But isekai slavery is nothing like real life slavery. It's based on magic and absolutely obedience, so you can have all of the "benefits" of slavery with none of the downsides.

There was nothing seen as morally good, it was done out of necessity for him. Good things happened because of the things he did outside of it. He gave her medicine to stop her from dying, he treated her very well and fed her, gave her skills that are in high demand, gave her purpose.

That said the series gets crazier with slavery later, he ends up buying assloads of slaves and builds a town. He is never the evil overlord, but man that arc if it ever gets adapted is really going to get people's knickers in a bunch. My favorite part is where he captures a bunch of slavers trying to steal his citizins, he sells them as slaves to siltvelt who enslave humans.

My only problem is when they still try to make the MC seem like some half decent guy when he pulls shit like that

That actually sounds fairly similar to what happens in Hisshou Dungeon Unei Houhou, but I might be mixing up the stories of the founder hero (who AFAIK was not an isekai'd individual) with one other isekai'd individual that tried to introduce Democracy, which ended in failure. In the end the Demon Army does invade or something, but the kingdom founder and the other isekai'd invidiual are already dead by that point I think. Well, it's been a while since I read that and I might have gotten a lot wrong, but yea, it's quite similar either way.

In the end, all an average slave wants is a good master. It's their ideal life. When they have a bad master they don't dream of not being a slave, they dream of having a good master.

While there is an issue with morality, my main problem with slavery in isekai is that it’s just a plot device.

Think about it. If the alternate world the MC enters has magic, which makes labor less intensive, why even need slaves in the first place? Sure, some series say that they’re POWs or former criminals or people who have outstanding debt, but those open even more problems that are never answered by the author.

The issue with isekai slavery is that it’s an easy way to give the MC a cute waifu who is sworn to follow his every whim without actually putting any effort into it. Instead of the MC getting girls to flock around him by being a good person, it suggests that the only reason they’re around him in the first place was because he paid for them. There are thousands of better ways to make a self-insert become more appealing to women, but just purchasing them is not one.
