Reading the first chapter again and it seems like they basically made a contract, just like the hunters in general do. I wouldn't be surprised if those contracts are absolute, just seems like a very shounen thing that would make the story more interesting.
So yeah I don't think Pochita is evil unless the "show me your dreams" part gets twisted in some way.

It's actually surprising how ambiguous the year the story takes place in is. There haven't been any cellphones or other modern technology, and the clothing has mostly been timeless business suits. It could be anywhere from 1950-1990. The only timed thing I saw so far is a corn-dog, which was introduced to the US in 1942. The only thing that doesn't fit an earlier setting is the culture, as everyone in the story is oddly feminist and is treating female demon hunters and bosses as unimpressive.

Power is manipulative and tricky but in the end is shown to develop actual humanity.
Makima seems nice and all but no fucking way in hell she ain't rotten to the core and ten times more manipulative than Power.
Denji really should understand who to stick with unless he wants to get thrown under a bus.

So I guess this sets up Denji's character development to be becoming less shallow and care about Power instead of manipulative bitch Makima.
