I don't think Eren's going down Grisha's path at all, to be perfectly honest. He's going on in a direction that is complete opposed to Zeke but it appears to me that both sons are definitely distancing themselves from their father, even though they're doing so in fundamentally different ways. The endgame for Eren will definitely be to succeed where his father failed and put an end to this twisted history so that whoever comes after him (next generation/his kid(?) ), doesn't have to. It also falls in line with the speech Sasha's dad made in 111 and the overall theme of being born free into this world, having a place within it etc. which Zeke's ideology is the perfect antithesis to.

Not at all, Historia already rejected the royal ideology back then so she'd never be paralleled with Frieda like that. Isayama isn't all that amazing with character development outside a few exceptions but he has been an absolute genius at setting the main recurring theme and that is the dichotomy between the side that seeks freedom at the cost of peace and the side that wants peace at the cost of freedom. Historia has been on the freedom side since Uprising, i.e. wanting to inform the populace of the whole truth instead of hiding it (like Eren already said, ignorance is farthest from being free), the ones who will be against Eren are Zeke and possibly Armin.
Reiner will be relevant too but he's not a stand-in for the 145th king by any means.

Except Eren and Grisha's goals align. Grisha picked Eren as his successor because he's figured the most important thing ('I am free') unlike Zeke who cut ties with his father and thus believe Eren walked the same path than him.

If else, that cover shows the influence the AT has on Eren to get his shit together and pursue his ideals. One of the things that has clearly been established when he met with MAG is that, even though indeed Mikasa is slave to her own curse, Mikasa has been doing this because she does care about Eren. While she cannot avoid to act to protect or help Eren, she does so because she also cares about him. On previous crisises, she has been there for him as a support when he has been doubting himself. That's not the work of whatever titan force helps her to get in battle, that's her character trying to help Eren get his shit together on a hard situation because she cares about somebody who has been with her for pretty much all her life.

Eren doesn't care about the Eldia Empire. He is not possessed, you gain memories but you are the one who decides what to do with it.

The train scene happened he was 18. The encounter with Yelena marked his departure to Marley, where he probably turned 19.

Over that time, a lot of things happened. Starting from his decepction at meeting the ocean and knowing there were more enemies across it, we have:

1. Eren standing for Historia, as he would do for any other friend, on a measure he valued as too rushed.

2. Eren expecting good things to come from the initial contact with Hizuru and the further contacts Hizuru could get to get Paradis some allies

3. The failure on doing point 2, which leads him to wonder how can they defend the island without allies.

4. The pressure behind knowing only 5 years he has left to resolve everything if he wants to avoid to pass his titan to one of his friends. And, along that line, 5 years to avoid that Historia may get fed with Zeke.

5. The talking with Yelena that somehow changed something on his perception on the island's matter and the general status of everything

6. The months he experienced in Marley as an undercover agent

7. The attack on Liberio and even the death of Sasha, that shows him his failure to provide protection to all his friends.

There is A LOT of things that can make you change on that time and you would be dead wrong to assume that Eren cannot mature out of that. Let alone the fact that I left aside all the shit he had to cope with up until RtS (Losing her mother, losing comrades and friends, etc etc etc).
