Mugen, goes without saying. His personality and design where so legendary they're ripping him off to this day.
You don't even need to have a story, all you need is a magnet character like him and voila, you have a franchise. People will watch it and buy it just for him because that's how good a strong and impressionable character sells. Jin is a common schmoe and you will not see him drawing audiences and money in like one Mugen.

I think he was the first of that personality type merged with that hairstyle. You could go saying the hairstyle is similar to Spike's, but it's still fundamentally different (less fuzzy, more wild) and so is the entire feeling of the character. There's plenty characters that have a personality like him earlier in manga, but I don't know of any that had that hairstyle and that specific touch that he has.
He was even ripped off in Index II.

Remember that assassin who almost beat him by luring him to a bamboo forest? Jin's performance depends too much on the surroundings. A strong enemy who fights dirty would certainly cause him trouble. On the other hand, he defeated a guy with a gun once, and he's not dumb, he knows when to run. He'd probably run from them, the crazy little dude would chase him, he'd kill him, use his speed to kill scythe. Then would be easy to kill or avoid wheelchair man.

Not in a million years. The only things mugen has in his favor are his erratic fighting style and playing dirty. None of them would work on kariya.
