I love more, Jate or Titania?
Jate for her absolute loyalty towards her emperor
Titania for her absolute loyalty towards her etherow
However, Titania's constant efforts to protect her comrades and fight against the Emperor really makes the balance tip towards her

Attached: APOSIMZ Titania.png (1157x536, 543K)

>when you agree with him
I don't have an opinion on which translation is the best translation. I'm not arguing interpretation, either. I'm pointing out that the reprint got something right which had never been picked up before. Therefore where did it get things wrong so as to make it worse? What is herein the 'objective'? If the object is accuracy, then is it not arguable that all of the translations have points both towards and against them and therefore there is no 'objective best'?

stop

>tfw we'll never see anything like this from Nihei ever again

Attached: 1527138786660.png (4284x3056, 3.98M)

In Nihei's defense, his stories have never been about having one enemy over the whole run. Nihei's stories always have had several "villains" that have spawned along several arcs.

fucking sucks man, but it's also understandable how going for this style can be drained out of you due to time or just mentally because of how intense it is. Idk how his life was during Blame! but it feels like the condition of his soul was imparted on the artstyle+atmosphere.

don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened
And who knows, maybe he'll return to this style in the future. He's not dead yet.

Attached: blame_214_215.jpg (1300x1100, 269K)

Stop what? I'm saying it's stupid to make any claim without evidence. Say something like "this is objectively the worst" and provide evidence to support it? You're good. Say something like "this is objectively the worst" and refuse to provide evidence by subverting the conversation? You're a fucking idiot.

stop

I've just kind of been reading out of obligation. Maybe it gets more interesting later.

Attached: x1.png (1111x1600, 1.7M)

The amount of work to reach that level of detail in a drawing feels like something only a young man can do, doubt he goes back

I like Aposimz. I wish he redraw BLAME because that shit look dogshit

someone could make a videogame in the spirit of Zone of the Enders again so dont give up hope

>Shitty nii-san gets his fireball stand
do you think he'll stick by the Princess he gave birth to, or he will go rogue all alone? He didn't seem to feel much loyalty towards the frame that granted him his power, but maybe he'll become the Seu to her Mensab

>Aposimz
Has Aposimz gone full bonkers like the second half of Biomega yet?

I sure hope it does.

Attached: bm11.png (1629x1200, 144K)

Killy is a good papa

This, plus his magic at handling the magnitude of the scale was what resonated with the readers, even as soul-crushing as Killy's quest through an AU-long wasteland was.

>tags:
male: pregnant

yeah sounds like it to me

wait what

He let the first kid die in the first chapter

>moefag
do you even enjoy sci-fi?

Attached: Ningyou no Kuni - Chapter 22 - 25.jpg (1124x1600, 344K)

I like BLAME! because Nihei doesn't give a fuck about the readers.
>tfw you need to read 5 sci-fi novels to understand the ending

I feel like it's the opposite, he has the exact details of the shit he wants to include (hence the autistic occult science shit) but they always get in the way of the story's coherent sense
Like lesbian child Cibo mating with Sanaka might be cool as fuck, but I definitely don't think Nihei planned that when he first introduced her

>The love interest in Sidonia is the tallest gf
Fucking based
Haven't read Blame! yet, what novels are you meant to read beforehand?

You should read BLAME! without previous knowledge, the initial confusion is part of the experience.
Nihei was very inspired by some concepts on certain novels (so much that he didn't bother to explain them on the manga and just assumed everyone else has read those books), but you don't really NEED to read them before BLAME!.

None, he just doesn't explain jack so his inspirations could clue you in as to what in the fuck you just read.

>tfw you need to read 5 sci-fi novels to understand the ending
Is this a new meme?
The ending is really simple, what is there to understand?

Or you could just read the fucking notes/not be an idiot.

Or you could be posturing on an anonymous fucking imageboard.

blank stare cyborg waifus are my shit

Attached: blame_and_so_on-029crop.jpg (1121x630, 292K)

sanakan > whatever that fucking nerd was called

which Shibo is Best Shibo?

Attached: 1495605426523.jpg (1280x200, 163K)

>posturing
ok yeah
it's not that you are stupid; no, indeed, it's that this comic book requires a dual master in english and japanese literature

>Comics can't be intelligent because ????
Sounds american

Level 9 Safeguard fused Cibo
Also gets a bitchin Halo

Attached: 1429441456056.jpg (751x1100, 210K)

That was Cibo, AKA cyborg grill Jesus and you're wrong. Sanakan was just a plo5 device.

Where are you pulling that from? There are a few books you can read to better understand what he was inspired by and where some of his ideas originated from but none of them are necessary to understand the story. The only extraneous material is NOiSE, Blame!2, NSE and the author's notes.

Didn't Cibo only go with Sanakan because she thought the latter was Killy?

I didn't suddenly turn dumber when I picked it up, it's just sparse on exposition. I'm sure you never noticed that, you just that smart after all.

A cute plot device.

He didn't exposition dump everything and end up over-explaining the current idea and setting to death.
He really hit that hard in APOSIMZ. Sidonia starts to show the early signs of it.
BLAME! had the inklings of being a little too minimalistic at times (especially when you were trying to figure who or what the fuck was going on in certain scenes, like Cibo being reborn as the egg-carrying lifeform), but that's a lot better than telling the readers too much so that it becomes boring or annoying.

this

reminder that you people are the reason that Nihei never made anything good after Abara, and that Ningyou no Kuni: Aposimz happened

"When I finished Blame, my parents and friends told me they didn't understand anything. So I tried to make something simpler with Biomega. When I showed them they said they didn't understand anything again. So I made Sidonia, and when I showed them they said "yeah, it's a bit more clear, but I didn't really understand well."

Where are you guys reading it? Can't find #24 and 25

>tfw love scenery and art that shows off scale, so much that I'd sometimes just spend hours a day browsing and saving those kinds of images and content
>and then discover Blame!

>pool:1886

Attached: 1531837123967.jpg (1280x720, 181K)

yes, yes, you're very cool
now shut it

Blame! is tight as fuck yo. The artwork conceptually is amazing. Sanakan is my computer wife.

Attached: 489d5b09f75b8b16c333ce8ffe59d21d.jpg (591x837, 198K)

I'm sure liked SciFi way before you. I just don't like his BLAME! era drawing skill. His rendering skills are okay as expected of people with architecture background

sorry brother but I have to prescribe you with a terminal case of shit taste

Attached: killy.jpg (753x530, 96K)

His old style Sanakan resembles Misaki from NHK.

can't remember the first one

Pre-explosion.

It actually ended.
Killy won.
Fanatic art and a unique enough idea.

>"When I finished Blame, my parents and friends told me they didn't understand anything. So I tried to make something simpler with Biomega. When I showed them they said they didn't understand anything again. So I made Sidonia, and when I showed them they said "yeah, it's a bit more clear, but I didn't really understand well."
one of the most depressing quotes of all time

what explosion?
refresh my memory, it's been a long time since I read Blame

Poor fucking guy, his family are too retarded to just tell him it's good.

Cool, GANTZ!

>pic
Yep, that's >mfw alright
Thanks

the tall ones, i fucking love tall girls.

Where's the ink?

You're welcome user!
>tfw almost 2000 hand picked favorites on my hard drive now, after all this time

Attached: 59379929_p0.jpg (659x900, 547K)

It's the original Cibo, the one in charge of that experiment that tried to access the Netsphere by unconventional means but ultimately failed and caused a massive explosion in the city.

Nihei's relatives and friends are just brainlets, it seems.

This one feels pretty Blame! except bright.

I'm now remembering the art dump threads on Yea Forums from a long time ago. Wonder where those anons are now.

Attached: 50229197_p0.jpg (3307x4677, 3.4M)

I love Nihei but his character designs are so bad, I could barely tell anyone apart in Sidonia. I still loved Sidonia though and MC choosing the monster girl was the best decision he could possibly make.

Name?

The artist? Try using saucenao or iqdb. The image filename also indicates that it's a pixiv image, so what you can do is go to an image, say pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=47123139 and then replace the last string of digits with the one from the filename.

Attached: 53128574_p0.jpg (714x1200, 198K)

Talented writer, artist. So basically everything.

I...am buying it

I'm guessing he's going to be a third party in the Ephraim/Emperor conflict. He has a grudge against both.

Though I hope the next plot development is Ephraim focusing on saving the people who need to move inwards.

Attached: 34159651_p0.jpg (2583x1834, 3.48M)

That's a new kind of spoonfeeding.

Attached: 1492962878792.jpg (676x484, 107K)

Something something quote about giving a man pleasure with a fish versus teaching him how to pleasure himself with the fish.

Attached: 1423506830535.jpg (1300x913, 910K)

That looks more like a favela.
>tfw you will never live in a Nihei-designed favela
Why even live?

>tfw no Nihei-designed everything
I'd love to see Nihei spins on all sorts of styles.

Film Killy is literally a cyberpunk cowboy.

i will destroy mentally and physically.

PS/2 port, best port.

I thought saucenao and iqdb only worked for porn

looks so much better than netflix

>I am a lazy slug who can't think for myself

Just finished reading Gantz, still reading Attack on Titan.
Interested in reading this and Are they similar to what I've read so far?
I'm into politicaly incorrect, and Gantz and the recent chapters of Titan blew me out of the water, leaving me craving for more

Still blows me away to this day.

Attached: lIlkUl0.jpg (1456x1061, 211K)

Most of the early Blame! arcs have the same basic structure as cowboy movies though
>lone wanderer walks into town troubled by bandits/oppressive leaders
>lone wanderer shoots up the place

Just replace bandits with safeguard/silicon life really.

Why didn't Killy just build a spaceship and leave?

>and leave
To where?

Because he searches for net terminal genes.

Exo Suit Cibo

youtube.com/watch?v=JRBa2oS3PM4

I personally read BLAME! relatively late in my life (around 2014 maybe? it was after I started KoS and it was almost finished by then) so I already knew all the concepts he used. I've read a shit ton of sci-fi novels in my teens, and seeing how Nihei illustrated those concepts I'd only ever seen in prose made me love his work so much more. He has a very unique and amazing skill at illustrating in an intuituve way those concepts, like for example the retina HUD.
Nihei's work is really interesting to me because I feel like it's the only mangas where such high sci-fi concepts are illustrated in a natural way. His vision is something that crystallizes every good thing in the Western vision of science-fiction.
If you want to read a good novel with some of Nihei's concepts, I suggest you Peter F. Hamilton's "Pandora" cycle. It's a modern series, but I firmly believe it's a classic. In the same way that Nihei synthesized a lot of high concepts in manga, Hamilton did the same in novels.

Attached: Blame_v03_c016_p112.jpg (701x1100, 128K)

I think alt-Cibo was the most confusing thing in the whole story, for me.

And yet, AND YET Blame! is his most cherished, most acclaimed, most popular and most sold manga.
He is stupid if he listens to his retarded family and friends, when everything and everyone points to the complete opposite of what they say. Stupid fucks are holding his potential down.
[Henry Ford quote here]

Attached: 1501687948538.jpg (500x513, 173K)

shut the fuck up and die you apeshit boomer grognoids

Maybe he should study story telling instead of DUMBING IT DOWN

Yeah, but will he stay with his Guardian Angel? whatever happened to her? we didn't see her last chapter, did she die after giving him his power? I'm really curious! I loved her design

I think he should learn to ignore other people, though I think his decisions are more based on economics rather than ideology and I can't really blame him for not wanting to being poor.

>he doesn't want to be a penniless artist who only lives for his craft
what a fucking pleb

God Aposimz is just so fucking bad I can't take it.

> Yea Forumsnons can't into high sci-fi concepts, callbacks and minimalism
why am I not surprised

Attached: Sanakan teacher.png (418x461, 484K)

It's just really, really bland.

You guys like Abara? It's my favorite. The art is some of Nihei's best, and it has a crazy sense of speed and power.

Attached: x17.png (2019x1400, 764K)

Stop it, Nihei, your Aposimz art sucks, you lost all charm of your art and story, which now very generic and bland.

Reading Abara was so weird to me. I did it an afternoon after having done my driving test (succesfully), which had left me pretty mentally exhausted (since I expected a failure). The whole story structure is like a fever dream already, and with my mental state shit just got super trippy.

Yeah, it's probably my favorite as far as art is concerned. That and Digimortal.

Some might see the brevity as a bad thing, but I love how quickly it all comes tumbling down.
