A lot of people dropped it during Chimera Ant arc.

Was slightly disappointed by the White Album fight. I dunno why particularly, I think my expectations may have been a bit too high. I had really expected them to at least keep up a blizzard like wind the background too, so a bunch of scenes just looked really empty and tame.

Diavolo stuff was great though, and probably where most of their attention went. They managed to make it really unsettling, like they did with Black Sabbath. Overall enjoying part 5 a lot more than I expected to.

Kurapika himself differentiates between the strain and the life span condition, go read the chapter when he faints on the boat, he says that he added the condition himself and he's surprised by the fact that the strain is still as taxing as always even after placing the new condition, which undoubtedly proves that he didn't have it before. Instead of the election Arc Leorio and Killua could have went on some adventure together to find a cure. Leorio and Killua could have even learned it to appreciate each other and deepen their character development....

YYH was Yusuke's story. HunterxHunter is Togashi having fun with his ideas for interesting scenarios for conflicts, so every character is relatively simple, but a bit more nuancrd.

Chain jail vs steal chain has nothing to do with anything, pic related is the proof Kurapika didn't have the life span condition early in the story, I have to post it or else you'll just keep acting dumb forever. All this should end here and all the part about Izunavi is irrelevant but I'll address it anyway because you're something else. Izunavi is making two points. First one about fighting an enhancer as a conjurer, telling Kurapika he'd lose. Yes he says that you can go over your 100% but not starting from 60% as you're claiming, he's talking about the complexity of nen in general at that point and clearly going beyond your 100% refers to your natural category, not about that particular example where Kurapika is at 60%, he's not saying that with emotions you can go from 60 to 100. And that's not the mechanism behind ET, as a matter of fact, next Kurapika asks him if he can defeat an enhancer as a conjurer because they both understand that using enhancement is not an option, even when factoring in the emotional boost, since it doesn't provide a consistent power. And that's when conditions are brought in, it's not about enhancement anymore. He doesn't mention conjuation, and Kurapika actually has to bring it up to move the conversation to it. Then you have Kurapika showing that he actually did manage to temporarily replicate most of the benefits of 100% enhancement, and more, through ET. It's literally that simple. The flashback is there to explain ET, and how Kurapika got there. It plainly states the level of cost for even just managing a fraction of the actual ability.

The cost was stated to be per minute, and not with a buffer time where it doesn't cost him. It's clear that it would have to be shaving life even back in the yorkshin power set with the periods of time he used it for. It's just far worse because of how dangerous Steal Chain's lock in is when mixed with it.

I wasn't even focusing on the chains since he's clearly talking about the condition on ET given that the physical strain is related to that. Putting a condition on the new ability that locks him into ET doesn't change the fact that you will always feel the same backlash for using ET, no reason to expect something different, since the condition is not for ET but for the new ability. Putting a condition for ET itself is another thing, in this case it makes sense that he'd expect the strain to be lighter.

Yes Izunavi mentions conjuration when talking about conditions, they are talking about conditions that can make chains almost unbreakable, they disregard enhancement because it would be inefficient to use them on a category with low affinity. All this is before they find out about scarlet eyes and specialization, so it was not a way to achieve 100% enhancement, that's done thanks to Kurta genes and specialization.

There are two new conditions we're presented with, you're acting like it's given that the life span one was already there since the beginning and so he must be talking about the one on steal chain. That's headcanon. Starting from a unbiased perspective, when we don't know when he placed the condition, what makes sense is that he's talking about the life span condition since that's the one that affects ET directly, the one on steal chain does not affect ET directly and as a consequence he has no reason to expect to experience less stress.

You know, when I come into a Hunter x Hunter thread there's a lot that crosses my mind. The legacy of the greatest shounen ever written. I mean consider that for a minute. This amazingly well written and extremely complex piece of literature has been going on for several decades now and is still going. Not only that but it is still popular, still gaining new fans and keeping old ones happily around.

Hunter x Hunter is not just a manga, its not just genre deconstructing, its not just one of the greatest stories ever told. It is proof that man can achieve greatness in all its meanings. The story we have been discussing, months on end, years on end, it is evidence of a true understanding of nuanced and complex themes. A culture within itself.

So when I come into a Hunter x Hunter thread I feel like im not only here with my fellow Hunterchads. I am here with everyone else, experiencing the magic that is HxH. Even the poor and misguided who either havnt read it or consider it sub-par are here with us. Giving attention and time to a story that is older then most of us here today.

I see great discussion day after day. New points being brought up and old ones being held high for the board to see. It was through years of dedicated posting that these threads have gotten to this point. Intense and amazing discussion backed by some of the most quality memes found on the internet. Hunter x Hunter is a gateway anime of the worst kind. It's a bad series, a clusterfuck of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive complexity and DARKNESS. The normal user can see this as the shit it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the series itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad.

However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable underageb& faggots who engage in every kind of shitposting both in their own threads and in the rest of Yea Forums. The superpowered characters all asspulling their hardest to cheat death, the stand-like nen abilities, peculiar, colorful clothes, the whole Pitou faggotry and everything about the Hunter world fuels their escapist fantasies, while the chapter-long infodumps, lack of emphasis on art, and overall edginess of the series make it fit just right with the pseudo-intellectual drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. HxH is not a brainlet friendly manga, you need a high IQ to follow the complexity of the plotting, dialogue and themes. For example here Oito uses her telepathetic powers by manipulating a cockroach to spy on nearby princes' living quarters. Other mangaka would skip forward to the cockroach gathering intel on the enemy wihout further analysing the situation. Instead, here Togashi is always one step ahead in his critical thinking. He realizes that Oito (while having her consciousness sealed inside an insect) should stray inside the air ducts before even arriving at the enemy's quarters. So he makes her trace the layout of the floor's duct system with her finger, emphasizing if she wanders off even for a moment, she won't be able to find her way back anymore.

That's an underrated quality in Togashi's writings that low IQ readers can't parse. It separates him from the drivel in Shounen Jump who think writing one line of thought makes them (or their character) intelligent, without verifying if there's actually no loopholes in their seemingly flawless logic. To attain a quality like this and weave it so effortlessly into your own writing speaks a ton about Togashi's real world experience and attentive mind.

I was starting from a unbiased point of view before we even analyzed that page, when you read it you understand that he didn't have the condition before but you were the one going in before that already assuming he always had it. Before that page we have no proof, so you can't jump in already disregarding either option, which is what you did. After reading that page we know for sure, that's why my point stands.

The basis is basic understanding of phrasing and storytelling, first Kurapika asks about enhancement, so Izunavi has to show him why it's not possible, he can't just tell him to forget about it without an explanation. The flashback is used as a mean to let us in the depths of nen, it's not just an explanation for ET, which is mentioned only later in the flashback and it's something that happens purely by luck because of the scarlet eyes. All else is already been proved with what I said earlier and Kurapika applies the conditions on chain jail surely enough, his key ability is indeed a conjuration one, he didn't apply the teachings of Izunavi for enhancement and that proves my point even more.

Ok I agree with everything except the Hunter Exam, it was totally generic shonen crap, not counting Hisoka of course. It strayed away from the archetype only in the sinister tone and things implied between the lines, but all in all it was still generic.

The challenges of the exam were far from generic. It's not as in, say, Chuunin Exam arc of Naruto, where you had one on one battles, a tradition that Dragon Ball started.
Not to mention the last part of the exam isn't even seen since Gon passes out and he gets told what happened through a short flashback. If that's not the opposite of generic in an exam arc, I don't know what is.

So in a fight he's going to be constrained by however much pressure his opponent can place on him. If he's in a situation where he can calmly write out a haiku it's no different than if he's already gotten the upperhand on his opponent.
