Am I the only person who actually likes isekai?

I often forget Konosuba is isekai. It has nothing to do with it beyond Aqua getting stuck with Kazuma, which could be easily justified some other way. This is why isekai has become a garbage dump of a genre. In old isekai the protagonist's original world would play a key role in the story, but now it's an unnecessary detail slapped on for self-insertion purposes. Konosuba is still a great anime, but it wouldn't suffer in the slightest by removing the detail that Kazuma came from a different world. Tanya was a surprisingly good recent one that involved it, with the conflict between god and the salaryman taking center place. The new world felt reasonably detached due to it all playing out like a competition between two otherworldly entities.

Kazuma seems different because he actually wants to return home quite a bit, reverse engineers useful Jap shit and likes Japan, but that's a small detail.

Isekai would work better if it wasn't just a template for unoriginal harems. A load of Japs wrote an LN about a guy with some exotic schoolgirls, then re-wrote the "new school" into a "new world". Real creativity is lost when your premise is just a cut corner.

I think certain series make it work, hell even in Shield Hero the fact that the world looks like a game adds something, but most of the time that "easy way out" is actively making it worse because they don't do anything with it.

Kemono Michi is alright. Basic summary: Slice of life series about a pro wrestler who gets summoned to another world by a princess who wants him to slay magical creatures and kill the demon king. Wrestler is a borderline zoophiliac so that pisses him off so he body slams the princess and flees to open up a pet store and introduce the concept of keeping magical creatures as pets. Cute girls and no vidya mechanics although the humor is kind of hit or miss
