I haven't watched the anime past the war arc,

Dressrosa was definitely worst arc for me. Reading it week to week with constant nobodies, weak fights, horrible enemies besides the invincible Doflamingo, and even he had the whole stupid bird cage shit.

Couldn't even bring myself to read through it again like I usually do when an arcs finished.

When you put The OP world in a realistic setting it makes sense that the strongest would have massive haki and a DF.

I think it's reasonable to get bored of the mundane when you work on something with the vigor of Oda.

It's neither. As far as story telling goes, Oda's still faithfully Oda. What Oda has been doing is progressively packing more chapters, more panels, more characters and more flashbacks into his arcs - and it becomes exhausting, we get burnt out.

Imagine if you have a favourite song, but for some reason its volume gets turned up a notch every time you listen to it - it's the same song, all the bits you love are there, but you're now drained by the end of it

I can give you three - Davy Back Fight, Punk Hazard, and Sanji's Wedding

It did used to be true. Purposely. But there are many key turning points where the quality's been shooting up, and this is because of how Oda sets up the series to matter more the longer it goes. One is Zou, we got the tightness of quality back there, as well as excellent worldbuilding on several levels, and the arc structure wasn't the typical formula. Another is when Pedro died, from then on Whole Cake Island started getting really intense, and we've had the most back to back hopeless situations in the series except Sabaody as well as an amazing fight, and again an unusual arc structure that didn't fit the formula. Reverie was a post-arc type of arc on steroids, jumping the quality again in just 5 chapters. Wano started off slow with a mini-adventure to cool off, but ever since Kaido's appearance it's been a nice variety of interesting stuff, and again major and unexpected reveals.

The main reason One Piece isn't a 10/10 right now is because the tightness isn't there anymore, Oda kind of lets things just freeflow, but I'd put it at a 9.5/10 right now when it started at a 6/10 at Fishman Island. It will easily be a 10+ at Onigashima.

Davy Back is a top 3 arc.

Dressrosa is absolute dogshit and by far the lowest point in the series

I didn't like it that much weekly, but on re-reading it I'd give it a 7.5, even with Birdcage being overpowered.

Forgot to mention, the one thing Post TS does better is the art, early One Piece looked kind of iffy: the characters were a bit rough and the backgrounds were not as detailed.
and that is up to and not limited to Alabasta.
It has looked gorgeous for a while, but it's not like it was webcomic tier, and Oda still was great at blocking and storyboarding...
also he started getting better already a long time before the time skip, so it's not like there is this clear divide, but all things considered, PostTS has it

I guess a big part of it are people like me that miss the easy going comedy adventure parts too much, those became rare and feel rushed with the exeption of punk hazard.

Dressrosa made me drop the series after having read One Piece for like 15 years straight. Reason? It was an insult to my favourite character, and at that point, the only character left whom I even liked or cared about. It was shit arc unworthy of Doflamingo. Not even the very strong backstory could make up for it.

The only one I see as a straight downgrade is Kung Fu point. The rest are actually better, like his reindeer form, or just sidegrades, guard is just a bigger version, heavy looks fine, especially in the manga, horn I can see people disliking personally I'm fine with it, monster its normal it lacks the impact it had when he used it the first time, you've seen it before and he's in control, because visually it looks very similar, plus it can still look cool/scary if Oda wants just look at Chopper trying to fight BM when he was chasing them.

Week to week feels like a shore because of all the setup that Oda likes making. I find it incredible the amount of restrain as a creator you need to have to build up a narrative like that.
