The biggest issue I see is that even in XCOM 2, gameplay is methodical with an emphasis on cover use, and while A-1 has done action before, I don't know if they'd really be good a doing Rookies hiding behind a mailbox missing shots from five feet away.
And if you don't adapt that, you're not really adapting XCOM at all.
